About the property

5 Bedroom - 3 Bath - Sleeps 18

Are you looking for a great place for that family reunion? A place where you can boat, fish and enjoy the lake? A place with activities to suit everyone in your party? Holly Hills, located on Lake Gaston, is just the home you have been looking for. LakeGaston is close to many cities, i.e., Richmond VA, Rocky Mount NC,Raleigh NC, and Hampton Roads, just to name a few. Dock your boat at our large boathouse and invite your friends as well, because there is room at the boathouse to dock several boats.

This lake front home is on a very large gently sloping lot. From the screened-in-deck off the living room enjoy the view of the lake. There is a small sandy area where smaller children can play by the lake or simply keep them entertained in the large in-ground private swimming pool.

The house includes a pool table and foosball table. There is a large hammock for a lazy afternoon nap, or get the group involved in a horseshoe tournament. A badminton/volleyball net and ball are also available for your enjoyment.

The hot tub is available year round, but it is especially nice for a weekend away during the off-season. Lake Gaston is a great place for a family vacation. The average summer temperature is 76 degrees, and Lake Gaston has many different varieties of fish that include catfish, striped bass, large mouth bass, crappie, and sunfish.

Your pets are welcome in our home without an additional pet deposit. We do ask that you only smoke outdoors. This home is located in the NE quadrant of Lake Gaston off of Pea Hill Creek. It is on the Virginia side, just barely over the North Carolina line.

Guestbook comments from the owner

For the past four years our family and friends have enjoyed the 4th of July week at Lake Gaston, while staying at Holly Hills. The accommodations have been excellent, and the kids have enjoyed boating on the lake, playing in the pool and hot tub, and fishing from the boat dock. It has become a family tradition, which we are repeating in 2013.

Lots of room, peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time. The home has lots of room. The downstairs large bedroom with 2 doubles and 2 twins plus tv area with futon was great for the girls. They had plenty to do with the pool table, foosball game, pool, hot tub, plus more. We rented a kayak and paddle boards so the shallow cove wasn't a problem.

Well equipped home, so much to do, truly enjoyed our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great vacation, including our dog. The house was large and very well equipped. Nothing was missing. Very peaceful, quiet area with a beautiful pool and spa to relax in.

The water depth was a concern at first, but we had no problems at all. We hope to come back!

Thank you for a great experience!

Great place for multiple families

  • 4 of 5

We spent Memorial Day weekend at Holly Hills and had a great time! We had four families with a total of 7 adults and 7 children. Upstairs is a king master bedroom, a queen bedroom, a bedroom with two sets of twin beds (the queen and twins share a Jack and Jill bathroom), a good size living room, a kitchen (on the small side but definitely workable) with eat in dining, a HUGE laundry room that has a large counter and plenty of extra cabinets (we used it as a pantry) and a screened in porch. Downstairs is a large open room with a pool table and Foosball table and a couch, a queen bedroom, a bathroom, an entry way with an extra fridge and - the best part if you have multiple kids - a large bedroom that has two twin beds, two double beds (these are not set up like bunk beds like the description says) and then a little seating area with a futon, two small couches and a TV (with DVD player). All seven kids slept in this room comfortably. There really should be a picture of this room on the site. The hot tub was great and the pool was nice (freezing but I imagine they just filled it for summer). We used the fire pit, the volleyball net and the horseshoes. We didn't have a boat but we did bring a kayak and we also did a lot of fishing off the dock. The water is VERY shallow (only a few feet) all around the house. We did wish there was a ladder on the dock as we spent time floating on tubes on the lake and it was difficult to get back on the dock. However, you can walk up on the "beach" area (which was more weeds than sand). We all had different cell providers and there is pretty much no service at the house (not a bad thing necessarily - and certainly not the owners' fault, just want to point that out) but there is a landline if needed. They also have very limited wi-fi, basically good for checking email/social media and browsing - not for streaming (again, not the owner's fault but good to know in advance). Overall it was a great stay and we'd definitely recommend the house!

Better than expected!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent a week at Holly Hills shortly after Labor Day this year. Everyone was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed themselves! The house is very spacious, much larger than one would think from the pictures, and is well equipped. The kitchen comes with everything you need to prepare meals for a large group, from a plethora of pots and pans to a full-sized waffle maker and griddle. The second fridge downstairs was perfect for storing drinks, extra ice and fresh fish from the lake.

Holly Hills has been updated in a variety of ways that are not shown in the listing. The older upholstered furniture in the living room has been upgraded to a sizable leather sectional and the living room tube-style television has been replaced by a large flat-screen. Even the pool was much bigger and more comfortable than we were anticipating, as it is surrounded by chaise lounges and a large table that aren't shown in the listing. The hot tub, only captured in the distance of the listing's pics, was dreamy for the chilly evenings, with an wide array of muscle-soothing jets. The deck stretches the entire length of the house and we found it to be the perfect place to gather for morning coffee and post-dinner chats.

The fishing was exceptional My brother threw a line in and within minutes had a ten pound catfish, which he immediately cleaned, filleted and threw on the large grill that the owners provide. Fish were caught left and right and everyone agreed that they were the cleanest and best tasting fish they had ever consumed.

The neighborhood stayed quiet and definitely made us all feel like we had truly gotten away from the rat race of the metro area that we are living in now. Even though it rained for most of our stay, no one was ever bored and we were able to keep the fire pit thriving with all of the wood the owners supplied.

As wonderful as Holly Hills is, it has a few shortcomings. The beds have seen better days, the house is in need of a deep cleaning and the internet and cell reception is a crap shoot at best. This is a relatively remote area with little in the way of telecommunications infrastructure. There isn't anything that the owners can do about this problem but future guests should be prepared.

We hope to all stay at Holly Hills again next year. Let's be honest, when your biggest dilemma is whether to go in the pool, hot tub or the lake, you've had a great vacation!

Stay Here!

  • 5 of 5

Stay Here! The layout of the house is great. There is direct access to the lake. A spot for fishing. The kitchen was fully stocked. There were games for adults as well as kids. Hot tub worked great. Grill worked great. The screened in porch is a fantastic gathering spot. We were there when Hurricane Mathew struck and we didn't miss a beat. The owner was wonderful to work with, very available, helpful and informative. It's a great house for creating memories. You can't go wrong.

Holly Hills - Great house for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Holly Hills in July. 2 kids (6 and 3) and 7 adults.

The kitchen/upstairs family living room is super - open and way bigger than it seems in the photos. There is a new couch that is brown leather and comfortable (currently pictured is a plaid couch set.) I personally stayed with my husband and 2 kids in the bunkbed room. Beds are a little firm but nothing we couldn't handle.

The kitchen had what we needed and there is an additional fridge in the hallway downstairs. The laundry room is nice and has additional cabinets and a counter where we kept all our snacks/food, etc.

Kids loved the pool and foosball table.

The pool was a nice addition to using the lake. We rented a pontoon boat which came with a towable and we spent a bunch of time fishing and tubing. Totally worth the rental! didn't have any issues docking it or coming into the cove. You just take it slow.

The house has a hot tub, fire pit and grill. All great.

All in all we had an awesome time. It was a great place for a bigger family (or in our case grandmom, her 3 kids, 2 grandkids and an uncle.

Would stay again.

Natalie was also great to work with while we were down there. We found a stray dog and she assisted us getting him to a shelter.

We rented a pontoon boat

Lake Gaston is a large lake that straddles the border of Virginia and North Carolina. It is home to many species of fish with many guests angling to catch 'the big one'. Lake Gaston is also a great lake for water-skiing, tubing and sightseeing.

There are many antique stores nearby, as well as a flea market that is open during the summer months on Friday and Saturday.
