This is the second property we’ve stayed in by this owner and both were beautiful and extremely comfortable. The location of this house is perfect if you’re looking to be close to downtown and right in the mix of the night life kona has to offer. The home itself is beautiful and has every comfort you might miss from home and you definitely won’t regret renting this property for you and your family.
Loved making this place our home for a while. There's so many things to love about this place. There's so much space! Three bathrooms, and two well-appointed kitchens, both with dishwashers! Then there's the hot-tub and wi-fi. I have to mention, it's a small thing, but I loved the ocean-themed jigsaw puzzles. That's one of my favorite ways to unwind and was perfect for the moments when it was too hot to go outside.
Charlott, the local contact and Tim the owner were both great. One of the rooms had AC issues. Charlott was very responsive and caring, working to get someone in as quickly as she could despite how busy all the AC companies were that week. Tim landed on the island shortly after we did and also personally followed through and checked in with us.
I will say the mattresses on the guest beds are very firm. Great if you sleep on your front or back, but a little tough for side-sleepers.
Nice home, convenient location
Great location. Very comfortable home. We were traveling as three married couples, and the home set up was great for us to spend time together in the kitchen and living room, while providing separate rooms for privacy when we wanted. BBQ was out of propane, so we messaged Tina. Quick response, and someone was there the next morning to replace with a full tank. Kitchen well supplied. Nice hot tub set up, although we didn’t use it as the weather was so hot and humid while we were there. Good a/c made the house a relaxing refuge. Storage cabinet had some good beach supplies that we enjoyed using.
The perfect house for a small group
Tim and Tina's home went above and beyond my group's expectations. We were a group of six in town for a friend's wedding (which was conveniently located right across the street), so we couldn't have asked for a better location. Conveniently located near the main strip off Ali'i, but far enough away where there isn't loud noise at night. Each room had an extremely comfortable bed, all the bathrooms were roomy in size, and the kitchen has everything you could need to make you feel right at home. We used the hot tub almost every single night, and it was the perfect way to wind down after a jammed pack day. The house is exactly as pictured and provides all the little things you may forget to pack when traveling (sunscreen, shampoo/conditioner, bug repellent, etc). The rooftop view also can't be beat. Tim and Tina were very responsive to any questions I had prior to check in as well as during my stay - they responded within minutes of my inquiries! Would highly, HIGHLY recommend this home to any group/family who are staying in Kailua-Kona area, and want a home that has thought of everything including the small details to make your trip a comfortable and relaxing one. Thanks again Tim and Tina for an incredible stay :)
Beautiful home in a great location!
You can't go wrong booking this home!! There were five of us at the house and while there was more living area than we needed, we booked the house because there were three bedrooms with three bathrooms. This gave everyone the space and privacy needed. Only the master has an attached bathroom but the second and third bathrooms are next door to the associated bedroom which was perfect for us.
On the first floor there is a large dining table which was perfect for our family dinners (we used the first floor kitchen as our primary kitchen). The second floor also had a dining table but more comfortable seating so we often found ourselves on the second floor when hanging out at the house. We didn't use the second floor kitchen much but it was fully stocked so both kitchens were very usable. We didn't have any young children in our group but I did notice various stuff for children tucked in closets so if you do have kids, look around and you'll find things like bumper seats, high chairs, etc.
The house was very clean. We were able to find dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, etc as needed to keep the house clean throughout our stay. It was very nice to have laundry available for mid-week washes. The house was also stocked with lots of extra bath towels as well as beach towels. I loved that the house had either tile or wood flooring and no carpet, definitely helped the house feel clean between visitors.
The house is located approx. 2 miles from downtown Kona. It was a little bit of a walk for those of us not used to the warmth and humidity of Hawaii, but overall wasn't bad at all. Ali'i Drive is busy so there is always traffic but generally we found we had plenty of space to walk on the shoulder and it wasn't an issue. Plus, the speed limit seemed to be only 25 - 35 mph so cars weren't going fast.
There is a lot of public beach access off of Ali'i drive so you can easily walk to a public access point from the house. Just be careful getting in/out of the water as the waves can push you into the lava (I found this to be true in most places we snorkeled, not just the public beaches of Ali'i).
When we arrived late in the evening, the second floor was very warm but we turned on the AC units and things quickly cooled down.
The owners are very responsive and nice. If you have any questions during your stay, don't hesitate to reach out. I asked a question on the last night of our stay and had a response within 5 minutes.
Great central location and well stocked!
This house is about 2.5 miles from the downtown Kona shopping/food/gas/harbor area, which we found nice because we were on the outskirts of the hustle. If you don't have a car, there's a trolley. The home is on the main road of Ali'i which was great for people watching from the front porch patio table.
There are a few small beaches nearby but they are volcanic rock, not great for entering the water because it's super slippery at the tide line. However, great for spotting sea turtles! White Sands is another mile or two down the road which was a nice white sand, but busy beach. Must go snorkeling there and perfect for kids.
The house was very well stocked for cooking. The layout is a little awkward for visiting families, as the main kitchen is downstairs (unless you want to lug all your groceries upstairs kitchen) and there was no seating area (like a sectional sofa, or love-seat) in the downstairs area which really is the hub of the action, just two chairs and a gigantic dining table. We love to cook and visit at the same time so having a central seating area to cozy up in the morning for coffee or in the evening for a glass of wine would have been ideal. The upstairs (maybe due to the heat wave during our stay) was incredibly hot, as if someone had put on the heater. We were actually looking for a heater to turn off. We didn't use the upstairs kitchen or sitting area at all during our stay.
The house has nice fluffy shower towels, beach towels, a few beach chairs which was really nice. The parking is a covered carport which was real nice in the heat it kept the car cooler. The roof Jacuzzi was a hit with the teens in our group. There was a great outdoor rinsing shower which was a blessing for keeping as much sand out as possible.
Overall, despite the awkward layout for lounging around visiting, the house was great! We loved the location, the amenities, the hot tub and Kimmy the neighbor who gives you great tips and has a super cool dog who likes to visit. We miss our home away from home already. Mahalo!
