About the property

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean opposite Thatcher’s Island’s famous Twin Lights.

1st week of Sept. -Labor Day week- still AVAILABLE. Book now !

One week left where both cottages together are available - Labor Day week -- SEPT 2 -- SEPT 9

Rate for the week-...$4950 for both cottages!

(There is a video of the property after the last photo- CANNOT view it when the photos are enlarged !!)

TWO individual delightful cottages. Both of them built in the late 1800's and have newly renovated kitchens and baths, with 2 stories situated next door to each other. TWO separate cottages. Can rent one or the other or both/together if available. They each have non-obstructed Ocean Views on rises overlooking the Atlantic and Rockport's famous Thatcher Island twin lighthouses. Located on a private road, close to beaches (scroll down to see walking distances), lots of great walking and bicycling areas, 2 miles from town's Bear Skin Neck shopping and dining.

They can be booked separately or if availability allows, both houses can be booked together.

Please note: RATES- The VRBO's 'Avg. Nightly $$$' quote and 'Get an Instant Quote' link located in the box in upper right hand corner of site is for the Glenellen ALONE and the 'Avg. Nightly $$$ is the average for July and August bookings only. June and September's average are less. The 'Avg. Nightly ' for the Elmador is about $ 415 during July and August- and a less amount off-season. Please use the 'Rates' tab for accurate rates.

Also regarding the breakdown of 'Your quote' and payment dates on the bottom of the email you receive when you are asking for a 'reservation request' are also incorrect. It is based on the Glenellen cottage not the Elmador- see the Rates tab. The 'extra guest charge'- the $15 rate per person per night after 4 people- applies only to the Elmador Cottage (which has a max of 6 guests). See the Rates tab.

Payment schedule- the first half payment amount is due at the signing of the agreement and the second half is due EARLIER than the date VRBO states- it is depending upon WHEN you book- sometime between Feb and April. (the full amount is due if the booking is after April 30). I am unable to remove those VRBO features that go with the ‘reservation request’ email quotes.

In the '3 Bedroom / 3.5 Bathroom Sleeps 10' description, the '3 bedroom' refers to only ONE cottage- they EACH have 3 bedrooms- a total of 6 bedrooms COMBINED.

The '3.5 Bathroom' is the amount for both cottages COMBINED- the Glenellen has two full and the Elmador has one full and one 1/2.

Wrap-around covered porch invites lingering with an expansive front lawn for recreation.

Downstairs- large eat-in kitchen with dishwasher, original wide white pine floors L-shaped open living room and dining room, with desk area, full bath with shower with stackable washer & dryer. Kitchen porch and charcoal grill patio area on the back side of house.

Upstairs- 3 bedrooms and full bath with original bear claw tub and hand shower. Back bedroom has a queen size bed; the 2 front bedrooms facing ocean each have a full size bed. Can sleep up to 4 people (3 beds).

From '$1800 to $2700 per week.

Elegantly furnished cottage throughout with antiques with two attached wooden decks with umbrellas, barbecue stone patio with gas grill and also has an expansive front lawn for recreation.

Downstairs- large eat-in kitchen with dishwasher, stackable washer/dryer with original ceiling beams and pine wood floors. Living room with 2 lounging areas, dining room to accommodate 8 seatings, full bath with shower and bear claw tub.

Upstairs- 3 bedrooms and 1/2 bath. Master front bedroom has a queen size bed; 2nd front bedroom has 2 full size beds, and back bedroom also has 2 full size beds. Can sleep up to 6 people (5 beds). Rates are based on 4 guests; add $15.00 per night, per additional guest. (see Rates tab)

From '$2100 to $3200 per week.

BOTH premises are equipped with all accommodations for your summer pleasure including deck furniture, beach chairs, fans, heat, wireless internet/cable TV, DVDs and board games.

Linens and towels are NOT provided, but pillows and pillow zip-covers, mattress pads and blankets ARE provided. And so are dishtowels, potholders, and bath mats provided. BUT if traveling by plane, owner can provide guests with sheets and/or towels, for small additional fees, and they must be washed, dried and folded before departure. Owner’s Sheet sets- $20 per bed (1 bottom, 1 top and 2 pillow cases) and/or Towels-$10 per person (1 bath, 1 beach, 1 hand and 1 washcloth). **Can be TBD later. Can be paid directly to the Owner upon arrival.

These are truly wonderful homes in a great location with breathtaking views….

2017 Seasons Availability and Rates-

Please note: Please see below for availability and NOT the 'calendar'.

Regarding the VRBO calendar- Because I list the cottages together and share the VRBO calendar, I am unable to show on their calendar that one cottage is booked and the other one isn't. The weeks that are ‘blocked/unavailable’ on it, are the weeks where BOTH houses are booked. So if only one cottage is booked for a specific week and the other cottage isn't booked, there is no way to tell by looking at their calendar. See below for each house's availability or email me.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY (if interested) Rockport has attracted visitors since 1606 when French explorer Samuel de Champlain landed on one of its shores what is now called Whale Cove. Bear Skin Neck- the town center, is 2 miles away from the cottage. Legend has it that the small peninsula got its name after a bear was caught by the tide and killed in 1700. Along its small roads there are quaint stretches of old fishermen and lobster-men shacks that have gradually been turned into a tourist attraction of restaurants, shops and galleries. Your breathtaking view of the Twin Lighthouses of Thatcher’s Island, named for Anthony Thatcher, an Englishman whose vessel, the Watch and Wait, was wrecked in a ferocious storm near the island in 1635 on its way to Marblehead from Ipswich, was once the first landfall of steamer ships from England heading for Boston and New York, and is now a popular kayaking destination and has biweekly boat trips from the town port.

Wonderful piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights with some friends. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful view. The only thing that would have made this place any better would have been to have a fire pit on the front porch to enjoy. Well worth the visit!

We rented the Elmador in mid-August. My family and I have been renting cottages in Rockport and Gloucester for decades. Hands down, everyone in my family agreed that The Elmador is our all-time favorite. First, the porch and views are unbeatable. Secondly, the cottage is amazing...feels like you are in England with antiques and charm everywhere. The cottage was homey and comfortable, beds were great and lots of family pictures on display with over a 100 years of history. The owner is awesome, very friendly and helpful. We cannot say enough about this cottage. Can't wait to come back.

Charming Cottage By the Sea

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our first vacation in this lovely cottage by the sea. The ocean views from Glenellen cottage are spectacular. The modern amenities, antiques and charm of this cottage reflect a rich family history and love for Glenellen. It is meticulously maintained by its owner. Great location for walking and biking on a quiet, pretty street. We loved our stay and look forward to another summer vacation in this quaint and beautiful corner of Rockport!

Beautiful spot on the prettiest street in Rockport!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at this "compound" for the last two summers, and have already booked for next summer. The first summer we were in the smaller cottage, which has every convenience and a great porch. Last summer, we were in the larger cottage, which is filled with antiques and family mementos going back a hundred years -- we loved it. The shared grounds are impeccably maintained, and owner Cutty is around to help iron out any minor snafus. Amazing site on a bluff overlooking the Twin Lighthouses, lots of great places with walking/biking range. Most highly recommended!

week-long summer vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time! Location and setting are amazing. We had everything we needed and more! Comfortable, clean, very inviting environment We were so sad to leave, but we are returning next summer. Our reservations have already been made, and we can't wait! I have already recommended this place to a friend, and she is planning to make a reservation for her and her husband as soon as she can pin down a date.
