Kansas City natives with a love of the mountains, we finally took the plunge to buy our dream home outside of Estes Park, CO in the canyon on 36 Hwy.
Gary Gummig purchased this lodge in 2011
We wanted this to be a special place where extended families could come together, reconnect, and create new memories to be cherished for a lifetime. With the huge deck and fantastic views, you'll find yourself spending more time outside, hiking, biking, pitching horseshoes and enjoying God's creation.
If you're looking for seclusion, look no further. Situated on 10 beautiful wooded acres that back thousands of acres of Roosevelt National Forest, you don't have to worry about crowds! Minutes to downtown Estes and all the restaurants and shops, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
If you are looking for a true mountain experience, this is it! We loved the beautiful log cabin with its wonderful accommodations! We gathered as three sisters, husbands, two nephews & wives and two children, adults ranging in age from 25 - 66. What helped us make the decision to stay at this cabin was the fact that it was close to town (7 miles from the visitor center), yet remote. And, the other facts that "sealed the deal" was that there were five bedrooms all with queen sized beds and a hot tub where we could relax at night after days or hiking of exploring! Our family also enjoyed horseshoe, ping pong, reading guides of the area, and sports on TV as Gary so willingly ensured access. There were also games and puzzles for people to enjoy. We were also expecting no internet access as no one from our group was on AT&T. We all agreed that was fine, but when we arrived, we found that we could access the internet on our devices, but we only used it periodically as our intent was for this to be a vacation away from it all!
We enjoyed breakfasts and dinners at the cabin. Everything we needed to prepare our meals was there, and all that was asked is if we emptied anything to replace it, very fair! There was bottled water for the coffeemaker and also a water cooler. The tap water is just fine, and drinkable but the bottled water was supplied as well.
Gary is so responsive and does everything to make the stay remarkable. There were instructions for everything we needed, from how to maintain water, grill, kitchen appliances, even a flier about wildlife. We had no questions about anything while we were there. Gary also supplied suggestions for hikes, restaurants, etc. and every one of the suggestions turned out well.
This was a truly memorable experience...looking back on the photos of this cabin, all is exactly as presented. The owners care about their cabin and its guests, and did everything possible to ensure a great experience us! You can't go wrong with this choice!
Finally someone got it right. We have stayed in several "cabins" the past few years. This one is second to none. This is a well maintained property. About ten minutes from Estes and it REALLY IS SECLUDED. We did not see one person from the cabin the 6 days we were there. We only saw 2 on the shared driveway in. We did plenty of things in the area, but planned our trip around a nice relaxing place to stay. We were not disappointed. Gary was very accommodating and helpful when we had questions. Thank you for surpassing our expectations!
Party of 7 had plenty of room 4 adults and 3 kids.
We had a family of 8, 7 adults and one child, and the home fit us well. It will remain a favorite and memorable vacation for a long time. We loved being out of town and in a private setting. The home is well-stocked with games, puzzles, ping pong, horse shoes, great kitchen and well-stocked with all the kitchen equipment you would ever want, and lots of spices. It had a drinking water cooler with a nice supply of water provided. It has a huge deck with grilling, dining, and lounging to enjoy the view, along with the hot tub. Gas grill worked well. Wonderful master bedroom suite with nice roomy shower in master bath. TV/Cable worked well. Wifi was slow but owner tried to make arrangements to have it checked while we were there. Only real negative....no laundry facilities were available in house. We loved all the hiking available in the area. New pickle ball courts and tennis area were on our side of town which we made use of. Owners left a guide to area attractions, restaurant recommendations, etc which were helpful. Great communication with owners. Owners responded to our needs immediately. We would definitely return in the future and recommend the home for a visit to Estes Park.
This is a beautiful lodge home with lots of room and amazing décor. We spent five nights here, and everyone in our party couldn't get over what a great place this was to stay. We were a family of 8 adults, ranging from 23 to 84 years old. My mother uses a walker, and had no problem getting around the main level and out onto the deck. We had lots of room to spread out in all of the bedrooms, and the kids could stay up late in the downstairs playing ping-pong while the early-to-bed group slept soundly upstairs! We filled the hummingbird feeders the evening we arrived, and the birds entertained my folks every morning while they had coffee on the deck while the rest of us hiked. Grandpa counted over twenty hummers at one time! A large elk with huge antlers also awed our group one morning as it grazed in the wildflower patch just below the deck. We all thought this was a great spot to stay. It was easy to drive to Estes Park or RMNP, but we all liked getting away to the solitude in the evening. We played many family games around the big table with plenty of room for all eight of us. The owners left very thorough instructions on everything, and we would definitely rent this home again the next time we come to the area!
This was my families first trip to the Rocky Mountains and from start to finish, it will be one of our best, most memorable vacations ever. We arrived a bit earlier than expected, I forgot to plan on the time change, and the owners of this great cabin made sure we were able to get in a touch early so we could get settled. The cabin is VERY spacious and modern. One of the things I noticed right off the bat was how well stocked this cabin was. From fresh water to a myriad of spices in the spice rack for cooking, we were wowed. The cabin is SUPER close to Estes Park and the entrance to RMNP. Our first day we wanted to make sure the kids could acclimate to the altitude so we just hiked around the property. The cabin sits on beautiful property that we enjoyed every single day. We hiked just about every day and to be able to come home and sit in the hot tub was a real treat. We had 9 people staying here and everyone had plenty of room to move about. The kitchen was big enough to make meals for everyone and we all sat as a family at the very large dining room table. After dinner we all went downstairs for some ping pong competition. ALL of our kids, ,aged 20-12, couldn't have been happier and are already talking about going back some day.
I can tell you that if you are looking for a fun family vacation, THIS place is a must stay. Thank you Gary for allowing us to stay in your gorgeous cabin, being so accommodating with us, and when we come back, and we will, we will want to stay with you!
Mike, Janet and kids
We just returned from a Family and Extended family vacation. The pictures of this "real log home" are spot on. Everything in the home is either new or an antique, and the home is so well equipped. The pantry was stocked with the necessities; there was even some coffee in the refrigerator in case we forget ours. The master bedroom and bath were luxurious, and the balace of the bedrooms excellent and roomy. We played ping pong and horseshoes and enjoyed the hot tub every evening. It's just a little over 5 miles to downtown Estes Park and hiking in Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park is very accessible. The owner has notes, manuals, lists and brochures everywhere which made our stay very easy; no guesswork about anything. We hope to retun in the future and we highly recommend the property.
A beautiful full log home situated on 10 wooded private acres that back to Roosevelt National Forest on Highway 36, 8 miles East of downtown Estes Park. Minutes from shops and restaurants in downtown Estes Park and hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, but without the traffic and crowds to contend with. You can hike to Homestead Meadows from the house to see how settlers lived 100 years ago, or hike Lions Gulch Trailhead, Wild Basin, or Rocky Mountain National Park.
