About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

'The English speaking owners are a pleasure to deal with, and seem to have thought of everything.'--Fodor's Paris 2011

Imagine enjoying your own private retreat in the heart of Paris--a place you can relax after every thrilling, but exhausting day of visiting museums and palaces, of strolling along grand boulevards and threading through medieval passageways, and of indulging in too much shopping and eating. Envision a place with no grumpy desk clerk or housekeepers who wake you up too early.

At nearly 51 square meters, the apartment is spacious by Parisian standards and can comfortably accommodate up to four adult guests. A fine collection of original Art Deco furniture and accessories from the 1920s and 1930s is supplemented with modern upholstered pieces, bedding and hi-tech appliances. The walls are decorated with a growing collection of original early- to mid-20th century oil paintings of Paris landmarks. A private balcony, stretching along the full width of the apartment, is an ideal spot for people-watching, enjoying a simple meal, reading a book in the sunshine or sipping a flute of champagne before dinner.

The sun-filled living room is a welcoming spot for relaxation or entertaining. It accommodates a generously-sized seating area, a dining area and a fully-equipped computer work area. A laptop computer is provided, and guests are welcome to bring their own computer for use with our unlimited WiFi. A WiFi color printer/copier/scanner/fax is also available. Rainy days are made more tolerable with HD TV, pay-per-view videos and video gaming.

The apartment's private spaces show equal attention to elegance and convenience. The bedroom, larger than most Parisian hotel rooms and furnished with the finest quality bedding, is a restful spot to gaze out over the rooftops and plan the day's adventures. Sophisticated Italian stone tiles, natural lighting and a glass-walled walk-in shower contribute to the calming spa-like atmosphere of the bathroom.

The large, professionally-designed kitchen is furnished with the latest, high-efficiency appliances to make cooking and cleaning a pleasure. The space easily accommodates the preparation of a gourmet meal as you watch the lights atop the Eiffel Tower trace a patch across the night sky. A dinner party for 8? No problem!

In addition to the apartment itself, we can also supply additional services that will make your stay in Paris truly memorable. Just about anything is possible with sufficient advance planning--private airport pick-up, gourmet treat or luxury bath baskets, dinner reservations, theatre tickets, weekly cleaning services, etc. We encourage you to let us know what you desire to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Living in our vacation apartment will allow you to discover a side of Paris you've never experienced before, even if you've been a frequent visitor. Set away from the most touristy areas, our neighborhood is a place where the Parisians you'll encounter every day are those who are on their way to work, escorting their children to school, relaxing in the park, or chatting with the merchant next door. You'll find them to be friendly, helpful and genuinely pleased to see you enjoying their neighborhood!

Why Doug Gaddis chose Paris Arr. 17 (Arc de Triomphe, Palais de Congres)

We purchased the apartment for our own personal use with the idea that we might rent it out occasionally--mostly during the summer months when we wouldn't be able to enjoy it. Since that first year, however, we've had such demand that we're rarely vacant more than three or four weeks a year. Many of our guests return year and year and have standing annual reservations. It has been a pleasure owning this apartment, but more importantly, it has been a pleasure making so many friends around the world who share our love for the apartment and for Paris.

What makes this apartment unique

Our friends always ask us what we did when we return from a stay in Paris. Often we look at each other and then shrug our shoulders. We just live daily life--selecting a type of produce we've never tried at the market, lingering over lunch, enjoying happy hour--all the little things we can't seem to find time to enjoy in our normal lives. We like rekindling friendships with the clerk at our favorite bakery, watching the old men play very serious games of petanque in the park, and reading the newspaper at a cafe and listening to everybody laugh about the latest scandal. We like prowling the weekend antiques markets and visiting our favorite dealers scattered around the city. Sometimes, we catch a train from one of the nearby train stations and spend a day in the countryside. In short, we've been visiting Paris three or four times a year since 2000, and we still haven't run out of things to do!

Great neighborhood and a perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Doug is an excellent contact for all things Paris! His kindness and willingness to share tips for travel in France are priceless. We referred again and again to his wonderful collection of impressions and recommendations during our stay. Paris is an overwhelming place to travel, so having an apartment with amenities like a large shower, washer, hairdryer, dishwasher, ironing board, and iron, etc. was really appreciated. We loved the neighborhood and being 'in the know,' thanks to Doug, regarding where to get a great morning croissant or the best baguette made our time very special. The apartment is lovely and close to metro stops, great restaurants, creperies, bakeries, fromageries, and great clothing stores as well.

Our visit to Paris was fabulous. We are so happy we chose this apartment. It was beautiful, clean and had everything we could possibly need. Your welcome book was so helpful and Lauren welcomed us warmly. We had plenty of space for our family of four and enjoyed some quiet evenings out on the terrace. We loved the bakery around the corner and found the location to be just perfect! Thank you!

UNSATISFACTORY STAY

  • 1 of 5

This was our second visit to the apartment. Previous visit two years ago was enjoyable. When we arrived on 12 May 2017, we were greeted by overwhelming paint fumes which apparently originated from recent renovations. It took a number of days to air out the fumes and make the apartment comfortable. The welcome book was completely in disarray apparently due to a rewrite which was in progress. The access to the TV channels was incorrectly indicated on a separate instruction sheet. These shortcomings were relayed immediately upon arrival to the company representative in Paris who assured us that he would notify parent company. No further communication was received from either party during our stay. Upon return to the USA, we notified the parent company on 20 May 2017 of our concerns and received a defensive explanation of the issues.

Owner's Response: Indeed, the kitchen and bathroom ceilings had been painted--two weeks before the guests arrival. According to our concierge one of the guests was observed coughing as he got out of the elevator--perhaps not related to paint fumes? Yes, the Welcome Book is being revised. That takes considerable time for a reference exceeding 200 pages. In the interim, we've provided an electronic copy of the newest version as it's being updated. That copy is on the desktop of the computer we provide in the apartment. As far as changing TV channels go--well anybody who's ever subscribed to cable TV understands that providers sometimes make unpredictable changes in channel locations, though all the premium English-language channels are still in the same place. The guests complained by phone about their welcome at the apartment, but failed to offer any excuse for their hour and a half delay that kept our concierge waiting (a simple phone call to the cell number they'd been provided in advance would have been appreciated.). These guests were problematic and complaining during their first stay two years ago. In fact, I'd notated their file as a "do not rent again." Unfortunately, I didn't follow my own advice--resulting in our very first review that wasn't five stars...

A gem of an apartment

  • 5 of 5

I had the opportunity to spend five glorious nights in Paris and was fortunate to have found by word of mouth a gem of an apartment in the 17th district and a a very reasonable price. The owners were very pleasant to deal with and their local management company was equally pleasant and accommodating; all of which helped to make our stay most enjoyable.

Of course, you are probably wondering what the apartment was like. I can sum it up this way by my friend who stayed with me. He said, "in all my years of travel and apartment rentals, this is by far the nicest place I have ever stayed." The apartment has all of the modern conveniences one would need and it is very nicely furnished and quite comfortable. It was a lot of fun to be in a local neighborhood and away from all the tourists; to enjoy local cuisine as the everyday French do.

The owners are extremely well organized as was evident by the binder left in the apartment which was very comprehensive: emergency telephone numbers; how to operate all of the appliances and the entertainment center; restaurant recommendations; taxi service;, etc. etc.; all of which is laid out in an easy to read binder. Bravo to the owners and management company for making our stay as pleasant as could be. I know that when I return to Paris I will definitely want to rent this apartment again.

Excellent Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was my fifth time to Paris and first time renting an apartment. The apartment was perfect, the location in the 17th Arr was close to all amenities, especially the Wine Bar around the corner! Our concierge Jake was very kind and helpful and was available to us at any time. I would recommend this Apartment for anyone who is looking for an adventurous romantic getaway. My Husband and I plan to stay here again in the future.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This well appointed, spacious apartment was far better than hotel! The owners provided meticulous information of everything from places to eat, shop, transportation and points of interests throughout Paris. The neighborhood was charming, and after a couple of days we totally felt completely oriented to the area, and access to trains was a snap! We look forward to future stays. Loved it.

Our neighborhood offers all the niceties of everyday Parisian living. The neighborhood itself is very quiet, but the late-night hubbub of the Place de Clichy is just four blocks away and nearly every tourist attraction in Paris is only 15-25 minutes away! Our 150 year-old local park includes a pond with rare waterfowl and fish, an antique carousel, and play areas. For antiques enthusiasts, we are conveniently close to both the famed Paris Flea Market and the Drouot auction district.
