About Michael Bidwell
We live in the United States and discovered Las Terrenas for ourselves in early 2012. I absolutely had to see LT for myself after reading this enchanting Caribbean Travel article . . . A month or so later, we fell in love with LT almost the moment we crossed over the mountain range and saw the region's stunning natural beauty: miles and miles of pristine beaches, extremely lush palm forests and the deep blue Caribbean Sea. Incredible! Once in town, we were drawn to the cosmopolitan beach scene. TOP quality restaurants, french bakeries, cafes and countless beach bar options of all levels of sophistication. Also, it is great to have the option to take a bite out of a great nightlife scene on any given evening. Great discos (The Replay), Nightclubs (Gaia), Lounges (Mosquitos, One Love, Mojitos are just the start) and even the venerable Bodega promise much fun and memories! After months of scouring and searching various places and locations with my outstanding realtor, it all came together perfectly when we saw Ventanas al Mar. The place is beautiful and the location could not be better. I don't know why LT is still largely a secret in the US. I have a feeling with their new highway and international airport, LT and the surrounding Samana peninsula is poised to become a major vacation destination.

Absolutely Great management
The property is in a GREAT location! Walking distance to eating drinking and of course the beach is right across the small street. Victor and Olympia were in contact with me throughout the entire process. Parking was ample with on site security. Condo has everything! Even beach towels and throws. The family and I have decided to return next year already. Michael the owner was a great host. Totally recommend!!.
Everything was great! The assistance of Alma and Victor during check in and various questions helped tremendously! The location was perfect, steps to beach and the morning and nightly walks along beach were wonderful. Met an amazing new friend that lives on site now! Definitely relaxing and tranquil. Would love to go again! The massages on the terrace were an added bonus!
Thank you so much for sharing your rental!
Wonderful condo, centrally located!!
We just returned from a week in Las Terrenas. The condo has everything you could possibly need, including snokeling gear, bags to haul towels and whatnot to the beach and the kitchen is well-supplied. Victor, the property manager was prompt to answer any questions we had and gave us good tips during our stay. The location cannot be beat. Walkable to downtown Las Terrenas, but not in the mix with all the motorcycles and ATVs...still relatively quiet and the beach is across the street. The location is also close to Play Bonita and Coson both amazingly peaceful and uncrowded beaches just a short drive away. The location is walkable to all the restaurants in Las Terrenas and not far from grocery stores. Stay here! You won't regret it.
Paradise in Las Terrenas
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this gem! The property manager was in contact with us after our flight landed to ensure she knew when we'd be arriving. As we got closer, she gave us specific instructions where to meet her in town so that we could follow her to our condo. The complex had a gated entrance (with security guard). The unit was absolutely stunning when we walked in. It was well kept and decorated. The outdoor patio has covered and uncovered sections. A water cooler in the kitchen was great if you didn't want to drink the tap water. It had two very large bedrooms and bathrooms and all of the supplies we needed (bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, etc) as well as a well furnished kitchen. The property manager took the time to show us on a map some places we wouldn't want to miss (Luis' restaurant for one....where we ate and went surfing at the beach). Her recommendations were spot on, and very glad she took the time to review with us. There were a few bars/restaurants that you could walk to at night, and downtown was too far either. To the west of the unit we found some nice little beach bars as well, just around the corner. Can't say that we would change anything, and would definitely look to stay here again when we come back!
Great townhouse and location
We had a wonderful time in the Domenican Republic and home base was great. The townhouse was clean and lovely. The fans did the trick and kept us cool so that we did not need the air conditioner at all. We quickly adjusted to the activity of the island and everyone was helpful and friendly. This was a big adventure for us since we rented a car, drove it to other beaches, and learned a little Spanish too! We were surrounded by beautiful beaches.
Idyllic Beach Stay
Our family of 4 loved this condo and the easy access to a variety of unique beaches, incredible dining choices and most importantly, opportunities to interact with folks from the area and all over the world. Las Terranas has a wonderful international influence.
The condo was impeccably well appointed, and Alma was great at helping us with anything we needed. Would highly recommend this to other adventuresome families!
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the international flair combined with the great spirit of the locals makes for a fun and interesting visit indeed! -Mike
The Splendor of Las Terrenas & The Samaná Peninsula
A tiny ramshackle fishing village only 30 years ago, Las Terrenas has developed into one of the Dominican Republic’s most sought-after tourist centers. An influx of expatriates from North America and Europe has brought a wide array of guesthouses and restaurants, tailored to the independent traveler. But development has not ruined this welcoming seaside community’s relaxed atmosphere. Lying on the North Coast of the Samaná Peninsula, a lush strip of land pushing out into the Atlantic, the town is blessed by the proximity of some of the country’s most beautiful beaches and by spectacular countryside around. Extensive groves of coconut trees fringe expanses of white sand which slope gently and invitingly into clear warm water.
Top 10 Attractions
1. Playa Las Terrenas
Stretching a mile in either direction from the small town center, the attractive beach is clean and safe with ample shade. Heading westwards, Playa Cacao, close to small hotels and bars, is slightly more developed than the others.
Relatively unspoilt coral reefs lie close to Las Terrenas. Divers are attracted to nearby Playa Las Ballenas, where a group of small islands stand just offshore. There are many dive shops, such as Stellina Diving Center, and snorkel hire shops.
3. Beachside Restaurants
Spread along the beach either side of the main intersection are many top-rate but informal fish eateries. Fish with coconut is recommended. Early evenings are atmospheric with technicolor sunsets over the water.
Painted walls of a beachside restaurant
4. Haitian Art
Naïve Haitian art is widely available and is often mediocre and mass-produced. The Haitian Caraïbes Art Gallery has a good and reasonably-priced selection of wooden sculptures and voodoo-influenced images.
For a small town, Las Terrenas offers a surprising range of shopping opportunities, from the small modern mall to outlets along the main street. Bargains can be had by bartering with stall-holders, especially near the beaches.
Las Terrenas is rightly celebrated for its busy but laid-back after-dark ambience, particularly at weekends when locals and tourists mingle at an open-air street fair or visit its many bars.
7. Playa Bonita
The immaculate “Beautiful Beach” is fringed by coconut trees, in which guesthouses are hidden. Less crowded than Las Terrenas, and ideal for kids.
8. Playa Cosón
This isolated curve of powdery white sand, limpid water, and palm groves looks every bit the idyllic image of the tourist brochures. A couple of fishermen’s shacks sell cold drinks and grilled fish to this beach’s few visitors.
9. El Portillo Beach Club
One of the largest all-inclusive resorts, complete with its own airport, this complex offers various sporting and entertainment options. Day visitors can admire its beautiful beach from the bar.
