A bit disappointing
We stayed here a few years ago and we had a great time. We were a bit disappointed with our return stay because....when we arrived the driveway was a dangerous sheet of ice...maybe out of the owners control but he does have a snow plow....we could hardly make it to the door safely....we ran out of hot water on both days after two showers....the kitchen was much dingier than I remembered and even though I wash all the dishes before we use them....it is gross finding dishes with food on them in the cupboard.....the bed was bad last time we were there but it is terrible now...definitely time for a new one.....it is cozy and warm and has a nice washer & dryer if needed, a small space for the dogs out back and a hot tub, that we never used but it looks nice. All linens smell clean and the place is conveniently located and has a great sledding hill in the owner/neighbors yard that my kids have enjoyed both visits...and have been graciously able to use. We left on an awkward note when a man drove up in a snow plow truck at 11:30am(checkout is 11:00 we were packed up and ready to go but were allowing the kids to sled for a few minutes longer)he asked us if we were leaving because the cleaning person was on the way, then immediately started cleaning the hot tub. I asked if he was the owner as he didn't introduce himself and explained what we were doing and said the house was empty and clean etc...and mentioned we had visited before. He didn't ask about our stay but did tell us to be careful on the ice. I felt uncomfortable and we quickly packed up the sled, thanked him and drove off. We had a nice time but the place needs some TLC.
My name is Ken, the owner that introduced my self on the front porch while your kids were sledding. I am not sure where to start on your review. Winter conditions; I had sanded the drive and steps - we had freezing rain so I mentioned to be careful while loading the car. The hot water tank is 4 years old and a 50 gallon tank - no one has mentioned running out of water before? I have never had a complaint about the bed, in fact one of the many compliments we do get are comments on how comfortable the bed is. The kitchen is not dingy, but a clean older kitchen, just like the pictures show.
You, your husband and I had a pleasant conversation on the porch prior to your departure and you told me that you had a nice stay and would be back.
Its a shame to have a review like this that is false. I can only hope that you will reconsider your negative comments.
Thank you for leaving the place clean, always appreciated.
Homestead is a perfect name for this cabinish home
We found this to be a charming rustic home with modern conveniences to satisfy anyone who likes nature.
Great location away from town but close to be anywhere in 5 min.
Dog friendly - Thank you Ken from my dog.
We were there for a bridge tourney where we were gone for 4 hr stretches twice a day. Nice to get back to eat and be with our dog .
It is a relatively quiet neighborhood but there is traffic in the morning. Folks going to work. But you can hear the river in-between vehicles.
We enjoyed this home very much.
One suggestion would be to oil down the cupboard hinges - our dog heard squeaks from the turntable and thought there was something in there and insisted we leave the cupboard open. Yes it was nothing but it entertained our dog. lol Good entertainment.
A quiet, very comfortable cabin close to town
Lovely cabin. Well appointed. Comfy bed. Very quiet, peaceful neighborhood. Close to the hub bub of town. Thanks for allowing our pet.
This was our third time here. Each time we have experienced a very clean, well organized, cozy home. Lots of extra touches to make you feel welcome. We especially appreciate our small dog being welcome!
Perfect in every way!
Close to town, fitted for pets, beautiful deck and view, accommodating hosts, wonderful all around!
Perfect for our stay
We enjoyed our stay in this low key, comfortable cabin. The location is great, close in town, but away from the crowds. The hot tub was a big plus too. The kitchen pots, pans, etc could do with some upgrading, as mentioned previously. But we made do and found ways to cook casual meals. Thank you.
The Old Homestead is located 1 mile from Leavenworth on East Leavenworth Rd. We accept pets.
