About the property

Beautiful Swedish Cottage on 100' of private shoreline on Little Pequaywan Lake

**From early June through the end of August, we only rent from Saturday through Saturday to ensure solid bookings all summer long. Please contact us if you have any questions about this policy!**

**Coming March 2018, we will be listing 2 new properties in the same area on VRBO! Please inquire if you are looking to book beyond March.**

This new construction is wonderfully appointed and a great space for your getaway. The interior is constructed with light bright aspen paneling & red oak flooring. The vaulted great room is terrific for entertaining and warming next to the woodstove. The custom kitchen boasts granite countertops, stainless appliances, a center island for gathering and is fully furnished. The full bath is finished off with black Vermont slate, granite countertops and aspen paneling. The two bedrooms and open sleeping loft sleep 6-8 guests. The large deck overlooking the lake leads to a good sized flat yard perfect for playing catch or other outdoor games. From the yard there is set of stairs to the swimming area & dock. The swimming area has clear water with a solid gravel bottom.

Winter: For snowmobiling fanatics, this property is located w/in one mile of the Pequaywan & Brimson Trails! The lake offers a number of species for ice fishermen. The area also has significant public property available for cross country skiing and snowshoeing! We keep the sauna open all winter to allow as many guests as possible to use the amenity. When there are extremely cold temperatures, the sauna may not heat up to the desired temperature. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Summer: Our sauna is a great way to relax at the end of a hard day of vacationing. To add to your relaxing vacation, we also offer a patio with grill/patio furniture, kayaks, and many other amenities for you to enjoy! Little Pequaywan Lake (aka Smith Lake) contains walleye, crappies, pan fish, bass and northern pike for fishing enthusiasts.

About Roxanne

The cottage on Little Pequaywan is owned by a group of friends from the Duluth area who have maintained their friendship through their shared love of the outdoors. Throughout the last several years, we have completed some wild adventures together, such as: kayaking the Mississippi River, biking around Lake Superior and hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim to rim.

Lately, we have decided to spend more time enjoying the area we have all lived in for most of our lives, Northern Minnesota! In order to enjoy the area to the fullest extent, we decided to purchase a cabin on one of the most beautiful lakes in the area, Little Pequaywan Lake.

A little more about us:

Tony: Grew up in Chisholm, Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; is currently employed as an engineer in Duluth.

Chandra: Grew up in Minnesota; graduated from Lake Superior College; currently employed in the physical therapy field in the Duluth area.

Lucas: Grew up in Northern Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Twin Cities; currently traveling throughout North America implementing business excellence principles within the forest products industry..

Roxanne: Grew up in Sturgeon Lake, MN; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; currently employed in the organizational development field within the forest products industry.

Roxanne purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Roxanne chose Duluth

The first time we drove up to this property we knew it was the one for us (likely the reason why we made an offer to purchase the next day!).

The well built and beautifully furnished cottage is situated 100' from the waters edge with a panoramic view from the living room, dining room and front patio. At the waters edge you will find 100' of lakeshore with a hard gravel bottom and a dock to enjoy everything the lake has to offer.

What makes this cottage unique

The beautifully furnished living/dining area is a great place to relax and converse after a long day on the water or in the many acres of state owned forest just minutes from the cabin.

If the outdoors is your primary reason for visiting, you will really enjoy fishing on Little Pequaywan Lake (very little traffic, no public landing) or snowmobiling on the many miles of local trails (less than a mile from the Brimson and Pequaywan trails).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just spent our first wedding anniversary here. Enjoyed the peace and quiet and seclusion. Didn't expect the snowy view, would like to enjoy the cabin in nicer weather. Thanks Lucas and Tony for the chance to stay here. We look forward to making more memories here.

The weather be a changing but this cabin has you covered, an all weather destination

Wonderful stay in a cozy cabin. First time using VRBO and was very impressed. I believe we found a real treasure and further stays through VRBO will have difficulty matching the high

standard of this cabin. All amenities we could imagine were provided from the full kitchen to the canoe and kayaks. The sauna was nice and relaxing. Fished off the dock and from the canoe. Not one bite did we get. Neighbors on either side. Distance away was sufficient to maintain plenty of privacy. On driving back at dusk one evening came upon a young buck about a 1/4 mile from the cabin. It proceed to run beside our car for a block or so before it bolted into the woods. Did not have an opportunity to use the outside fire pit even though we had all the fixings for smores. 4 nights was not enough time!! Had family in Duluth who enjoyed spending time with us at the cabin. Weather had been in the 70s week before we arrived. 40-60s while we were at the cabin and snowing as we flew out, the day after we left the cabin. Water too cold for this Pacific Northwest girl to swim in. Had adequate coverage with AT&T. Provided washer and dryer was a bonus. Plenty of towels provided. Living room TV with few channels that would come in and out. Videos, games and books also provided, if someone needs further entertainment. Beautiful quiet surroundings to unwind were all we needed. Turned on TV in master but never got a station, may have been set for video or something else. Didn't need to use so did not inquire of owners. Dealt with Roxanne, one of the owners. She was quick to respond to any inquiries before, during and after stay. Accidently locked a previously unlocked door. She quickly responded and resolved the issue immediately.

Thanks for allowing us to stay at your wonderful cabin. We hope to return in the future.

Perfect place to unplug

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay and we were able to unplug for a few days, which was much needed. The property is great and getting there is easy. We hope to be back in the summer/fall to enjoy the lake access as well.

A Return Trip for Cross Country Skiing

  • 5 of 5

We first spent time at this lovely home 3 years ago. The home was just as beautiful as before. Beds are great , the kitchen had everything, warm showers and a beautiful view. We were five adults and we skied the Mother Bear Ski trail ( cross country) for two days. It is just nine miles north of the Pequaywan Inn. It is groomed regularly and we placed donations in the box. The trail is simply breath taking. We ate at Pequaywan Inn one night and burgers were decent. WE had three large snow falls during our time the third week of February and the road in front of the cabin was plowed by noon. The most wonderful aspect, NO Cell Phone Service for the Verizon folks.. Our AT&T niece had a small amount of service. Relaxing. There was a sauna available but we did not use it. Also quite a bit of snowmobiling in the area of that is important to you.

Great winter vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We took our daughter's family, 4 grandchildren and husband, to the cabin with us for a weekend and had a wonderful relaxing time. It was the kids first time to play on a frozen lake and they loved it! The cabin was the perfect size to accommodate all of us with the loft for the kids. The kitchen was beautifully updated with all the utensils we needed and the dishwasher. The larger bedroom was big enough for the kids to join their parents in the a.m. and watch TV while others still slept. The large TV in the living room and fireplace were exactly what we needed after being at the light show in freezing cold before arriving. We all had a wonderful time. My only suggestions would be to put a light in the entryway near the closet as we had a lot of jackets, mittens and snow pants given the winter season. Also, we were not made aware of how to access the sauna that we had read about in the description.

We would enjoy coming again, winter or summer! Thank you!

Lovely accommodations!

  • 4 of 5

This cottage was a perfect fit for adventure, relaxation and comfort. Despite the -20 temps we managed walks on the lake, sauna, sledding and lots of wildlife sighting (snoeshoe hare even). The beds were comfortable, linens as well - individual thermostats in each room was a plus with baseboard heating. Only complaint is that the wood stove was not sufficient for heating the living room area, but it provided great ambiance.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. It was COLD when you guys were there. There are baseboard heaters in each room with the living room thermostat by the spiral staircase. We encourage our guests to turn up the heat when it's that cold outside. We've gotten it quite toasty even when it was -30 outside. We hope you can come visit us again!
