Coal Point consists of a private peninsula, connected by a footbridge to a small island named after our eldest son. It has been a home-away-from-home for many international visitors over the years. I am trilingual (English, German and some French). I love sharing the natural beauty of this area with my guests, and all it has to offer. Our family is committed to preserving the natural beauty of this unique property for the next generation.
Cordelia Mcintosh purchased this cottage in 1958
Our cottage has been in the family for 3 generations. Visitors always remark on how special this property is. It has inspired both artists and writers. It is truly a refuge in every sense. We feel privileged to observe wildlife in its natural setting from our home on a daily basis. Seasonal changes attract different wildlife, and offer exceptional and varied viewing experiences year-round.
360 degree views. Steps from the beach. Exclusive access to private island. Hot tub overlooks the sights and sounds of beautiful Saanich Inlet. Listen to the seagulls call, the sea lions bark, the waves rolling into shore. Relax in the hammock under our grove of Oak trees. Storm watch during winter months. Snorkel/dive and enjoy abundant sea creatures. Spring herring run makes the ocean come alive with wildlife. Amazing sunsets. Tidal pools. Summer bioluminescence! A 'foodies' delight!...Enjoy visits to a local organic farm stand, winery or fresh fish market in Sidney. Close to amenities, ferry, airport. Near Lochside Trail and Galloping Goose cycle paths.
Dear McIntosh family,
Thank you again for your wonderful hospitality. I have lived in Canada for over 10 years, I have travelled from coast to coast; and yet I have never met anyone as loving and as hospitable as you. Your home is made up of a unique combination of beauty, love, warmth and hospitality. We always enjoy coming back here- It's our home, so far away from home. Thank you, and may God bless you like you bless us all the time.
The light and views from the cottage are hard to appreciate until you're there. At the tip of a small peninsula, there is water on three sides, so even on cloudy, grey days, the light streams in the large windows and saturates everything with warmth. The wildlife is amazing--seals, otters, flocks of jays, more. The cottage itself is very clean, the bed extremely comfortable, and the (newly updated) bathroom particularly wonderful. Cordelia and John are amazing hosts, and wonderful people, too. This is a remarkable place.
Coal Point cottage was just as described, if not better, and made for the perfect weekend getaway! We spent a relaxing two days doing very little except for watching the ever changing seas and skies from the couch, the armchair, the deck and even the bed. Cottage had everything you could need and the owners were the most obliging hosts -picking us up, taking us grocery shopping and then bringing us back to the ferry. We really feel we lucked out in finding this needle in the haystack of vacation rentals!
My Husband and I spent five wonderful days here and could not have been more pleased. As others have said Cordelia and John are amazing hosts. When I told Cordelia we were coming in by ferry she offered to pick us up and most days she had great advice on what to see and do and great dining recommendations. We truly enjoyed getting to know them.
The cabin was really comfortable and well equipped; the kitchen had everything we needed and we made a few of our meals here because we didn't want to miss any time hanging out on the deck, watching the boats pass, staring at the beautiful view and sunsets. Loved the remodeled bathroom with big tub and super deluxe shower. During our time we enjoyed seeing the raccoons, neighborhood deer, Heron and a seal and/or otter swimming by. The cabin is a great place to stay if you want peace and privacy but would like to be within driving distance to restaurants and other activities. It's not in the thick of things and thats what we loved about it.
In addition to all the island has to offer, there are many activities nearby. We found some nice hikes, roadside farms where you can pick up delicious produce and gourmet food products, a great place for cider tasting and a high end french restaurant.
We hope to return someday soon
Thank you to Cordelia and John for their wonderful hospitality at this most extraordinary getaway. We returned to Canada from the UK this year and stayed with various friends throughout our fortnight's holiday, travelling quite a bit. In the midst of this we treated ourselves to a two-day escape at Coal Point as we were desperate to return there. We were not disappointed. This is a perfect, unique slice of heaven. All we wanted to do was sit and stare at the view and enjoy the kayaks. There is lots to do if you have a little longer than we did. It's the perfect place whatever style of holiday you are after. The accommodation is luxury, the facilities fantastic and the bed is one of the most comfortable ever; very important for weary travellers! The view is unbeatable and Cordelia and John could not have been kinder. Cordelia even helped us solve our present-buying hunt for children with some recommendations for local books. We really hope to return again. It's the best place that we have ever stayed. Perfect! PS: If you go into Sidney, then we highly recommend breakfast at the Five & Dime Diner. Delicious!
The location of the cottage is fantastic, right on the point with wonderful uninterrupted views across the bay to Salt Spring. It is rustic and cosy, fully equipped and literally at the waters edge - you fall asleep to to lapping murmurs, and sitting in the hot tub at sunset is like being in heaven. There is wildlife all round - seals, eagles, herons and much more. It is extremely private, the owners house is just a few yards away but does not overlook.
Cordelia and John were kindness itself. They presented us with a $20 voucher for use in one of the Sidney restaurants and when we said we were considering taking a bus into Victoria, they insisted in driving us in and took us for a scenic tour round all the sights.
Despite the secluded nature of the cottage, it is only 5 minutes from the ferry terminal, 5 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes to Sidney which is a lovely little town.
To any prospective renters, the advice is don't waste time looking at any other properties, just book it!
A wonderful, cozy, spotlessly clean cabin in an absolutely gorgeous location. The property owners are onsite but not obtrusive, and offered daily suggestions for activities and local information. We really enjoyed the use of the two kayaks to explore the bay, and spent endless time admiring the view and watching the wildlife from the deck. We look forward to returning!
