About Alicia Beach
Natives of the Washington, DC area (Bethesda, Maryland), with a love of beautiful Costa Rica, Alicia and Tom first started visiting Costa Rica in 1997. Finding the beauty of the land only surpassed by the extraordinary kind, and happy Costa Ricans, we dreamed of building a home there. After looking for our dream spot for many months, we found Palo Alto, and bought the best lot, with a panoramic ocean view, high above the other homes. We hope to retire in Costa Rica someday, until that time, we offer you our home to live in and enjoy with your family and friends.
Alicia Beach purchased this House in 2012
Why Alicia Beach chose Playa Hermosa
You will not find a more beautiful view that that from the infinity pool and patio of our estate, 'Jewel of the Mountain' aka 'Joya de la Moñtana'. This home with it's totally open floor plan brings the outside in, you are one with the beauty of the panoramic view, in this lovely home in this upscale, luxury community. We loved the view, we loved the amenities and wonderful neighbors, and the convenience of the restaurants, golf courses, beautiful beach, volcano, hiking, and nearby shops.
What makes this House unique
VIEW, brand new home with an infinity pool overlooking the Pacific. Two master suites, both with patios overlooking the ocean, views from each side of the home. Beautifully furnished and of course granite kitchen with upscale appliances. Cable and wireless.

This place is absolutely amazing. It is peaceful, beautiful, and truly enjoyable. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking in the Costa Rica Area. Alicia and Jennifer were very helpful and made our vacation truly amazing.
PLAYA HERMOSA, Guanacaste Costa Rica - La Joya De La Montana "Jewel of the Mountain"
A great property in a gated community; felt very comfortable; 6 ladies all traveling to Costa Rica for the first time. Beautiful home, custom built:large kitchen, dining, great room; 4-bedrooms (2 master suites; 2 smaller rooms); amazing views with infininity pool, outdoor furniture, covered patio, made for great days/nights pool-side! Catered dinner (steak & lobster) and brunch with Marica's connection: Roccio!
Loved Carlos who did Jennifer a favor in driving us for several day trips to visit other beach towns.
We booked three excursions - the ATV tour with Tico Tours beach hopping. Great fun with great guides; but, a little disappointing that the beach towns mentioned were not all included, instead some very small off-the-beaten path.
We were suppose to start in Brazilito, then go to Concha which we did, but missed Flamingo, and Tamarindo (offered to drive to Tamarindo; but, too far to ride?); just not what they were describing.
Then the all day adventure tour "Borinquen Canopy Tour) that included Horseback riding to the 13 zip lines; but- changedto include the horseback after the zip lines. Very windy so cut the Horseback ride short. Excellent lunch ordering off a menu; mud bath and hot springs.
And our final night a sunset cruise in a private boat "The Vane" arranged by Jennifer, the property manager, which was incredible! Just the 6 of us, a Captain and his mate. Super fun and opportunity to snorkle, relax and we were lucky and got up close and personal with some Whales! (Learned this was not usual for Costa Rica - just great timing!).
Day trips to Tamarindo to see the nightlife (Monkey Bar: unusual set up with roof top D.J. music on one side; and then Latin dance band on the other side/crowded!) Only a few tables in the middle room/bar, so get there early if you want to sit; and be prepared for a good trek up the many stairs. Then to Co Co for some quick shopping; and no time for exploring. Looking at Co Co would definitely be a higher priority for return visit, seems easier to navigate without the Friday night traffic and Tamarindo very crowded.
The funnest day/night was spent in Playa Hermosa, drinks (best Mohito ever!) and dinner at Aqua Sports for sunset and lawn chairs on the beach!.
Oh and great dinner at Bocelli's (brick oven Pizza, Calimari and roasted vegetables) with friendly atmosphere!
Ran out of time! Return to see all we missed! Will definitely stay at Alicia's "Jewel of the Mountain!"
Thank you so much for your lovely review! It sounds like you all had a great tine at the home, and were able to take advantage of many of the fun activities available locally. That Sunset cruise is always a favorite of my guests, as are the day trip with the zip line and canopy tours. I am so glad you loved our chef, Rocio, she is awesome! We designed the home for groups and families, with all the open spaces and large patio overlooking the infinity pool. It sounds like it was perfect for your group. Jennifer is terrific, it’s great to have her there to take care of all our guests wishes and provide guidance and recommendations, I am happy she was so helpful to you.
We look forward to your return Laurie, we loved having you as our guest! Come back anytime, Pura Vida! Warmly, Alicia
The view is to die for!
We had a stellar experience From the moment I made contact with Alicia to the moment we had to leave this beautiful home!
The view is to die for, the home was clean and well taken care of and the beds were comfy. What more can you ask for? Did I mention that the view was to die for? !!
Jennfier was there to greet us, she promptly answered our questions and then let us enjoy Costa Rica for a week !
The house is close to dining, beaches ( we walked the hill each day to the beach.. but its not for the faint at heart, I'd advise driving unless you like that stuff) activities and basically anything you could want when you are vacationing.
The house had pool toys, games, books etc.. I love those little extras. Only thing I forgot and was not furnished was a blow dryer so if you need one, bring it.
We loved the visit from the iguanas each day and the birds were beautiful.. we even were able to see and hear howler monkeys in the distance.
The home was spacious for six people and the bedrooms were just the right size. There were also plenty of places to sit along with a little TV room that was cozy.
Know that the house gets afternoon sun and can get a bit warm.. we loved it because we are from Minnesota but it gets hot later in the day.
You can't go wrong with this place, it's everything and more than we ever expected.
Thank you , Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time
to write such a lovely review of Joya de la Montaña! I am so glad that you enjoyed the home, our friendly monkey family, my beautiful adopted country of Costa Rica, and all the wonderful local culture. Please come back next year and stay a month, we would love to have you return and get a real feel for Pura Vida! Warmly, Alicia
Ps- it was a pleasure getting to know you via phone, Beth!
Great house and location. Ocean Views were outstanding..highly recommend staying at house
Great Place to Stay!
Well furnished house with plenty of dishes and silverware! Great views, wonderful pool with toys for kids. Jennifer gave the best orientation we have ever had upon our arrival. Beaches and groceries are close by. We loved our stay here!
A stunning "jewel", both the home and property!
Memories of a lifetime celebrating our 50th Anniversary in this stunning home. A 30 minute drive from Liberia airport to Playa Hermosa, up the hill into the secure gated community. Almost on the top of the hill/mountain, Joya de la Montaña lived up to it's name. A spacious open floor plan and well furnished. The entire westside of the house is all windows and sliding doors looking out to the gorgeous infinity pool and providing a beautiful view of the ocean & incredible sunsets. When home, we found it hard to leave our bit of paradise, we spent all of our time at the pool from sunrise to sunset. We loved frequent visits by a family of monkeys and iguanas. Kitchen is very well equipped and large with a beautiful view of the property, pool and ocean. The home had all we needed and felt private but secure and safe. Jennifer, property manager, was wonderful. She met us upon arrival answering all of our questions and was always a call/text away! We also took advantage of Jennifer's offer to stock a few grocery items for our arrival. Well worth the small fee to have enough to get by for a day or so. We enjoyed a number of tours...sunset catamaran sail and snorkel trip, hot springs and mud baths in Rincon National Forest followed by a delicious Guachipelin Hacienda Hotel Buffet, a fishing trip & boat tour to Papagayo Bay and Palo Verde boat trip on the Tempisque river followed by a wonderful Tico lunch. We enjoyed a number of day driving trips (rented a 4x4) to Tamarindo, Playa del Coco & Playa Flamingo to see the country & people and taste of their food. All of our excursions were wonderful. We loved the little town of Playa Hermosa and spent time down on the beach and in the warm beautiful ocean. We enjoyed food/drink at Aqua Sports, Pescado Loco, Gingers, Robertos and Sandbar. Also enjoyed surrounding area restaurants Papagayo Seafood, Claudio and Gloria's, Father Rooster and Christina's Cafe to name a few. We found everyone to be extremely friendly and helpful. We were fortunate enough to enjoy a catered dinner at home which I would highly recommend. A small grocery store is located in Playa Hermosa that is well stocked. The Auto Mercado in Coco has most everything you will need including some American items you don't find in other stores.
We cannot say enough about Alicia, the homeowner. She is a most gracious, friendly, kind and helpful host who takes pride in her home and genuinely cares about her guests and their stay. You will love your stay here!
Dearest Melody and Monte,
It was an honor to us that you choose to spend your 50th anniversary at Joya de la Montaña! I am so glad that you enjoyed the home, the terrific Tico Tours, our gracious property manager, Jennifer, and beautiful Costa Rica. Our caterer very much enjoyed the honor of preparing your anniversary dinner, and it sounds like all went perfectly. Please return anytime, you are always most welcome! Pura Vida, Alicia
