About Peggy Cavanaugh

My husband and I have been using the cottage as our vacation home for the past twenty-five years waiting for the day we could retire permanently to Northport. That day arrived 2011 when we built our new home across the street from the cottage.

Peggy Cavanaugh purchased this chalet in 1985

Why Peggy Cavanaugh chose Northwest

We fell in love with this area in 1985 and have been vacationing here ever since then. There is so much to see and do in this very beautiful peninsula, walking, biking, wineries, casino, swimming, boating, kayaking to name a few. Spring, summer, fall all the season's offer a beautiful landscape in which to gaze.

What makes this chalet unique

Our cottage is located in a very private wooded setting where you can view the birds and wildlife in their natural setting. Safe area for biking, hiking, swimming. Many wineries, restaurants, microbreweries, and shops. Close to Northport, Sutton's Bay and Leland.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our vacation in so many ways. You were great hosts, the cottage was clean and inviting. There were so many activities to do and things to see. We are looking forward to renting next year.

As advertised

We enjoyed staying at the Hummingbird Cottage. The cottage and community were clean and well maintained. We took advantage of the kayaks, bikes and shuffle board. It was quiet and serene with a wide variety of wild life surrounding the area.

Immaculate Cabin In Excellent Location To Enjoy Northport And All Of Leelanau Peninsula

  • 4 of 5

Spent 3 nights over Fourth Of July holiday. Cabin feels much more secluded in the woods than it really is with only a 2 or 3 minute walk to the association's private beach. A hiking trail starts just a short walk down the road. The people we encountered on our walks and at the beach were extremely friendly.

The cabin is immaculately maintained and is furnished with everything necessary for a short or extended stay. The enclosed wrap-around deck was perfect for our cockapoo family member to be outside without fear of him running after the almost tame deer that came up to the cabin.

We would definitely stay at the Hummingbird Cabin in future trips to the Leelanau Peninsula.

Quiet, wooded location, short walk to the beach, Perfect home base for exploring Leelanau Pennisula

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at the cottage. We stayed the first of June and enjoyed seeing baby fawns with their mothers walking in the neighborhood. The beach was very clean with a nice playground and bald eagles flying overhead.

We loved the town of Northport. Tucker's had great food and the cleanest bowling alley I have ever seen.

The cottage had plenty of room for our family of five. We would stay here again.

Very knowledgeable and accommodating hosts

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay and took Peggy up on several of her suggestions and we were not disappointed. One of the highlights for us was using their kayaks to explore the crystal clear waters of the bay. Simply delightful!

Quiet Time in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

The fact that there were trails within in walking distance and private ones too was fantastic. Very quaint and cute. No houses on the sides and surrounded by trees made it very private like. Peggy and Steve were very nice as well! The bed was a little tight for a couple who is taller, but still comfortable. Overall it was awesome!
