Why Marcie Nowack chose Enchanted Lake
I love being on the lake and having a view! To be able to paddle to the beach from my home is awesome!

Thank you, Marcie, for an incredible stay! We loved having a place to get away from it all, and enjoyed the quiet, clean environment you have created. Thank you for your attention to detail and excellent communication, especially during unexpected inclement weather and making sure we were taken care of.
Disappointed, not what we expected
We were disappointed the description did not adequately portray the accommodations. This is a room in the owner's house. Granted there is no interior access to the home but we felt awkward staying in this room. One can see the former door, now closed off, behind the refrigerator. We have booked other "studio" accommodations through VRBO and have never stayed in a space that was encompassed in the owner's home.
At the time I booked this accommodation, the April 2019 review had not yet posted. This review describes "the studio is actually attached to the main house". Had I read this, I would not have booked this accommodation.
While others were comfortable with the level of privacy, we were not. Privacy consists of heavy curtains in front of the sliding glass doors which provide exterior access along the side of the house. It is not realistic to have these heavy curtains closed during the day. In addition, the bathroom window is adjacent to the front door of the home. Yes, these are frosted glass windows but in our opinion awkward.
We paid for 3 nights but left after 2 because we were uncomfortable. On the second day, we heard someone opening and closing the gate that accesses our side of the house. This occurred several times in a row. It was during the day and not a safety concern. It is a safe neighborhood. But, again a privacy concern. We thought someone would walk around the corner any minute. We never saw anyone, just heard the gate opening and closing. We also felt we could not enjoy the backyard overlooking the lake. We felt as if we were being watched. There is another rental upstairs, that over looks the backyard. The back of the home is mostly glass, looking onto the backyard. Again, obviously does not concern others.
That said, the property is beautiful and clean. It has numerous positive reviews, so what made us feel uncomfortable, does not bother others.
My suggestion is why not provide a completely thorough description of the accommodation rather than risk a dissatisfied guest.
Minor cons: as others have pointed out, the kitchenette and bathroom are a shared space. There is one sink between the two and there are bi-fold doors (which provide very little privacy) between the toilet/shower and sink/kitchenette areas. One of the windows was broken, held open with a plastic cup. The A/C takes a while to cool, the Hawaiian sun really heats up the room. The owner requests that it be turned off when not in the room, not unreasonable.
There are very few rentals in Kailua that are separate dwelling units (and not at my price!). I am very sorry you were not satisfied with the accommodations. Maybe you did not have the gate closed tight because no one else goes thru the Studio gate. The patio is private. I am so glad you enjoyed the yard and the paddle boarding as the weather was so gorgeous while you were here.
A HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTESS
Kailua is a great base for exploring by car all of Oahu and Marcie's studio bungalow is a perfect out of the way location to do so. The surrounding lake and suburban property still gives a sense of seclusion and is only a short ride to town and beach.
Marcie also bailed us out when our room key was lost. A hostess with the mostess was much appreciated.
I was here for work. This really met my needs. It is so peaceful here, it felt like coming home at the end of the day.
Studio in a quiet neighbourhood with a welcoming host and a stunning view
The studio was small, although clean and functional with basic equipment. The host lives in a quiet neighbourhood with easy access to beaches, markets, restaurants, etc. The studio in actually attached to the main house and the yard is shared but chairs and table are on one side for more privacy. We especially appreciated having our breakfast or dinner outside with the stunning lake view. We also used the kayaks on our second day to go to Kailua Beach and it was amazing! Marcie was a great host: she always made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Mahalo Marcie!
Clean & nice area
We enjoyed our stay. Nice area and safe neighborhood. If you stay here you will need a rental car. But you will want one to tour the island anyway. We had a private little porch area. Garden was small but beautiful with nice views.
Marcie had all the basics needed such as microwave, refrigerator, few dishes, pots to make simple meals. I would recommend this studio apartment.
