A very pleasant vacation!
We really enjoyed our week vacation in Rockport. Our hostess was very welcoming. The house was comfortable and homey with a magnificent view of the ocean! The location was perfect for accessing the beaches and the town.
Wonderful piece of heaven
We stayed here for 3 nights with some friends. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful view. The only thing that would have made this place any better would have been to have a fire pit on the front porch to enjoy. Well worth the visit!
We rented the Elmador in mid-August. My family and I have been renting cottages in Rockport and Gloucester for decades. Hands down, everyone in my family agreed that The Elmador is our all-time favorite. First, the porch and views are unbeatable. Secondly, the cottage is amazing...feels like you are in England with antiques and charm everywhere. The cottage was homey and comfortable, beds were great and lots of family pictures on display with over a 100 years of history. The owner is awesome, very friendly and helpful. We cannot say enough about this cottage. Can't wait to come back.
Charming Cottage By the Sea
We thoroughly enjoyed our first vacation in this lovely cottage by the sea. The ocean views from Glenellen cottage are spectacular. The modern amenities, antiques and charm of this cottage reflect a rich family history and love for Glenellen. It is meticulously maintained by its owner. Great location for walking and biking on a quiet, pretty street. We loved our stay and look forward to another summer vacation in this quaint and beautiful corner of Rockport!
Beautiful spot on the prettiest street in Rockport!
We've stayed at this "compound" for the last two summers, and have already booked for next summer. The first summer we were in the smaller cottage, which has every convenience and a great porch. Last summer, we were in the larger cottage, which is filled with antiques and family mementos going back a hundred years -- we loved it. The shared grounds are impeccably maintained, and owner Cutty is around to help iron out any minor snafus. Amazing site on a bluff overlooking the Twin Lighthouses, lots of great places with walking/biking range. Most highly recommended!
week-long summer vacation
We had a fabulous time! Location and setting are amazing. We had everything we needed and more! Comfortable, clean, very inviting environment We were so sad to leave, but we are returning next summer. Our reservations have already been made, and we can't wait! I have already recommended this place to a friend, and she is planning to make a reservation for her and her husband as soon as she can pin down a date.
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY (if interested) and some tourist info-- Rockport has attracted visitors since 1606 when French explorer Samuel de Champlain landed on one of its shores what is now called Whale Cove. Bear Skin Neck- the town center (2 miles away from the cottages). Legend has it that the small peninsula got its name after a bear was caught by the tide and killed in 1700. Along its small roads there are quaint stretches of old fishermen and lobster-men shacks that have gradually been turned into a tourist attraction of restaurants, shops and galleries. Your breathtaking view of the Twin Lighthouses of Thatcher’s Island, named for Anthony Thatcher, an Englishman whose vessel, the Watch and Wait, was wrecked in a ferocious storm near the island in 1635 on its way to Marblehead from Ipswich, was once the first landfall of steamer ships from England heading for Boston and New York. Only he and his wife survived. The island is now a popular kayaking destination and has biweekly boat trips from the town port. Rockport Music’s new Shalin Liu Performance Center, which presents renowned classical and pop artists. The Gloucester Stage Company co-founded by winning playwright Israel Horovitz offers professional casts and plays throughout the summer season. Fast and frequent train service to Boston is also available- Several large beaches are located in the town limits and still more in neighboring Gloucester. Bear Skin Neck- Bars, Restaurants, Shops, and Art Galleries.
