We don’t want to brag but, this house really does have it all! Directly up the hill from Downtown Astoria, the location is absolutely the best! You can literally see the Columbia River from every room in the house except the one upstairs bathroom that doesn’t have a window! Still, you are close enough to easily walk downtown to one of the many shops, restaurants or brew pubs and in the summer you can walk to the Sunday Market. The main floor features a fully furnished modern kitchen with granite counters, stainless appliances, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, blender and microwave. There is also a family room with a picture window that just begs you to relax on the leather loveseat with a cup of tea to watch the river traffic. Adjacent to that is the dining room with a table that seats 6-8 as well as a living room with a full size sleeper sofa, recliner and a 40” LED TV and a stereo. Rounding out the main floor is a small study area and a half bath. All three bedrooms are located upstairs as is a full bath with a bathtub/shower combo. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other is furnished with two twin beds. The master bedroom is furnished with a queen bed and has a walk in closet and en suite bathroom. There are decks providing access to the backyard on both levels. The secluded backyard features tall trees, lots of native greenery and appears to be the permanent grazing grounds for a small herd of deer.

About Greg Ordway
We are full time residents of Portland and make frequent trips to the coast.
Greg Ordway purchased this House in 2012
Why Greg Ordway chose Astoria
We enjoyed Astoria so much over the last 15 years that we just had to have a house there. We looked for a house for 4 years before finding this one which was perfect for us and has a nice view. We believe others will appreciate it as much as we do.
What makes this House unique
When we first saw this house, we knew it was the one because it had the best of both worlds; the proximity to town that would make it easy to enjoy all the wonderful activities available but still far enough up the hill to provide a jaw dropping view of the Columbia. We figured the resident deer in the backyard were just an added bonus!

Do yourself a favor and rent this lovely house!
My husband and I found this house to rent while he worked for his company long term in Astoria. An employee assigned to the task had found us a one bedroom apartment with no view and no laundry facilities just under the price of this house and, being a long time VRBO user, I knew I could do better. Wow!! So much better. When we were not in the house, other temporary staff used the house and all of us liked it so much, the company ended up renting it this rest of this year excepting the couple months it is rented a year in advance by those who love it enough to come back again and again. The house is comfortably furnished with a room dedicated just to sitting a looking at the river and ships passing by. Kitchen is well stocked; we cooked almost every night for months and had every tool we needed plus the BBQ. The owners are completely dedicated to making sure renters are happy and satisfied with the place. They are nearly instantly available by email or phone if something needs attention, which was infrequent even in the 8 months we were there. Even if you can only stay 2 weeks (or one, for that matter), the monthly price of the house is a good value. The only thing to note is the spiral staircase. It was fine for us, but an older person or young children would have to take caution. But the rewards for climbing it are 3 lovely bedrooms, the huge master with a "sit in bed and drink your coffee" view! If you are even marginally fit, you will be able to walk to the downtown area with trolley, museums, docks, etc. You will be disappointed with your stay in Astoria only if you rent another property and then drive by this one. Don't make that mistake!
Hard to add much to the prior stellar reviews. We thoroughly enjoyed our one month stay in Astoria and hope to return again someday.
Still the best find in Astoria
We just returned from our third stay at this amazing hillside home, and loved to be there. The thoughtful owners provide so much: A welcoming loaf of bread and wine, and, on the more utilitarian side, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, a fine assortment of kitchen utensils. Lovely furniture, great bedding, binoculars, books, maps. Bus schedules. Everything. You could spend a day just locating all the extras put there for guest enjoyment.
After our first stay in 2014, I posted a review about the fabulous location, access to town, amazing views. That is all still true. We saw eagles, hawks, pilot boats going to freighters, (and one pilot being lifted by helicopter), fishing boats, deer, and lots of park activity. It’s an easy walk into town and just three blocks from the famous Fort George brewery.
This year, we also found the small path from the Clatsop College parking lot to the Astoria Column. The hike up that trail and then back on the Cathedral Tree was beautiful and doable for seniors. Speaking of seniors, all the facilities of the newly opened downtown Astoria Senior Center are provided to the 55+ folks for $20/year. That includes a variety of classes and social events, plus daily lunch at reasonable fees.
The owners say you must have a car. It makes things easier, but Astoria is served by a quirky looping bus system that runs very close to the house. It takes some skill to figure out Route 10 and Route 101 and some patience to go where the bus wants to go before it goes where you want to go. But if you have the time, it's great. The bus drivers are unfailingly polite and informative. and the taxis in town are available to fill in.
All this for rental rate far better than other offerings in the area. We already have our deposit in for summer 2017.
Stellar Astoria Rental
This is the second time my husband and I have rented this house. Everything about this rental is superlative. The owners are exceptionally attentive and responsive. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and the house is modern, well maintained and well stocked. The kitchen appliances are top-of-the-line and there is plenty of counter space to do some serious cooking.
The views of the Columbia River from all of the front rooms, both upstairs and downstairs are spectacular. We rarely missed watching a sunset over the river. We loved watching the ships and the boats. I spent many hours walking along Astoria's River Walk enjoying the scenery.
The house is conveniently located near the center of town so we usually walked to the shops and restaurants.
Does not get much better than this!!
Stayed in this home while we were moving into town and searching for housing of our own. Unfortunately the owners of this home snatched up one of the best homes in town, but fortunately they share it with others offering it as a vacation rental. This home has so much to offer that I could go on and on. Some of my favorites is the beautiful views day and night from almost every room, amazing kitchen, 2 private back decks and room for family of 4 to have their own space, even your own wildlife (deer) in the backyard. This home is all within walking distance or short drive to so many great attractions, stores and restaurants. The owners were fantastic, they even sent me emails of homes to help in my search for housing. I have stayed in many VRBO's including Florida, Hawaii, Vegas and Oregon and would consider this one of my favorite ones so far!!
We rented this beautiful home for just over a month. Spacious, well equipped, immaculate and centrally located it was more than we expected in a rental home. The view of the Columbia, with boats passing through , were amazing.
I contacted the owners once during our stay and, even though they were out of the country, they responded within five minutes.
I am looking forward to returning to Astoria and renting the home again.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We enjoyed having you as a guest and look forward to welcoming you back again!
Astoria is the oldest town west of the Rocky Mountains, founded in 1811. It has a rich history to be seen in many museums and the town itself. We recommend the Maritime Museum, and Flavel House Museum for starters. The town has a River Walk extending from the West Mooring Basin, just west of the bridge, 4 miles east to Pier 39 with many things to see along the riverfront. A restored 1913 trolley car ride along the waterfront is a nice experience which includes a history lesson provided by the driver. Astoria has several brew pubs, the closest one is Ft. George Brewing which is an easy walk from the house. Many nice restaurants are in town, also within walking distance. Baked Alaska, Clemente's, and Fulios are some of our favorites but there are many more to choose from. Several good coffee shops are around town. Salmon and Sturgeon fishing charters are available in the nearby marina (about 1 mile west). The beach at Ft. Stevens State Park is about a 15 minute drive. Safeway and Fred Meyer grocery stores are close. The location is centrally located just up the hill from downtown Astoria and it is relatively private and quiet. It makes for a nice relaxing atmosphere with a good view of the river.
