Beautiful courtyard and lovely hosts

The Middleton’s could not have been more accommodating. We enjoyed the “outdoor room” (courtyard) as much as the cook house. Thank you so much for allowing us a special time for our daughter’s graduation and engagement!

Perfect location for walking historic Charleston. Had a garden to enjoy, that the Prince of Wales enjoyed (okay-- about 30 years ago, but still beautiful). Property is old, 1783, but to update it too much would ruin part of the charm. The Middleton's (12 & 13 generation Charlestonians) were great hosts. Fun knowing meals for Geo. Washington were most likely prepared in this building which once was a colonial kitchen.

Location, Location!

  • 5 of 5

Having lived and worked in the historic part of Charleston, I was hoping to find something in this part of the South of Broad area, and feel so fortunate that the Middletons allow their kitchen houses to be rented out....the location is unparalleled!! Upon our (rather late) arrival on an uncharacteristically chilly night, Mrs. Middleton had the fireplace in our kitchen house roaring and the place was very warm and welcoming! In the most historic, scenic part of the residential district with the # 211 free shuttle stop at Church/Broad Street just a very short walk away, (opening you up to easy access to the Market, all of King and Meeting Streets). I most wanted to stay in this part of the peninsula because it is very quiet and lovely for our morning walks and evening strolls, down to the Battery, over to Meeting Street and then along Battery and East Bay, seeing Rainbow Row, the famous churches, and a plethora of jawdroppingly beautiful historic homes, dating back to the 1700's! Church Street in particular is very quiet and peaceful. From this location it is easy to explore all the interesting alleys and side streets as well. Although my sister and I suffer with knee and feet problems, arthritis, bad backs, we were able to walk to some of the best restaurants in Charleston--you can easily walk to Husk, 82 Queen, Magnolias, SNOB, High Cotton, McRAdy's etc. The one evening it was rainy, we ubered...also ubered to/from Harris Teeter grocery store a mile or so away on East Bay. The Middletons' were there to help and facilitate whatever we needed in gracious southern fashion. We enjoyed having an entire "house" to ourselves, with a kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry facilities, and 2 upstairs comfortable bedrooms with plenty of space to store our clothes and put out our toiletries. Keep in mind this is not modern--it is historic and reminded me a lot of being at my mother's house with some slightly dusty antiques--but that's what makes you feel at home in Charleston and it is authentic and has everything you need (unless you need granite counters and West Elm furnishings). We valued theefficient heating and a/c upstairs and downstairs, (needed both while we were there!) and noticed the house cooled off or warmed up quickly depending on what was needed; the towels and linens were very high quality. And off street parking south of Broad--priceless! In our 4 days, we never used the car!!

100% Charleston Charm

  • 5 of 5

From the first moment we met the Middleton's and then seeing our wonderful cottage, we felt right at home....Courtyard was perfect for afternoon drinks and snacks after walking on as many of the beautiful streets as we could possibly fit in as well as the Market Place of course.

Thank You Middleton Family... we hope to come back with more family next time.

Perfect location, but....

  • 3 of 5

Hosts were wonderful, quiet neighborhood, close to everything. Historic lodging, but could def use some sprucing up. We didn't know it was a B&B but were only offered a thawed SaraLee coffee cake in the fridge, off brand OJ, and mini boxes of kids cereals.

Still enjoyed our stay, just a bit perplexing.
