300 Year Old Chalet Interlaken
Got a different unit than the one advertised, not a good experience for our family
We had realistic expectations about what it would be like to stay in a 300-year old Swiss chalet, but ultimately we were still disappointed.
The biggest issue is that we were assigned to a different unit than the one advertised in the VRBO listing. The listing indicates sleeping for 8, and indeed the upstairs unit in the chalet does have sleeping for 8 and all the VRBO interior photos are from that unit. However, we were assigned to the downstairs unit which only has sleeping for 6 -- which was a major problem for a family of 7 with 5 teenage children. We felt like this was false advertising and it made for awkward sleeping arrangements and tight living conditions. Be sure that you know which unit you are getting when you make the reservation!
The kitchen was reasonably modern although the refrigerator was just outside the front door, and the bathroom was also modern and updated. As might be expected from an old house, some of the door frames are low and tall people need to be very cautious. There were a couple of couches and a dining table, but these were crammed in to a relatively small living and dining area so it was not that comfortable as a gathering place.
The town of Saxeten is very quiet and the narrow access road can be a little harrowing when cars come in the other direction, but the location is beautiful and not too far from Interlaken. There are a couple of nice restaurants just up the road from the chalet. Our host was not there in person, but he was responsive to our text messages with questions. I'm sure that our experience would have been better if we had been assigned to the unit that was advertised, but based on our experience, we would not recommend this to others.
