About Janice Leutheuser

Both my husband Fritz and myself, Janice, grew up on the east coast in Michigan and Georgia respectively. After my husband decided to start his own business and I left the airline industry to start a family, we settled in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA in 1991. We have two children in college now and an unrelenting thirst for travel!

Janice Leutheuser purchased this condo in 2002

Why Janice Leutheuser chose North Shore

Traveling extensively for 9 years within the airline industry provided me with a great insight as to the 'special' destinations that sung to me. The north shore of Kauai kept calling upon us, thus, we returned year after year until we found our sanctuary at Hanalei Bay Resort. I can honestly say it is still getting harder and harder to leave paradise behind!

What makes this condo unique

Tropically furnished with bamboo cathedral ceilings, a loft with 2 queen beds for added accommodations, three bedrooms with new Travertine tiled shower/tub, a fully stocked modern kitchen with granite counter top and glass/cherry cabinetry, washer/dryer, dining area seating for 8-10, large comfortable sectional sofa/chaise, and 3 private lanais all with unobstructed views of Hanalei Bay and the mountains beyond. Building is situated at the start of the paved beach path and directly across from the tennis courts, ice machine, and resort laundry facility.

Guestbook comments from the owner

HBR is a large condominium resort made up of several 3-story buildings, some of which have fantastic views of the mountains and Hanalei Bay. It has gorgeous, well kept-up tropical grounds and a very laidback Hawaiian feel to it. Cars are not allowed within the resort itself- just the little carts driven by hotel staff, so depending on which unit you stay in, you may have quite a walk to your car.

We booked a 1 bedroom unit with a loft in the Palms building- number 4302, to be exact. Every unit is different and I can only comment on the one we stayed in, but if you have the opportunity, this is a great unit to stay in. It’s on the top floor, with 2 private decks overlooking gorgeous bay and mountain views. It’s spacious and high-end, and looks like it was renovated recently, with stainless steel appliances and a tropical design theme. The unit is so well-stocked, it seemed I just had to look for something and there it was. It also came with some nice welcome goodies.

If I could change one thing, it would be to have the resort pool heated- it’s beautiful, but not very welcoming in the winter. Also, if you’re trying to find the resort for the first time, keep in mind when you’re driving along Kuhio Highway that there’s no sign for Ka Haku Road, and you should just make the turn when you see a dark brown sign for the St. Regis.

Amazingly Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 12, children and grandchildren, stayed in this three bedroom suite in July, 2017. It is exactly as the pictures and descriptions show. The furnishings, kitchen appliances, bedding, and towels are luxurious. We were so comfortable. There were even boogie boards and beach toys provided. As nice as the living space was, the view was amazing. We spent so much time on the decks watching the changing views of the bay and mountains, from sun to clouds to rainbows to sunsets. Every time we looked it seemed to be different and more beautiful. This suite must have the best views in the resort. And the resort itself is beautiful, from the pool-hot tub area, to the registration desk, to the tennis courts, to the Happy Talk restaurant, and to the sitting fire pit areas for viewing the sunsets. Our family loved the swim up bar and the extremely friendly bartender. Hanalei Bay beach is also beautiful and the short walk to the beach is equally beautiful. My husband and I, being the Grandparents of our family, especially appreciated the golf cart rides from place to place. Just call and they were right there. Everyone was so friendly. And I can't say BEAUTIFUL enough.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post your honest comments following your recent stay in our unit 430123. My husband and I bought this unit back in 2003 for these exact reasons: the ever-changing landscape view from our lanai, the well kept and loved grounds of the resort, and the layout of our unit which allows privacy or companionship with your loved ones or friends. The recent addition of the swim up pool bar, "Ukulele", has added so much enjoyment to our award winning lagoon style pool/spa with its signature drinks! Glad to hear that you took the mere steps from our building to enjoy the memorable sunset views at the resort fire pit knoll that is such a traditional evening event with other guests. Kauai never disappoints with all of its majestic beauty!

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for our family of 10. The condo was amazing, really clean and very comfortable. The views were out of this world, we woke up to rainbows every morning on the lani. Janice had an amazing welcome basket with fruit, coffee and chocolate, it was super sweet! The resort was great, with an amazing pool and sand bottom hot tub with water falls! There are places to sit and relax throughout the resort. The staff was amazing, I really couldn't ask for more! The resort has everything you can ask for, I really didn't want to leave the resort at all. I would definitely come back and stay in this condo!

Thank you Janice for opening you wonderful peace of paradise to us!!!

Stunning View Condo

  • 5 of 5

We were three couples traveling to Princeville to attend a friend's wedding at the St. Regis hotel. We wanted to stay in the same lodging and we couldn't have found a better place to accommodate us. This third floor unit had three separate bedrooms providing each couple with ample privacy and a large common dining and living area so we never felt crowded. The kitchen was well stocked and we were greeted with a welcome basket of goodies containing fruits, coffee etc. That came in very handy throughout our stay.

The unimpeded view from each bedroom and the main living area was absolutely stunning. We ate breakfast and had happy hour on the veranda every day just to enjoy the incredible views. I can't say enough about that view! We all loved the view and felt that it was a big differentiator for this unit. You really felt like you were in Hawaii the entire time you were in the condo.

We were pleasantly surprised by the proximity to the St. Regis hotel. There is a path that leads directly out of the unit down to the St. Regis hotel and Hanalei Bay. As a result, it was extremely easy to take advantage of the beautiful beach. The unit's location within Princeville was another major reason we all enjoyed staying here.

Administratively, Janice was a dream to do business with. I've rented through VRBO several times and Janice's paperwork and process was one of the easiest. Do note that there is no elevator to get you to the third floor. As long as everyone in your group is ambulatory this shouldn't be an issue. And the stairway to get to the third floor equals 1 1/2 flights, not three due to the way the unit is built down the hill.

We all agreed that we would return to this lovely unit should we return to Princeville!

Owner's Response: My husband and I purchased this unit over 15 years ago for just these reasons: the view that is ever changing reflecting a true Hawaiian authentic get away! I am always so thankful for our guests appreciation of this picturesque canvas! Privacy and individual space is so important, but so is quality time to make more memories with those you love and our unit allows both with each bedroom space but large enough dining, living room, and most importantly, lanai space to do so! Hope you will think of us again whenever Kauai calls upon you again!! Mahalo!

Paradise found! What a gem!

  • 5 of 5

Look no further! The beauty of Kauai is only surpassed by the elegance of this unit. Janice must be an interior designer b/c this home is so tastefully decorated with such amazing attention to detail. Every need was anticipated down to a bountiful gift basket (coffee, wine, pineapple, papaya, chocolates and more) Ziploc bags, spices, movies, novels, guidebooks, chairs, coolers, snorkel gear, floats...I can't even name it all! The loft was wonderful for our kids to have their own space. There are high end furnishings, a chef's kitchen, grills on property, an ice machine down the steps, washer/dryer and a great big fridge...the list goes on and on. We stayed in the middle unit and were treated to the most beautiful Hanalei Bay vistas: the ocean, mountain, waterfall and sunset views from the expansive balcony were breathtaking. I literally couldn't tear my eyes away. We didn't have the best weather during our week and barely even noticed because the view was stunning every hour of the day, in every type of weather. If I never left the balcony it would have been the vacation of a lifetime!! We bought fresh fish and grilled one night which was fun and easy due to the ample kitchen set up. The tropical pool is stunning as well, with a hot tub and and more unbeatable views. There is even a swim-up bar! Don't miss the manager's rum punch party on Mondays! I honestly can't say enough good things. We look forward to coming back as soon as time allows. Can't imagine staying anywhere else now, we are spoiled!! We have been lucky enough to stay at the Westin, Sheraton, St. Regis and Grand Hyatt on Kauai through the years and this is by FAR our favorite. You have created a little piece of paradise for all your guests, Janice. Thank you for an unforgettable getaway (and for graciously mailing back my forgotten flip-flops!!) The memories and views will last a lifetime (or at least until our next visit!!)

Perfect Family Units

  • 5 of 5

I recently used the entire Top Floor Unit 430123 for my family of 9 people including my husband and myself and my 2 daughters, their husbands and their 3 children to celebrate my "big" birthday. It was a delightful place to stay with fabulous views overlooking Hanalei Bay. The decor was lovely and the kitchen was amazingly outfitted with everything one could want. Janice was very responsive to any of my questions and needs. This was the first time I had ever used Home Away or VRBO. I was used to booking hotel rooms, but with so many people the price of the rooms I would have needed became prohibitive and the extra space afforded us with this rental was the perfect solution. The only drawback was that two of my young grandchildren slept in the loft and the adults felt as though they had to be very quiet in the living room after those kids went to bed. This situation could have been alleviated had my daughter and son-in-law slept in the loft giving up the bedroom to their children but they chose not to do that. At any rate, we still enjoyed the unit so much and would return in a heartbeat should our future plans take in Kauai.

Hanalei Bay Resort is in a picture perfect location. I could go on and on but I'd just be repeating previous reviews.

You can't go wrong with this condo!

The perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The first time we came to Kauai, our whole extended family stayed in all the adjoining units. It was perfect for a large group. Plenty of room for everyone. We had such a great time and loved our accommodations so much we returned for Spring Break with just our family, my husband and I and our two sons. We rented the main unit only, which worked out great. My husband and I had the master suite and the boys slept in the loft. We loved our trip once again and especially the condo we stayed in. The owner is wonderful along with the on sight manager. They're both great to work with. The condo is nicely decorated with a well stocked kitchen so having meals at home was easy. A big plus when you have kids. They have great equipment for the beach; chairs, boogie boards, and coolers. The condo is centrally located at the resort with a great view of Hanalei Bay. The new restaurant on the property makes eating out easy. The restaurant also has fun live music almost every night. If you play tennis you'll enjoy several well maintained courts including a few grass courts to play on. We played tennis in the mornings and had a blast. This has become one of our favorite vacation spots. Out of all the islands in Hawaii , we love Kauai the most. We'll be back and we can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Owner's Response: I am thrilled that you consider our unit a "home away from home" on the spectacular north shore of Kauai! With all of the new remodeling and additions to the resort, guests can enjoy Kauai in all of its beauty including the ever changing landscape with rainbows across the bay during morning coffee on our lanai to premium Mai Tai's at The Happy Talk Lounge during surreal sunsets! We look forward to hosting you and your family/friends for years to come! Mahalo and until next time....
