About Liz Stewart

I'm a native who returned home after 20 years. I love the area and the growing art community.

Liz Stewart purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Liz Stewart chose New Mexico

I love design and actually studied Achitecture very briefly so when I found this wonderful brick structure for sale I bought it. The high ceilings, large windows, original maple and oak floors and open space made it the perfect building to make my home. it sits on a small hill and the location of the building on the hill make it very private with views of the area mountains and the lights of Silver City at night.

What makes this apartment unique

I think the views, the quiet serenity make this a very appealling spot to spend some time. The property is easy walking distance to downtown and the university although the walk back up the hiilly streets makes for a good workout. There are lots of day trips one can make from Silver City and there are fairly easy hiking trails just down the road from Church House. A day trip exploring the City of Rocks which exist because of long ago volcanic action is a must and then a relaxing soak at the nearby Faywood Hot Springs the perfect ending to the day. There are a couple of small fishing lakes in the area, lots of railroad and mining history and wonderful Victorian Architecture to view. Two area museums, one at the university and one downtown give you two looks into our history. WNMU's museum has one of the best Mimbreno Pottery collections in the world. The gift shop at the downtown museum is a treasure trove of Silver City history.

Beautiful house, nice quiet location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice time at the church house and in Silver City. The house is beautifully decorated, roomy and comfortable. We had pretty much everything we needed. Liz was responsive to questions and requests. If we go back to Silver City we will definitely consider renting Liz's place again.

Thanks, Kirk

Very comfortable and liveable

  • 5 of 5

We think this must be the BEST vacation home in Silver City! In-town, private, views, beautifully decorated with original art, great floor plan and plenty of hangers in the very large closet.

We left a few things behind and Liz mailed them the following week.

Very convenient to town, the highway and the university with great views from a hilltop. Online pictures don't do it justice. Nicer and larger in person

Amazing views and a wonderful home

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 months at the church house and had another great experience there. What a treat to look out of the living room each day at the mountains and silver city below. Liz is helpful and careful to give privacy at the same time. The pets loved it - close to Boston Hill and city streets for walks

The gold standard for Home Away properties

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully remodeled, redecorated old Morman Church. spacious, very nicely furnished; Spotless, with every amenity you could ask for. Fantastic view from every door and window, in all directions. Sits on a high hilltop overlooking Silver City, and surrounding countryside. Liz Stewart, the host, is a delightful host, very compassionate and caring. Could not do enough for us. We spent ten days in this beautiful home, and enjoyed every minute of it.We highly recommend it. As a side note; if you like just plain good home cooking; try Nancy's Silver Cafe, on Broadway, in dwntown old Silver City.

Enjoyed our visit!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I spent three fun days in Silver City staying at the Church House. The Church House is located on a hill with wonderful views of the city and surrounding hills. It is beautifully decorated with some interesting works of art. The master bedroom and adjoining master bath are incredibly large and well furnished. The bath has a large shower and separate tub. The separate living room and dining room is also well furnished and has plenty of room. The kitchen is adequate and has all of the basic requirements for preparing meals. We ate most of our meals out so we only used the kitchen for light breakfast fare. The downtown section of Silver City has a nice selection of restaurants including the Jalisco Café, Vicki’s Eatery and the Silver Café. For a special dinner check out the Tre Rosat Café. They serve very good food and have an interesting wine selection. Overall, we were happy with the Church House and Liz was helpful during our stay. However, we have one complaint. Upon arrival, we found that there was no bath soap, no Kleenex nor shampoo provided. Also, there was only one small dispenser of hand soap for the whole apartment and it was almost empty. When we raised the issue with Liz, she informed us that “she does not provide those items”. We can understand that shampoo may not be provided, but basic items like hand soap, bath soap and Kleenex should be standard amenities provided by the owner for the convenience of their guests.

Owner's Response: I am glad you had fun in Silver City and enjoyed your stay at the Church House. Appreciate your comments. Just wanted to let you know there is now soap, tissues and Lavender Camomile hand soap in the Apt. I usaully have guest who stay one, two, or three months so in those cases I don't provide personal use items. I sometimes forget that for guests staying only a few days these items might be useful. Thanks for the reminder, Liz
