Utterly Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Tree House was utterly amazing! The house was decorated for Christmas, which was such a nice touch. The house is awesome with beautiful furnishings, lots of windows and a gas fireplace that works on a timer. The kitchen had everything we needed. The young adults in our group enjoyed having their own space in the bunk house.

The lake to back was just starting to ice over so we got to see the process and our teenager had fun throwing rocks and watching (and listening to) them skim across the ice. The outdoor fire pit was wonderful with wooden and rock seating. When we used the wood that was provided, it was replenished the next day. The trails within Wild Rock are well marked and hold lots of adventure right here on the property.

We also hiked a portion of the Endless Wall Trail starting at the Fern Creek trailhead. It was awe-inspiring and we found a series of ladders that led us deeper into the gorge and to some beautiful caves.

We enjoyed a day of skiing and snowboarding at Winterplace Ski Resort and it was less than an hour's drive away.

I can't say enough good things about our vacation at the Tree House. It was sweet from start to finish!

Perfect property for the weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Tree House. Sarah was great to work with, and the property was enjoyable. We went white water rafting one day, and spent two nights at the house. We were a group of 10, and the house had plenty of room for all of us. It was comfortable, clean, and perfect for our group. We will definitely be back!

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for my family of 4 including a 16 and 14 year old, my parents in their 60s and my sister an her husband.

The house was well appointed with supplies. We've rented several times from VRBO, so knew we liked to have kitchen and laundry items. This home had plenty of amenities and a WalMart near by to get anything we needed. Property was very clean, towels and bedding were high quality.

Our weather was not great - kind of cold, but the hot tub was great. Would be great to get a map of the trails behind the home, we found our way around. Since we were there a bit early in the season, Adventures on the Gorge had limited hours and tours. We enjoyed zip lining. Too cold to raft.

Swinging bed on the porch was a great place for an afternoon nap after hiking all morning.

Long Pointe was a great hike. Sandwich Society in Fayetteville had a nice selection of yummy sandwiches - enough to split with someone. Soup was good too.

The Devil Is In The Details

  • 4 of 5

This is a gorgeous house in a wonderful location and was by most standards exactly what we were looking for. However, there was a handful of minor details that just seemed a bit careless. Again, these are fairly minor complaints that are easily correctable. I don't think anyone in our group would think twice about going back for another weekend get-away.

Most disappointing, the gas fireplace did not work, nor were there instructions provided that detailed its use. I believe that gas had been shut off externally and a simple note stating such would have saved a lot of time and frustration.

More problematic, the light by the hot tub did not work either. This created a dangerous situation at night when the stairs leading back to the house become slippery when wet. There are light switches galore and again there was no indication as to which switch controlled which light. We were able to mitigate this issue with some makeshift lanterns by placing flashlights in a few empty bottles.

The remote was not programmed to the BluRay player which was more annoying than anything. We were finally able to reprogram the remote to work after some Google-fu and some good old American determination.

The trail behind the house leaves something to be desired. There are other more invigorating hikes nearby. I would recommend if you are interested in more than just a 20-minute stroll you check those out.

Our primitive desire for fire not being met by the gas fireplace, on the second night we took the party outside. W were able to scavenge for enough usable wood for a fire that lasted about 2 hours, but a supply of firewood would have been a nice touch.

Owner's Response: As the property manager of the Tree House I was unaware the guests had any concerns. I was available by phone at all times and never got a call or question. It is puzzling that for such minor issues they would take pen to paper versus field a simple call to get answers to their questions.I spoke with the renter weeks before the stay. When problems popped up on their end with friends cancelling I was open to modifying the rental fee so they could still enjoy a vacation. To specifically address the stated concerns: The gas is not turned off to the fireplace. As with all gas fires, there is a key on the floor and a dial on the wall. When I spoke to the guests about this I offered to have Maintence drop by and give a demo but they declined. I did find one bulb had burned out by the hot tub. We have a pantry stocked with replacements and it took about 2 minutes to change it. I would have gladly given directions over the phone or once again sent maintenance . I have not had a situation with the blue ray player but any questions or concerns with the remotes or cable can be answered by shentel and that number is listed on the property info sheet. I am completely puzzled about the trail and firewood concern. We have over 10 miles of hiking and biking trails with in the 655 acre boundary of Wild Rock. There's one trail system that circles the entire community including overlooks on the Canyon Rim of the New River Gorge, overlook at Hawks Nest Lake, access to all the best climbing spots, i.e. Bubba City and Sanstonia and a direct link to Adventures on the Gorge. Go figure? I personally went to confirm the firewood inventory and was surprised to find there was still quite a large stack under the Tree House and enough at the firepit to last all evening. Perhaps they had to gather some smaller branches or twigs to get things rolling but there was no shortage of firewood. Up to this point I have not found it necessary to label every light switch or post elementary instructions throughout the home. I felt that it may devalue or takeaway from the experience. Our main priority is our guests satisfaction and that they have an enjoyable, stress free getaway. I take this review very seriously and will explore the best options to insure we never get another like it.
