Property is centrally located to most of the regions activities with most activities requiring only a short drive or walk in some cases.
In the winter you are only 20 minutes from Whiteface Mountain, consistently rated as one of the east coasts premier ski resorts. A short drive to downtown Lake Placid puts you in the middle of outstanding shopping, dining, and you can even ice skate on the Olympic Speed Skating oval that was used during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
During the summer, the property is located a short drive from several great day hikes including Mt Van Hovenberg and most of the other 46 High Peaks of the Adirondack region. Also the legendary trout waters of the Ausable River are only located within a 10 minute drive on either direction. If lake fishing is more of your thing, both Mirror Lake and Lake Placid are just on the other side of downtown, with boat rentals available on Lake Placid or canoe rentals through several shops in town.
The property is centrally located for most of the summer's big events. It's located only a few miles from the show grounds for the Lake Placid Horse Show (late June) and the I Love NY Horse Show (early July). It's also just off the course of the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon in late July. Just a short walk from the house to the intersection with Cascade Road and you can watch the athletes on both the bicycle and run legs of the race pass by.
Finally, when you want to get away from all of the activity and just relax, the house is located in a quiet neighborhood with minimal traffic. It's the best of both worlds: more than close enough to any activity in the region but far enough away from the main roads that you almost feel secluded.
Year Purchased: 2009
About: I'm a Captain in the US Army currently serving on active duty. I was born and raised in New York and attended college in Pennsylvania at the University of Scranton. As a member of the US Army I have lived all over the country including Washington, Maryland, Texas, Virginia, and California. I have also served two combat deployments in Iraq in 2006 and 2009. I also managed to get my Master's degree from Norwich University during my military service. I love the military and intend to serve as long as I can. While my military career does not allow me to use this house as often as I like, I definitely take any chance I can get to visit the house and the region.
Why Lake Placid, NY, USA:
I fell in love with the Adirondack region while visiting my father's cabin in Lake George as a child. My love of skiing eventually lead me to discover Whiteface Mountain and the Lake Placid area, but it was over an hour drive from my father's place. After my second deployment to Iraq in 2009, I managed to save up enough money to put a down payment on this house and secure my own piece of Lake Placid. The ultimate plan for this property is somewhere for me to retire to after I am finished with my military service. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
In real estate they say it's all about location, and for me this house was the ideal location. I looked at other houses in the area, but they were either too far from town or they were on busy side streets near downtown. This house gives the perfect balance of being close to all the region has to offer, but still offering a feeling of seclusion.
