Overview

About the property

This space is on the second floor. Private bath 1 step down in bedroom.

The space

Our beautiful home is extremely fortunate to be one of the closest airbnbs to Belfast's downtown. You can leave your space, and in five minutes, be shown a table at a local restaurant, or be purchasing a ticket at the Colonial Theater. When you're tired after a day's activity, your bed is just a short walk up from the harbor and downtown.

Guest access

While Mariann and I hope that we've made your private space comfortable, we extend an invitation to relax in our library, dining room, sitting room, or on one of our front porches. The home's front door is open and unlocked until 10:00pm each day.

Interaction with guests

While we respect the privacy and wishes of our guests, Mariann and I are available to sit down and discuss recommendations, destinations, and tips for making the most of your trip.

The neighborhood

Our home is located in Belfast's downtown historic neighborhood. The streets are filled with lovingly cared for homes, many of which were built for sea captains and early entrepreneurs. Visitors can easily walk to everything that downtown offers. We also have the Public Library, Congregational Church, Roman Catholic Church, Episcopal Church, Baptist Church, and Universalist Unitarian as close as two properties away. The Methodist Church is just a 5 minute drive across the bridge.

Getting around

You don't need to worry about finding a place to park your car as you enjoy Belfast, just leave it home and stroll around.

Quaint, quiet and peaceful

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in this B&B for 7 nights. We used this as our base location so we could explore the coastline of Maine. Overall we found it to be a quiet and peaceful place when we were there. It is more of a bed and bath place however. Breakfast consisted of 2 miniature muffins with either a half of a banana or two strawberries on a small plate and choice of coffee or tea.

It would have been nice to have had a working TV versus a monitor to watch dvds on to at least be able to catch up on the news. We were told that we could use the family TV in the living room area, but most evenings when we got back to the home, those doors to the living room were closed. I did have to leave a note to ask for clean towels after three days use and David mentioned that I beat him to the punch since he was going to give us some the next morning. It would have also been nicer if the tub was cleaner. One of the more important informational items though, is that this room is on the second floor with a typical 18 step Maine stairway leading to it. It also has a step down to get into the bathroom. It would be a difficult place for anyone having trouble with stairs. In the bathroom there is another door that leads to the room next door that seemed a little weird since you could hear the people in the next room through it. It would be nice if there was a heavier curtain on the bathroom window. We hung one of the bath towels over it since you have to stand in front of the window to use the sink.

The bed in this room is very comfortable as well as the pillows. The lighting in the bathroom is fantastic for makeup and shaving. Better than any hotel we've stayed in.

Some of the comments listed here we would have discussed with the owner prior to leaving, but he was not available.

Owner's Response: As an “air” BnB, breakfast is not traditionally offered through a reservation, but my wife and I have chosen to provide guests with a daily morning snack. Fresh pastries, fruit, and drinks are furnished. Many towns prohibit the practice of providing a “meal” to rental tenants without a restaurant’s license. Our rooms’ listings were amended to remove the opportunity to enjoy the home’s television after disputes over individuals’ preferences. Each guest’s room has been provided with a television monitor and DVD player so that our guests may enjoy a movie from our home’s library. Our policy regarding clean towels provides all guests with fresh towels at the beginning of each fourth day of a reservation. Although most of our historic home’s bathrooms have been updated with modern appliances, two of our rooms feature claw foot cast iron tubs that are meticulously cleaned while certain blemishes caused by use through the years remain. Each guest is afforded the same degree of excellence and attention by our trusted cleaning staff. We have taken the opportunity to update Room #3’s description to clearly inform potential guests that there is a one step down between the bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom’s second door is present as a means of egress should an emergency occur. The door opens onto a landing and staircase that provides persons with access to the ground floor. We have placed a table, chair, and lamp in front of the door, thus precluding persons from opening it. Because of the home’s plumbing, several of the bathrooms are in close proximity to one another and while using a bathroom, a guest may hear another guest’s shower turn on or toilet flush. The curtains used in our bathrooms were chosen for their ability to prevent any discernible activity from outside the home. Because both my wife and I work full-time, we typically leave our home earlier than our guests awaken, and with this in mind, we strive to provide ample opportunity to interact with our guests. Review of those remarks by numerous guests written on other vacation rental websites reinforce our belief that those opportunities are sufficient, mutually beneficial, and enjoyable and our services provided are seen by most as exceeding the guest’s prior experiences with similar bookings. My wife and I appreciate the kind words expressed in the review addressed by this reply and wish that those guests had been able to end their reservation with no regrets. David and Mariann
