Maui Sands unit 1D is a family friendly, air conditioned, ground floor, modern, 2 bedroom 1 bath unit located on an direct ocean front property in west Maui. As of 6/15/16, we have new furniture and the bedrooms have been repainted. Our unit has 2 twins, 1 queen in the master and a pull out sofa sleeper. Snorkel, catching small fish, swimming, surfing, kayaking is just a 30 second walk from your unit.
The unit has been completely remodeled and features granite counter tops, crown molding, a newly tiled shower and customized stereo speakers built right into the ceiling. Wonderful for families because it's loaded with books, toys for toddlers, board games and random snorkel gear.
Enjoy eating on our large dining table on the lanai surrounded by the lush tropical gardens and palm trees. The unit overlooks the pool and garden area of our ocean front property and your large lanai doors open right up to the tropical garden and pool area of the property. The pool, gas BBQ, ice machines, soda machine, picnic tables and the property 'library' are all within 100 feet of this unit!
Imagine relaxing on our shady lanai, sipping a cocktail and listening to your kids laughing while playing in the pool or trying to catch small gecko’s in the tropical plants just off you lanai. All while your significant other BBQ's dinner at the pool and socializes with other friendly guests.
This unit comes with high-speed wireless Internet, cable TV and a full kitchen to cook all your favorite meals. Washers and dryers are located on the property.
Maui Sands is located at the border of North Kaanapali Beach and Honokowai areas of the island. We're right on the ocean in west Maui, just a few minutes north of Kaanapali and 10 minutes from Lahaina town. Just south of the Kapalua area. The resorts next to us are Papakea Resort and Paki Maui.
BEST PROPERTY FEATURES:
Snorkeling and swimming right from our property. Being able to walk ON THE BEACH from our property for 3 miles down to Kaanapali.
Maui Sands Resort is actually the very last unit that you can walk on the beach for miles all the way down to Black Rock in Kaanapali. “Walk on the beach” being the key words! Other properties might boast they have a private beach or a little cove or something but you won’t be able to take a long sunset or morning strolls more than 100 yards in either direction on the beach. It would just be too dangerous to walk on the lava rocks and cliffs from one cove to the next.
Kaanapali Beach was voted nicest beach in the US and Black Rock is one of the top three “must snorkel” places to on Maui! I personally have seen eagle rays, turtles, Hawaiian monk seals and dolphins right in front of our property. Other properties north of Maui Sands you have to actually walk on the road onto our property then walk on the beach to Kaanapali. Were talking about a 2–3 mile stretch of beach and your at one end.

Our Beach: It moves!
Since were at the very end of a 3 mile long stretch of beach, our shoreline changes drastically depending on currents and storm systems far away. If you're staying right in the middle of middle of the 3 mile stretch of sandy beach, you're probably NOT going to notice the movement and you'll have a sandy beach all year around. But at the very end of any beach, you’ll notice the changes. By the way, right in the middle of Kaanapali Beach is Kaanapali Resort, which is a very expensive area of the island and that’s where you’ll find the Hyatt, Sheraton and Westin Resorts.
Typically during the summer months the ocean currents move the sand north towards our property and our beach grows. This is due to the increased tropical activity south of the islands. During the winter months the Alaskan storm systems push the current and the sand south towards Kaanapali and our beach comes and goes. But, a sandy beach to plant your towel down on is never more than say the property next door. Don’t’ bother asking if it’s sandy when you plan on coming because it can change drastically just overnight! It all depends on the currents and storm systems around the islands and sometimes we get effects from storm systems or hurricanes as far away as Australia and Fiji!

Water veiw blocked off, big disappointment.
Condo was ok. We were very disappointing to be rigjt on the beach and have it blocked off. There was no where to sit and enjoy the veiw. There was a fence up and we were never told why. You had to go down the beach to the park to see the water. All the BBQ's were not working. It was a little frustrating to buy $40 of fish and not have a BBQ. The condo was nice, but no where for a group to eat inside if it rains. We all had to huddle around a small table with half a seat to share. Construction going on next door and we could hear every foot step of the people above. The refrigerator was leaking, there was water on the floor and in the frig. Great location and the garden was beautiful. I don't think we would return.
This unit is in front of the pool and has never had a ocean view and the temporary, 3 foot tall fence which you are speaking of is located along the ocean wall. YOU CAN STILL ENTER THE OCEAN! There are two entrances to the ocean and you must not have noticed the 2nd entrance area into the ocean in between building 4 and 7. Wish you would have called or texted us while you were here and we could have shown you where you can enter and enjoy the ocean. Some grass areas behind the sea wall seemed to be developing sink holes and a permit is required by the state to work on the wall. The fence was placed by the sea wall for guest safety until the permits are issued. Work is planned for June, 2018.
A nice place. No beach access at the property.
The place is nice and spacious. However, it is located on a noisy road, and despite the waterfront property description, there is no beach access. The manager of the property has an additional long form to fill out that has to scanned separately and send it (have not seen that elsewhere). He also did not address our questions during the stay(TV cable issues) and despite the fact that we were required to provide flight info in advance, he did not accommodate our late check out request due to a late flight. A bit more flexibility and aloha would have been welcome for sure.
Two entrances, one is closed, the north entrance is OPEN! Obviously guests are not noticing so we'll let them know.
Regarding late or early checkouts:
We will never accommodate your late check out request at the incoming guests expense. How would you feel if you arrived in the morning with your family and kids and I told you you can't check in at the normal check in time because I was flexible and allowed the previous guests to check out late?
I thought you understood on the phone that morning when you were upset that I couldn't let you stay late because we had incoming guests who were already on the island.
FLIGHT info: Why we collect:
Because we had flight information, we knew the guests arrived in the morning and would be ready to check in at the normal 3pm check in time. We make it clear when we ask your flight times, we're asking so that we can schedule our cleaners efficiently and if the unit's ready early, we'll send you a text letting you know you can go straight to the unit.
REGARDING THE BEACH: There are many pictures of the beach area with sand in front of our property. Again, in all our ads for all our units at Maui Sands, we explain in detail that sand moves up and down the coast line and when your at the end of a 3 mile long beach, the change is much more drastic than being in the middle of the long beach. Generally speaking, in summer time, the currents moves the sand up north past our property. During the winter time, the sand moves south. Many times, when I go to the ocean deck in the morning, the sand may be at the top step and all rocks are covered and it's a big beach area, other times, the sand that was there yesterday is now moved down the beach area.
Great value stay
Maui Sands 1D was perfect for our family of four. Communication with the property manager was easy and clear (lots of info provided on property as well as things to do in the area). The unit was spotless, with lots of extra clean towels, beach gear, etc. The pool on the property is clean and decent, however, during our December stay it was shaded and cool by 3:30pm. The beach was also non-existent in front of the property during our stay as well, with the waves crashing up on the beach. We loved the location in West Maui -- close to Napili and Kapalua areas with all their great beaches. Overall, a great lower-budget option for families.
Great place for a quiet get away
Great unit for our trip away with friends. Plenty of room even with a full house. Beautiful sunsets. Close to some tasty acai bowls. We rented a car to make it easy to get around and made use of the parking spot with the unit.
Nice condo. View of pool from patio. Short walk to the end of the condominium complex to the beach. Not equipped with a washer/dryer in the condo itself, but there are laundry facilities that take quarters on site at the condo complex.
