Unique Floating-home On San Francisco Bay

Bedrooms 2
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house boat
Minimum Stay 7 - 31 nights

About the property

Floating Home, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (sleeps 4); Water And Mountain Views

Our home is in Sausalito’s unique waterfront community within the vibrant San Francisco urban area. Our 2000 square foot, two-story home has wonderful views of mountains, bay, marinas, and sea birds.

Our house is nicely and comfortably furnished, with a fully-equipped, wrap-around kitchen with granite counters, 3 decks with great views, and is light and airy with lots of windows and skylights.

The setting of our home is unusual as it is one of only a few in the houseboat community with an empty berth on one side - affording privacy, quiet and scenic views. Designed to take advantage of its location, it is very open, with 5 skylights and large windows/glass doors that provide terrific daytime light and views. Yet, there is privacy on the side of the house with a close by neighbor. The deck is relatively large and exceptionally private . Its furniture is very comfortable, with a table and umbrella for eating, convenient to the kitchen. In nice weather, with the doors open (no bugs here!), the deck is like an extension of the house.

Downstairs, we have two bedrooms and two full bathrooms; the master bathroom is en suite, has double sinks and a combined large marble shower and jacuzzi which can fit 2 snugly. One bedroom also serves as a study. On the top floor there are a sun-filled living room, a modern kitchen, and a breakfast/music room in a full-floor open design with 12' ceilings.

Our home has paintings, photographs, and artifacts from our travels in the us, europe, africa, south and central america. We ask that you take care of them as you would your own things.

This home also has many amenities: hardwood floors, gas fireplace (sf summer nights tend to be cool), multiple open doors and windows (there is no humidity, so there are no mosquitoes), washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub, toto washlet toilet seats, adjustable tempurpedic king bed, piano, 2 bose wave radio/cd players, 3 tvs, wired and wireless internet access, directv with premium channel, dvd player, vcr, tivo, color copier/printer/fax and speaker phone.

We are minutes walk from bay-area public transportation and ferries. Our home comes with free parking. Please note that our home is non-smoking and that we cannot accept pets -- sorry.

The sausalito floating home community is a uniquely relaxing and beautiful setting that provides ready access to san francisco as well as to parks, beaches, and recreation areas of marin county and the napa/sonoma wine country.

About owner/property manager

We are a retired professional couple. Prior to moving to SF in 2000, we spent most of our professional lives in Washington, DC but are native New Yorkers. We have a second home in Manhattan which allows us to rent out our primary residence from time to time.

Jim worked for many years as a health care researcher in his own business and as part of a research institute. Eve worked for 20 years in the US Senate and managed several statewide political campaigns. After leaving the Senate she's consulted abroad for USAID, lectured and been an adjunct professor of political science.

owner/property manager purchased this house boat in 2000

Why owner/property manager chose Sausalito

There are over 400 floating homes in Sausalito and each one is unique. Features that make our home special are its comfort, openness and lightness and relative privacy, given the unusual space between our home and our neighbors. There are windows all around, 5 skylights, a large glass door leading to a large deck with extremely comfortable furniture, outdoor dining, and gorgeous views. The deck serves as an extension to the living room and is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds. The interior design is open so that the entire top floor -- living room, kitchen, and music room -- are interconnected. Our travel artifacts and large collection of books and music make staying here a homey experience. And, like other homes in the area, we are close to recreation, cultural activities, and numerous restaurants.

What makes this house boat unique

You can rent a kayak in Sausalito & launch it from deck, if you like, or paddle around the floating home community. You can rent a bike and ride the Marin County bike path, both about a block from our house. You can conveniently visit the City by ferry or car, enjoy the many outdoor activities and scenic areas of Marin County or visit the wine country in less than an hour. You can also stay 'home' in Sausalito, take in the beaches, beauty, restaurants, galleries, shops, gourmet groceries, nearby cinema, playhouses, book stores and other cultural experiences.

8th Wonder of the World!

  • 5 of 5

Located in a very peaceful community in Sausalito, this charming floating home is a wonderful way to spend your vacation. Trust me, you won't want to leave! It is centrally located with easy access to San Francisco and other attractions in the Bay Area. The property also has a beautiful outside living area that is perfect for spending a quiet day on the deck reading a book, or enjoying a nice meal overlooking the water, watching the wildlife, with your favorite glass of wine. Sunrise and sunsets are equally spectacular and simply breathtaking. The owner is so nice and goes the extra mile to insure your experience at their property is a memorable one. The inside décor has a really cool vibe that naturally makes you feel at home and in happy place. If you are seeking a unique living experience, this is the place for you!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with another couple stayed in this beautiful home while visiting the Bay area and had a wonderful time. This was the perfect location for us while visiting all the area attractions and what a nice peaceful escape from the city at the end of the day, the views are amazing. I think we spent more time relaxing on the deck than inside, the weather was perfect the entire week and it was too nice to stay inside. We spent a couple of days in Sausalito and really enjoyed the restaurants, local shops and relaxing while taking in the views. The homeowner Eve is very helpful with tips about the area and kept us well informed throughout the entire rental process. We have rented several homes through VRBO and I've never had anyone as helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend this rental!

The only place you need to know about when looking for a place to stay in the Bay Area!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our two adult children stayed in this lovely home while visiting the Bay Area. It truly exceeded our expectations. It is located, in a floating home community, in Sausalito. It was the prefect centralized location for our trip. Close to ferry access to San Francisco ,or easy access to route 101, which takes you over the Golden Gate. We made numerous trips to San Francisco, we traveled to Moneterey, to Napa Valley, to Muir Woods twice, and even to Yosemite! All long action packed days which made returning to this tastefully decorated and quiet home that much more special. We looked at a lot of properties before making our final decision and we are so glad we chose this one. We rented a car and we had free and hassle free parking. Eve the homeowner is very hands on and kept us updated throughout the entire process. She provided us with so much useful information, which made our trip so much smoother. We knew about all best restaurants, where the nearest supermarkets were located and etc....before we even arrived. Again truly a wonderful house that was accurately represented and even still exceeded our expectations. Do yourself a favor and stop wasting your time looking at any other rentals. For a property this nice and at such an affordable rate, you can not beat this lovely home!!

Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay. My wife and I arrived with our three daughters to find a beautiful and quaint "houseboat" on the piers of Sausalito. Waking up to ducks swimming by your bedroom window and beautiful views of Mt. Tam at first light made it a vacation to remember. Beautifully appointed and immaculately kept, it was like being at home on the water. The owners couldn't be nicer and communicated with us frequently to ensure our stay was well planned and worry free. What a wonderful area and what a wonderful, unique home. You can't go wrong.

a wonderful place !!!!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to see that this houseboat was more than shown on the listing pictures ! It was twice the size I had imagined. The master bathroom was gorgeous and even had a huge soaking tub. The kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed the peaceful setting. The deck was perfect to relax and enjoy the sunset. Each day the Canadian geese came by to say hello. All the houseboats were unique and the pier was decorated with beautiful plants and flowers. It was a delightful stay. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to have a great houseboat experience.

Great Holiday Visit

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for eight days to be able to have the family together over Christmas. The location was great, beautiful and close to everything we needed. The houseboat is comfortable and cooking for all of us was a treat in the well stocked kitchen. The community was friendly and comfortable. The owners were gracious and helpful at all times.

We would return here.
