About Lily Mena
Lily Mena has been managing rental properties in Manuel Antonio with her husband since 2012 and loves the area passionately. Lily and Peter have designed Villa Bella Vista to ensure privacy, grand views of the ocean directly below all available in a secure tropical environment about as close to the beach as it possible to get.
Lily Mena purchased this House in 2015
Why Lily Mena chose Manuel Antonio
Villa Bella Vista is one of the 4 beach properties in town truly close to the Playa Espadilla (main beach in town). When visiting the house, you hear the roar of the ocean waves, gaze upon the awesome sunsets, embrace of privacy and jungle atmosphere. Privacy and animal life await you, yet the location is centered in town and has easy fast access to shops, stores, cafes and numerous restaurants.
What makes this House unique
When we built this house we wanted to make sure we would have a large grand view of the ocean from as many bedrooms as possible as well as the porch, patio and pool. We also wanted to make sure we could swim laps for exercise and that others would have the width needed to play games and frolic. As such the pool is one of the very largest in town and visitors can with swim laps and push off at both ends, play blind man's bluff or lounge in the shade under the tiki hut that looms out over the center of the pool. We also wanted to make sure our children and guests were safe and comfortable at night, so we spent a small fortune and installed beautiful cast iron bars in the shape of flowers and plants over most of the bedroom windows that might otherwise be accessible from the outside. In the end, we believe we have constructed a lovely, safe, comfortable and virsatile home with a great view of the ocean and massive pool with sun and shade for all to enjoy!

This house is clean, spacious and beautiful. The pool and patio and views are amazing. We highly recommend the house for a large group.
A week of favorites!
Our group of 14 had an amazing time. The property exceeded expectations! The views were difficult to leave. Time by the pool after zip lining, rafting, beaching, etc... was relaxing. And again, the view from the pool, breathtaking. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms are quite nice.
Schatzi helped out when needed. Chef Paige became part of our family and provided inspired cuisine! Reina kept everything nice and neat with a smile on her face:)
I couldn’t recommend more.
Thank you for your kind comments Donna!! We absolutely love that pool patio and view too!! So glad you were able to go on so many fun tours and then come back and relax to the sound of the waves and watch the sunset.
Making memories with family
Arrived from New England ready for warm weather and fun in the sun. Villa Bella Vista exceeded all our expectations. There were 12 of us, 3 generations, 5 children and everyone one of us had a wonderful, relaxing 7 days. The pool was the children's favorite but, we all enjoyed it. There was plenty of room for all of us to have privacy and space when we needed it. My favorite time was early morning sitting on the patio meditating on the sights and sounds of the wildlife that surrounded us. We all loved the monkeys, parrots, toucans and other beautiful birds.
With Raina coming in every day and Chef Paige several evenings, we all felt very spoiled. Chef Paige's delicious meals linger in our minds.
Prior to our arrival, Shatzi helped us book a zip lining tour and a guided tour of Manuel Antonio. We found a few other side trips on our own as we had a van and a 4x4.
Throughout our stay we enjoyed the atmosphere at Espinoza Beach, a locals beach, where families frolic and picnic together. The children did parasailing and you could always rent a chaise for a few colonies.
We would love to return to Villa Bella Vista and we thank the warm, friendly people who contributed to our perfect stay.
Wow, really glad you had such a nice time with all the animals and sunsets! I love the early mornings there too, so magical and tranquil.
Amazing time in paradise
The house was perfect for our family vacation. The 11 of us were very comfortable. The pool overlooked the ocean. There were monkeys, toucans, macaws and lots of other creatures.
We were here with 14 people - four different families and we found plenty of space available and plenty to do. Be aware, the walk up from the house to the bus and taxi's was a butt kicker (you'll have buns of steal if you do it everyday). It is also very hot - we were there March 21 - 31st. We found plenty of good places to eat and the beaches were clean and friendly. Personally, the vendors on the beach got a little annoying, but tolerable. We had plenty of monkey visitors that came onto the porch and gave us plenty of photo opportunities. We did several excursions and enjoyed everyone of them. The people were friendly and helpful. A working knowledge of Spanish would be very helpful but we did not find it overly difficult. Overall, a great place to visit - pack light as you won't need heavy clothing!
A wonderful time in Manuel Antonio
First: the house is great (and kinda two houses in one, but more on that later). But the back porch, back yard, and pool are just Amazing. If you want a private space away from hotels and such, this is a beautiful (semi secluded) wonderful place to chill.
Two for one: there are 4 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths on the 2 upper floors...this makes a great place for a big family, or a group of people. The second part is downstairs with its own front door and a door leading to the pool. It has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. It feels like a whole second family can stay here.
Staff: Reina is the maid and she is wonderful, helpful and nice. Schatzi is the concierge and she is also helpful and nice. All in all, great "staff". I will add one person to the staff: Jose Gonzales...he is the driver from San Jose to Manuel Antonio and back. He was also wonderful. No complaints on any of the staff.
Manuel Antonio is a town, a beach, and a National Park. All are great. Cute town. Big beach. Beautiful park. The bus is cheap and frequent. Taxis plentiful. Ocean warm. All the people were insanely nice. Most spoke English (often better than me).
Wildlife. Lots of monkeys, sloths, lizards. The monkeys are very friendly, but be careful as they like to steal food if left out. The sloths are cute, but slow. The lizards...ah, so many beautiful Black Iguanas. We had a daily friend by the fountain by the pool. He was a bit wary of us at first, but we fed him a few grapes and he almost became a pet. He probably should get less treats if you don't like lap lizards....We didn't feed the monkeys as that is bad for the monkeys.
At the top of the hill (about 50 meters from our house) is a bar and restaurant that has good food, the best micheladas, and great staff. We went often as it is so close.
At the top of the hill...now here is the potential downside....the house is on a fairly steep hill. We did not rent a car, so walked that hill a few times a day. It will keep you fit. Now if you have a car, or take taxis, it is no issue. If you are young and strong, it is no issue. But it is a stiff climb for people out of shape. Going to the beach requires going up this hill and down and around for 1/4 mile? Or going up the hill and catching the bus. Or by taxi. We usually walked, but just something to consider.
All in all....great trip, lovely people, good food and drinks, amazing sunsets, best backyard in town. Just remember there is a bit of a hill to climb if you go carless
Thank you for your accurate in-depth review!! We are delighted you enjoyed the house and found the staff so helpful. The area is hilly, no doubt about that. The owner of the 50 acre Preserve may make some changes and allow our house guests to have access directly to the beach, that could help some for sure.
