About the property

5 Bedroom - 3 Bath - Sleeps 18

Are you looking for a great place for that family reunion? A place where you can boat, fish and enjoy the lake? A place with activities to suit everyone in your party? Holly Hills, located on Lake Gaston, is just the home you have been looking for. LakeGaston is close to many cities, i.e., Richmond VA, Rocky Mount NC,Raleigh NC, and Hampton Roads, just to name a few. Dock your boat at our large boathouse and invite your friends as well, because there is room at the boathouse to dock several boats.

This lake front home is on a very large gently sloping lot. From the screened-in-deck off the living room enjoy the view of the lake. There is a small sandy area where smaller children can play by the lake or simply keep them entertained in the large in-ground private swimming pool.

The house includes a pool table and foosball table. There is a large hammock for a lazy afternoon nap, or get the group involved in a horseshoe tournament. A badminton/volleyball net and ball are also available for your enjoyment.

The hot tub is available year round, but it is especially nice for a weekend away during the off-season. Lake Gaston is a great place for a family vacation. The average summer temperature is 76 degrees, and Lake Gaston has many different varieties of fish that include catfish, striped bass, large mouth bass, crappie, and sunfish.

Your pets are welcome in our home without an additional pet deposit. We do ask that you only smoke outdoors. This home is located in the NE quadrant of Lake Gaston off of Pea Hill Creek. It is on the Virginia side, just barely over the North Carolina line.

Guestbook comments from the owner

For the past four years our family and friends have enjoyed the 4th of July week at Lake Gaston, while staying at Holly Hills. The accommodations have been excellent, and the kids have enjoyed boating on the lake, playing in the pool and hot tub, and fishing from the boat dock. It has become a family tradition, which we are repeating in 2013.

Great house and view!

  • 5 of 5

After a scheduling conflict was cleared up, the stay was great! The house was more than able to take care of all of our needs and the kids LOVED fishing off the boat dock. The yard was very large so they could run off all the energy and they enjoyed playing volleyball :-)

Fun times at Holly Hills

  • 4 of 5

Our party consisted of 7 adults, 2 teens and 9 kids 10 and under. The house was nicely laid out with a great room on the main floor sandwiched with 2 bedrooms (bunk room sleeping 4 and a queen room sleeping 2) on one side with a shared bath and a king bedroom on the other side with a private bath. There are sliders off of the queen and king bedroom leading to the screened porch. There was a large tear in the screen in the middle of the porch but we were not bothered by insects. The laundry room with many cupboards to keep your food in and is right off the kitchen/great room area and the stairs to the lower level. The lower level had the extra refrigerator right by the back door which was a godsend, a queen bedroom that was supposed to be the quiet room (my son and daughter in law said that they heard the dishwasher door open every time because there is a vent right in front of it and the door makes a loud sound), a bathroom, a pool table and fuse ball table with a couch to sit on and then the dorm room which slept the 10 and under crowd for us with a old box tv in it. In the room with the pool table there is a sliding glass door leading out to the hot tub, grill and pool. We ended up not using that door because it didn't close easily, so we kept it locked. The Pool was lovely and we used it daily and so was the hot tub. The kids enjoyed the lake more because it was warmer and they loved digging for clams and jumping off the dock. Our kids found 2 chairs, a fishing pole a pot and numerous other things in the mud out from the dock. They spent days diving and digging under the water and it was of great amusement of what they might find next! The dock has some soft spots that I was worried one of the kids might go through but nothing happened. We had a total of eighteen people to feed and there was plenty of dishes to eat off of but we had a hard time feeding that many with the small pots and pans. I brought a couple of things and we were able to get by so bring some large pots and pans. We also paid for the towels and sheets and they were extremely nice, very good quality, but for the dish towels and dish rags we were only given one of each for the whole week and we also were not given any bath rugs to step on from the shower which would of been nice. There is a volleyball net and ball which was fun. My husband and I enjoyed the quiet mornings on the porch in front of our bedroom drinking coffee and listening to the birds. Dogs loved it too.

Perfect house

  • 5 of 5

Really nice & comfortable for large families. There was something for everyone: Pool, fishing, boating, dock, volley ball, horseshoes, hammock, pool table & screen porch has great view. Plenty of beds. Open floor plan really works well. Totally loved it. I had knee surgery in March steps were challenging for me but family had no problem.

Peaceful and Relaxing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

What a great vacation!! Natalie, the manager, was very helpful and informative before our vacation. She answered all questions we had. The house was great. It was very spacious. The layout of the house worked perfectly. The screened in porch was an added plus. Having 2 refrigerators was awesome. The pool was nice, but a tad bit cold. (Not Natalie's fault) . However, on 90 degree days, it was refreshing. I have to agree with other reviews that the lake was very shallow. It was not a problem, but other visitors may want to make note of it.

We rented kayaks which was awesome. They were not expensive and it let us explore the lake. While our intention was to just sit, relax, swim and fish, the other family that came with us had other plans. They did not like sitting and doing nothing :). However, they made a trip to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg (2 hours) and Virginia Beach (2 hours) on another day. So, This location has something for everyone.

Another plus was we were able to bring our dogs on vacation with us. Very easy access in and out of the lake.

Natalie - Thank you so much for sharing your property with us. It was truly, truly a relaxing vacation. It was nice to have the peace and quiet and just relax. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Fabulous 4th of July

  • 5 of 5

For a number of years our family has historically spent the 4th of July week at the Holly Hills house, and we've never been disappointed. The combination of the pool, hot-tub and lake activities make it an ideal vacation spot. It is located in a quiet finger of the lake, but access to the main lake is very quick and easy. The boat dock easily accommodates two boats, and our grandkids think it's ideal for fishing. Staying at Holly Hills for the 4th of July has become a tradition that our family looks forward to each year, and one that we will continue to enjoy.

Lots of room, peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time. The home has lots of room. The downstairs large bedroom with 2 doubles and 2 twins plus tv area with futon was great for the girls. They had plenty to do with the pool table, foosball game, pool, hot tub, plus more. We rented a kayak and paddle boards so the shallow cove wasn't a problem.

Lake Gaston is a large lake that straddles the border of Virginia and North Carolina. It is home to many species of fish with many guests angling to catch 'the big one'. Lake Gaston is also a great lake for water-skiing, tubing and sightseeing.

There are many antique stores nearby, as well as a flea market that is open during the summer months on Friday and Saturday.
