VERY CLOSE TO THE BEACH -- This is a deep water concrete canal which is suited for tying your boat to the dock 30' ft from your back door or just using the dock for swimming and sunning. There are 2 other areas for sunning on the main deck or the upper 3rd deck widow's walk that overlooks OIB. Rafts and crab pots available for the older kids. Lots of decks and lots of space for everyone. The outdoor charcoal grill and picnic table is perfect for those grilled fish or crabs, steaks, or burgers you want to do for the crowd.

Come enjoy the beautiful sunset canal and watch the landscape light up in the evening against the palm trees… rocking in the rocker chairs with a morning cup of coffee, swinging in the hammock, or merely having dinner under the stars with outside dining for 4 on main deck.

If you want to have that crab boil use the outside charcoal grill and lay it all out on the picnic table by the grill. Pier and center of OIB is ½ mile from the house – top end of the canal, short walk to the beach from the top end of the canal location – beautiful views, landscaping and amenities – a very easy house to enjoy your vacation in. About Ms. Mickey Key

This house was a dream come true to build something that we could get to from Charlotte in a reasonable amount of time...180 miles door-to-door. We wanted to make the house something that we were comfortable in but also make it functional for guests and renters as well.

We wanted to get away from traffic, the hectic life, and find a place that was safe with an easy pace of life with everything we wanted near to us. If we wanted to take on entertainment and night life, then we found we could easily get to Myrtle Beach or Wilmington for more excitement.

Ms. Mickey Key purchased this house in 1995

Why Ms. Mickey Key chose Southern Coast

We built this house keeping in mind that we would wanted to entertain and do crabbing from the canal and ICW, fishing, and cooking our ocean catches so we thought a large kitchen and open area would be great to visit with our family and friends, but yet we also wanted to make private spaces for just getting away for some 'me' time in different parts of the house.

We were most impressed that OIB is one of the few places one can dock their boat right in their back yard so we thought the property was an excellent choice.

What makes this house unique

The 'widows walk' on top of the house let's you see over the island to the ocean and catch those breezes from all directions while sunning. The deck on the 2nd floor level is quite nice for summer sleeping if anyone wanted to stretch their hammock there as many of our teens seem to like, the loft / game area is great for setting up puzzles or gathering for a cards, family games, etc. and away from the main downstairs living area. We have spaces for small pets so you can bring your small furry family. You can bike it around the island on the two beach bikes. My personal favorite time is to tether my raft to the dock and float in the canal, dip in for a swim, or just sun.... one very big swimming area for the kids and of course, everyone loves to catch something in the crab pots right in the backyard.

Perfect Beach Getaway!

We truly enjoyed our stay here!!! Ocean Isle beach is really pretty ...especially at the north end of the island around sunset. Stunning! We took great pictures of our family and found pretty shells in the evening. We loved the Ocean Isle Creamery, and our older children liked the beach shops on the island. We also enjoyed a BIG breakfast at the Castaway Grill one morning and had fun playing mini golf while we listened in on the Friday concert nearby.

The house is absolutely perfect for a big family. In our case we had two families together. We had 4 adults and children age 6, 8, 11, 12, and 13. Our older boys loved riding the bikes to the beach each day. We brought a golf cart and used it to scoot down to beach access very easily. It isn't far and some days we walked. The three decks on the home are a super feature. We loved rocking in the chairs on the main deck and playing with our kids in the outdoor spaces. The canal was a blast for all of our children. They loved jumping off the dock and playing in the water.

The house is so well organized. Everything you need is labeled and easy to find and use. We loved the layout of the house. There are spaces to spend time together or get away for some quiet time. This was so nice for a group of 4 adults and 6 children. We all slept comfortably and had enough bathroom space.

We were grateful for the hose and outdoor shower set up in the perfect spot to rinse off all our gear when we came home from the beach. We also loved having the washer/dryer, kitchen and grilling tools, and games/beach toys. You have everything you need in this home for the perfect vacation. Literally couldn't have asked for more. We are returning next year- thinking this is the beginning of a tradition for our 2 families.

Total paradise!! Awesome vacation!!

We absolutely loved the house and location! The house was super clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom. We truly enjoyed the balconies, the hammock and the dock. We had fun fishing and relaxing on the top deck watching the sunrise and the sunset. Loved being close to the shops, ice-cream, the pier and 2 minutes from the beach!! Mickey was fantastic! She always replied quickly and went above and beyond to make sure we were having a great time. So grateful! I highly recommend this vacation home!!!

Wonderful Getaway!

We enjoyed our stay at this comfortable, well maintained residence. It is so convenient to the beach and even easier to relax in the canal on the myriad of floats the owner has purchased. The bikes were great to cruise the island while getting in some exercise. The hammocks and rockers got a lot of use too! I would highly recommend this property as safe, convenient and having everything you need at hand.

Great Beach Cottage with ICW access

We have been staying at this cottage now for several years and absolutely love it. Great location to the beach and a boat dock on a canal near the ICW. Several decks make grilling and chilling a pleasure. Rooftop deck provides an excellent view of the gorgeous sunsets there. Access to beach bikes are a plus. Owner is very helpful and responsive. Definitely, our favorite place to stay at OIB.

Great Family Vacation Spot

Myrtle Beach 25 miles, Wilmington 40 miles, golfing, deep sea fishing, museums, botanical gardens - Orton Plantation, Brookgreen Gardens, lots of discount shopping areas in MYB, SC and Wilmington NC, and the world famous Calabash restaurants are only 10 miles away. Southport is a great fishing and antiquing village that is also the connecting ferry location to go to Fort Fisher with your car and motor northward to Wilmington to stroll that wonderful historic town, tour the Battleship NC, dine and shop in the great waterfront river areas, or explore Orton Planatation and other historic points of interest all in the area north of OIB.
