Never Fails to Amaze

  • 5 of 5

A year ago, we rented the upper unit. It was fantastic, beautiful, not much more to say.

This stay, we rented the ocean front unit for four nights. The unit is beautiful, clean (the new managers do a much better job) and comfortable. The only complaint is the ocean is loud, but can you really call that a complaint? I think not. We even saw sea turtles from the lanai.

Brenna, one of the managers, arranged to meet us when we got to the house, but we arrived earlier.

Caitlin met us gave us a quick tour and left us to our own devices. George is great to work with and very accommodating. We will definitely be staying there again!

Amazing Location and People! A Hidden Gem.

  • 5 of 5

My (new) wife and I stayed at George's place for 10 days, and I am very happy I decided to stay here. The house is a perfect place to stay while on vacation. George is a very friendly guy, and will make sure you have what you need to have a pleasant visit to the Island. The Property manager also stayed in contact with me consistently, and very quickly addressed and answered any questions/issues I had during my stay. You are RIGHT ON the water with this house, and get to have the sound of the ocean lull you to sleep.

Laie is an amazing place. If you are wanting to experience the Island, this is the place to go. The beaches are beautiful, and pretty much never crowded. And, if you are wanting to go to the more touristy areas such as Honolulu or Waikiki, it's just a short drive down the gorgeous Kamehameha highway, and into the city. I would suggest staying out of there, and go see the Island for what it really is!

You do need to take into consideration the climate that is on the island, and the fact that this unit doesn't have air conditioning, so don't expect to sit around in the house in pants and a button up. That would be the only thing I would say is a very slight negative, but most houses don't have air conditioning, and since you're on the windward side of the island, you always have a nice breeze to help out.

So, would I recommend this? YES!

The ocean view and the landscaping were great but...I won't be staying again.

  • 2 of 5

I read the reviews and read it was clean and simple but it was not very clean to me and I was uncomfortable. I was quite disappointed as this did not live up to my expectations as a vacation rental house. When we arrived we had a hard time finding the ceiling fan switch which was in the closet in the family room. I was searching around for the wooden door to the outside supply room for towels and didn't realize it was the same as the laundry room so I didn't have a towel the first night after we arrived to shower. There were only two washcloths in the bathroom and no bath towels, all the towels you need are in the laundry room outside of the unit on the side of the house which I thought was a pain. I saw a roach when I walked in the bathroom for the first time and when I opened the hallway closet I saw a flying bug and quickly closed the door so I didn't have a very good first impression. Here are my pros and cons.

-Caitlan the property manager was quick to respond

-George the landlord was good to work with over the phone and through email

-water view is pretty

-landscaping around house is pretty

-we were able to check out 2 days early and pay for the days we stayed

-boogie boards, beach umbrella and chairs, fins to borrow were nice

-Washer broke a few days after we arrived and wasn't going to be replaced until the day before we left Hawaii

-Because there is no air conditioning and with all the windows open all the time to keep air flowing and being right on the water everything felt sticky and damp. It bothered me a lot that the pillows smelled musty. (I put two pillows in the dryer on the sanitize stream cycle and that helped). It was quite humid and stuffy even with the ceiling fans so at times it was quite uncomfortable for us visiting with two small kids from the mainland.

-The description says it is newly renovated. I agree that the bathroom was updated but other than that it felt quite old and not clean when you take a closer look.

-The driveway is shared, long, narrow and a pain to reverse out of

For some it would be perfectly fine but for me and my husband and kids we will stay at the Laie Marriott on our next visit for comfort.

We found finally paradise in paradise !!!! The life of the rich and famous in Laie Point!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. Each year we go to the North Shore for Xmas. LAie point is our favourite place on the island. This year we discovered George's place, WOUAH!!!!! The place is superb. Right over the ocean. All the rooms face the ocean. The lanai in the apartment is pure joy and the luxurious patio downstairs facing the ocean has a barbecue and chairs to take the sun. Paradise!!!! You can get to the store by foot and there is a wild beach (which is the most gorgeous beach existing on earth) : there you can walk for 2 hours without meeting a crowd like in Honolulu. And of course, George is the best guy on earth. Extremely generous man!!!! We have already made reservations for next year!!!! Thanks George!

Perfect for Us!

  • 5 of 5

You have to understand what you are signing up for, and if you do this is an unbeatable vacation property. George is simply awesome -- and I say that having not even met him face-to-face.

Let's start at the beginning. This is an ideally located one-bedroom apartment in a house with two other VRBO units. It's clean but not luxurious. The climate is hard on paint. But we don't need luxury, we need clean and decent. And we got it! The parking is tight but manageable. We did see a roach the first morning, but don't forget we're in the tropics. I think it could happen anywhere.

The location is amazing. We could sit over the ocean and listen to the waves to our hearts' content. We were able to drive all around the North Shore and avoid traffic issues ... except for the surfing competition which did kind of jam things up a bit. There is a park at the end of the street where we enjoyed several sunrises. A visitor to Laie should be aware that there is a strong Mormon influence so plan on not needing groceries on Sunday. Everything shuts down. We needed to supply shampoo and sunscreen and sugar and coffee, but anything left over from previous guests is available. We did not need to get mayo, butter, mustard. The laundry room already has detergent.

The owner, George, does not live in Laie year-round, but I gotta tell you he's my new best friend. He called when I first requested to book the property and we had a nice chat. He called again the day before we flew out to confirm that everything was ready for us. He has people working for him on the island who are welcoming and available on a moment's notice. The morning after we checked in our rental car wouldn't start and I called George in a panic. After making a couple of reasonable suggestions like calling AAA or the rental company and learning we had no additional coverage, George said he would call his caretaker and she would bring jumper cables. Which she needed to buy at Ace Hardware. Seriously. And when I called him back because my husband had knocked on doors till a neighbor loaned us jumper cables and another tenant helped us jump the car, they were both as gracious as could be. The second day I called George because his fish tank was getting a lot of algae growing. So George called his fish tank guy, we left the unit unlocked, and that problem was also solved.

Finally, George and I had a great talk after we got back home. I could not ask for a better experience and I would recommend this owner to anyone.

Great little place in the perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great little place right on the water. It was well maintained and clean. The owner and caretaker (college student) were very friendly and helpful.

The bed was comfortable and we slept very well with the waves crashing on the rocks below. During the day we saw a sea turtle swimming right next to the lanai and whales further out.

The location is excellent for sightseeing. It's very close to the Polynesian Cultural Center (their show is a must see) and a short drive to all the sights of the north shore. There is a grocery store close by and next to the grocery is an excellent ice cream / shave ice store.

We would definitely stay here again.
