This cottage was beautifully renovated from top to bottom in 2013. It is spacious, will sleep 6 and features 2 bedrooms plus a sleeping porch. It also has 2 bathrooms and a laundry room. The kitchen/ dining area is roomy and has a nice island and cook top. It is large enough to accommodate your large group. Tastefully decorated with attention to every detail, the cottage exudes warmth and comfort. It comes complete with everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation in Mackinaw. It is located 1 block from Lake Michigan and a short walk to Mackinaw City. You can walk to the Mackinac Bridge, Fort Michillimackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, and to the restaurant/shopping area of downtown. They say “location is everything” and you won’t find a better location to enjoy all that Northern Michigan has to offer.
If you are interested in star-gazing, the cottage is located just 3 minutes from the Headlands - recently designated as a 'DARK SKY PRESERVE' - one of only 10 locations in the USA! This is given to a few special areas that are free of artificial light. The night sky is breathtakingly beautiful!
In the winter, you can be on the slopes of Nubs Knob or Boyne Mountain in less than 30 minutes. If you prefer snow-shoeing or x-country skiing, the area offers the Headlands, Wilderness State Park or Mill Creek - all minutes away. The beautiful Mackinaw to Midland snowmobile/bike trail is easily accessed from the driveway of the cottage. Interested in a little more adventure? Try a dog-sled ride through the wilderness from a local musher! Also a great base-camp for hunters.
In the spring, birdwatchers gather from all over the country to catch a glimpse of the incredible hawk migration. You can view it from the spacious yard!
In the summer, you can be soaking up the sun on one of Lake Michigan’s most beautiful sandy beaches in 3 minutes. Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Historic Fort Michilimackinac and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse are all within walking distance – as is Shepler’s Ferry dock – the ultimate transportation to Mackinac Island.
In the fall, take the color tour through the “tunnel of trees” or enjoy spectacular scenery in the Upper Peninsula, an easy drive across the mighty Mackinac Bridge. There’s nothing quite like the sound of bugling elks during mating season at Pigeon River or the mysterious call of the loon on a quiet lake. It’s all here! Hunt, fish, hike, canoe, bike – you can do it all or you can just relax by the cozy fireplace with a good book.

This cottage is actually better in person. The pictures don't do it justice. The decor was perfect. Not at all overdone.
We are short term Grand Rapids MI residents. Everyone kept telling us to take a Mackinaw weekend. So glad we did. This area of MI has so many pleasant surprises.
We were very fortunate to pick a weekend when the trees we're at PEAK. We thought we would be a few weeks late but got VERY LUCKY.
We ate about half our meals at the house. The kitchen is well equipped and the dishwasher was a pleasant surprise.
We honestly didn't need as much space as we had, it was just my husband and I and my parents. We all had plenty of space. The internet was perfect our entire trip too-maybe even better than my home internet.
The house is truly in the PERFECT location. It took us about 3 mins to get to the ferry/Starbucks/restaurants. There is a local grocer in short walking distance as well.
The ONLY reason we gave this a 4 star rating is bc of the double bed in the smaller of the two bedrooms. It wasn't the best option for my husband and I. We ended up sleeping in different rooms the last night to solve for this. My parents said the master queen bed was delightful. The bed in the sun room was great too.
Overall, great experience! I highly recommend!
This was a dream cottage with such lovely décor. Furniture was comfy, kitchen was well equipped, and the sun room was delightful. Not only was this a beautifully decorated home, it was also within walking distance to Mackinaw City. A few minutes and a few steps brought us right into the shopping/restaurant area. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who planned to visit the area. Loved the roominess and the hominess of this cottage located in a private, quiet neighborhood.
This was a fantastic place to stay!!! The cottage was clean and decorated so cute. It was definitely a home away from home!!! We are all looking forward to booking again!!! Thanks for a wonderful vacation!!!
I don't like to be the first one to write a negative review and know it looks bad when others are all giving it five stars. However, we are boiling hot in this cottage and if not for the fact that we'd be out our money, we would have moved to a hotel. Mackinaw is experiencing unseasonably hot temps. This cottage isn't air conditioned. We go to the island for the day, get sweaty riding bikes and come back to a hot cottage instead of an air conditioned hotel. Miserable. Son is getting heat headaches at night. Yes, my fault for not noting that AC isn't mentioned in the property description. Yes, we are probably wimpy. Yes, fans are provided and windows are plentiful. Yes, others have told us this weather isn't typical. This doesn't change the fact that we're roasting at night. I monitored the thermostat yesterday and noted the cottage temp didn't get below 79, even at 11 PM. I feel bad writing this because the owners have obviously poured blood sweat and tears into renovating this lovely property. However, anyone with a sensitivity to heat might want to consider other options.
The cottage decor was beautiful. Kitchen was well stocked. Washer and dryer came in handy. Loved the closeness of the mall and restaurants. We made good use of the patio area. Diane was amazing to work with, responding quickly to any questions we had. Living room Furniture and mattress need some updating for comfort purposes. We were glad we brought fans with us, surprised to find no heating and air conditioning. This made for a couple sticky nights, but we managed with our fans. Over all, we had a nice vacation, wouldn't trade our family's together time, in mackinaw, for anything.
We loved this house and could not be happier with our stay! The home had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. We went as a family and it was nice to have the extra space to spend time together. There are store and restaurants in walking distance. I would recommend it!
Mackinaw City is a great base camp for all of your 'Up North' adventures. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, graced by the Mighty Mackinac Bridge, everything is so accessible. You can walk to shopping, the historic Fort Michilimackinac or the McGulpin Point Lighthouse or the Old Mackinaw Point Light House. Walk to Sheplers Ferry Dock and catch a ride to beautiful Mackinac Island for a step back in time. Horse-drawn buggies and bikes are the only forms of transportation there! Lots of great shopping and fine restaurants. Hop on a bike or your snowmobile right from the cabin and access the great trails. Visit Taquamenon Falls, Oswald Bear Ranch, Whitefish Point, Saulte Ste Marie, Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Indian River - all within an hour. Some of Michigans finest sandy beaches are within minutes. If you enjoy casinos, there are 3 within 45 minutes! This is a great, year 'round destination.
