This beautiful family home is warm, cosy, and feels like home. Walthen House is a character home in historic Charlottetown with original Douglas fir trim and hardwood flooring. There is a big country kitchen equipped with all the standard kitchen equipment so that you can prepare meals.
There is a comfortable dining room that seats six. The living room has a good sized television (Apple TV and Netflix), two couches you won't want to get up from, and a big beautiful walnut wood and glass coffee table (If children are in your party, we can swap out the glass panels for wood panels).
Upstairs has three bedrooms with comfy beds; two with queen sized beds, and one room with two, extra-long singles. For summertime guests there is a deck with chairs, tables and a barbecue, looking into the backyard with apple tree and lindens, and a flower garden.
There is a washer and dryer in a small room next to the kitchen. Instructions and non-scented or naturally scented laundry detergent and dryer sheets are provided.
The bathroom is child-friendly, with a stool for children to reach the sink and toilet, and a toilet ring as well. There are towels, extra blankets, beach toys for kids to make sand castles, and games and books for all ages to read. There are quiet nooks and spaces to enjoy.
We have tried to think of everything for our first summer hosting on HomeAway, and if you need something else to make your stay more enjoyable, please let us know.
The house is bright, airy, decorated tastefully with some local art, and full of loving vibes. It was our own home before we set it up for short-term rentals and we hope you love it as much as we do.
There is parking for one car next to house and free street parking (except in winter).
The front of the house has black and white trim, and a beautiful flower garden in summer.
The house, yard, and deck are all yours to enjoy. The fireplace is decorative only.
Interaction with Guests:
We respect our guests’ privacy. We will greet you, show you around the house and brief you on recycling, give you a local entertainment magazine, provide our full contact information, and answer any questions you may have. Then we will leave you to enjoy your stay.
We will text you once over your visit, just to make sure all is going well. If you need anything you will have our numbers and emails to contact us at any time, 24/7, during your stay.
If you let us know of any Island interests you would like us to research for you, we will do so, and we will give you a local perspective and try to point you in the right direction for restaurants and the like.
Walthen House has lovely neighbours on both sides. It is close to play structures for children, and a park for soccer, Frisbee, etc. and the Confederation Trail for running or cycling is a five minute walk. You can also walk to Sobey's grocery store, a fish market, the Farmers Markets, a fantastic micro brew pub (Upstreet Brew Pub), the drugstore, shopping, cafes, and more. It is close to everything and a five - eight minute walk to downtown core depending on your stride.
You can walk or cycle anywhere in Charlottetown. There is also public transit system. Renting a car if you do not drive to PEI is a good idea as there is so much you will want to take in across the province including 70% of the best beaches in Canada.
The airport is only 12 minutes or so by car from Walthen House. You can rent bicycles at MacQueen’s Bike Shop and Island Tours by the day or week. Of course you can take taxis and rent cars (at the airport) on PEI as well -- you can even charter a boat if you want for deep sea fishing and seal watching adventures.
Other Things to Note:
Charlottetown has so much to see and do. It is a small vibrant capital city with an active arts and music scene as well as natural attractions.
You might like to go to Victoria Park: There is a new stunning boardwalk that winds around the harbour, and you will see many shorebirds and sailing boats, there are walking trails through the woods and by Deadman's pond, tennis courts you can book, a skateboard park, kiddies wading equipment and climbing things, a swimming pool and a snack bar with many flavours of ice cream! The Lieutenant Governor's House, Fanningbank, is on the edge of the park and there are often tours. Beaconsfield Museum is close as well.
There are Farmers’ Markets in Ch'town, and in Stratford and Cornwall as well depending on the time of year. You can walk to the farmers' market in town.
The Confederation Trail for cycling, walking, running, has several access points in Ch'town, and you can rent bicycles from a variety of places. If you have a car, everything is within striking distance. Some of our favourite beaches are at Greenwich National Park (Yvette's favourite place), Basin Head Beach, Lakeside, and the beautiful Brackley Beach, part of the other National Park, which is only a 30-minute drive! There are golf courses close by, and shopping, theatre, and restaurants in walking distance. Victoria-by-the-Sea is another Island destination of note: it has a lovely theatre, chocolate factory, restaurants overlooking the sea, antiques, bookstore, and many arts and craft shops.
Let us know what we can do to make your stay enjoyable! There is so much to see and do on PEI all year round.
