About Mike McLean
Mike and family live in North Vancouver.
Mike McLean purchased this House in 2001
Why Mike McLean chose Southern Gulf Islands
On a Mother's Day trip to Pender, we fell in love with the beauty and peacefulness of the Island. We enjoy exploring the numerous beaches and coves. In 2003 we built our dream home. We love to escape the busy city whenever we can to recharge!
What makes this House unique
We built this house on a rocky ridge to capture the spectacular views. We love the high vaulted post and beam structure with lots of windows and skylights to let the sunlight in. We enjoy coffee on the deck watching the sun come up in the morning, and boats sailing by.

Really enjoyed our stay. It's amazing to see the stars while relaxing in a hot tub. Ideally located so that you can explore both the north and south islands with ease.
Comforts of Home, Gorgeous View!
Mike’s property and home were perfect for our family getaway. Fully-stocked kitchen for cooking, charming wood stove (with lots of wood - it was chilly weather on our trip), boardgames, and directly adjacent to great trail. The hot tub was even all ready for us to take a dip!
No complaints, here. Maybe bring your own pillow (I always do, so I was happy), if you are fussy about pillow choice at bedtime. My only other comment would be that I am a very light sleeper, and the master bedroom didn’t have blinds (the view is incredible, though), so no sleeping in for me! ;)
Thank you for a very enjoyable trip!
I'm happy to hear that you all enjoyed your stay on Pender.
Sorry, some blinds were missing.
Unfortunately the master bedroom blinds were damaged and had to be removed. (Broken return springs) New blinds are being installed next weekend.
We welcome you back to Pender next spring or summer to experience a different season, and enjoy all the island has to offer.
We were here for a week in September and it was excellent. Nice house, great view, clean, everything as shown in the pictures. Trailhead to Mt Norman is a very short walk. Kitchen well equipped(everything we needed/wanted was there), and pantry had spices, condiments, etc. Would have been nice if you could access the ocean directly in front of property but there are some access paths nearby. One of us is allergic and have had problems at properties where owner stated no pets but had no issues at all here. Communication/booking with Mike was easy and straightforward.
Would be happy to come back and stay here again!
It was lovely!
This was a fantastic rental for us and our 3 young children. It was clean and very well-equipped! It felt very warm and comfortable without feeling like someone else's house. The view was amazing - wasn't sure at first if we would wish we had ocean access, but it's very close by and the view makes up for it.
Mike was great to deal with - would definitely recommend this rental!
The home, was fully loaded with everything you could possibly need.
We loved the location and sitting out at night in the hot tub and looking at the stars.
The view was amazing from the patio and we really enjoyed ourselves .
I highly recommend this as a holiday hangout.
Thank you Mike for your hospitality
I can't say enough about how wonderful this home was!
We have stayed in many VRBO homes before and this is one of the best stocked - basics like spices, bbq sauce and shampoo/conditioner were very much appreciated. Hands down, this kitchen had a fantastic stock of utensils, usable knives (my pet peeve when travelling is a lack of sharp kitchen knives!) and even plastic plates/cutlery for the kids. With a BBQ on the deck just off the kitchen, we didn't need anything else to cook up a storm.
The home was clean, quiet and beautiful. The views were amazing and we enjoyed the peace and tranquility even with our three kids!
Pender Island was a beautiful place to spend a week - we did a kayak tour, spent time beach-combing and read many books on the deck. A nice grocery store up the road and a few great restaurants in the area made it easy to accommodate a family of 5.
We look forward to returning someday soon!
Mount Norman hiking trails right out the front door. Numerous beaches throughout the islands. Launch your kayak or small boat at Mortimer spit and explore the shoreline. Crab fishing off the local docks. Driftwood center offers grocery shopping, bakery/cafe/internet, book store, liquor store, and many more...
