Beautiful Bathtub Beach -- Clean, roomy beach house just steps from the ocean

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 - 5 nights

About the property

Private beach house is an island paradise. A 2 bedroom, 2 bath charmer.

Gorgeous oceanfront beach house with a large private yard directly across from the Polynesian Cultural Center. It's rare to find a home on the North Shore that offers a safe, private swimming beach right in front of the house. This property has it all. A single family 1500 square ft. beach house maintained to the owners' standards. Central air conditioning, stainless steel appliances, new refrigerator, granite countertops, travertine floors, plantation shutters, new Smart TV in living room and plasma TV with cable in 2nd bedroom, Wi-fi high-speed internet, new outdoor grill, microwave, and a full-size washer and dryer.

The home has a huge private, fenced yard for the kids to run and play. We are tucked away from the highway which makes for a quiet setting away from traffic noise. The back of the house faces east and rewards the early riser with spectacular sunrises. From our lanai you may spot sea turtles or monk seals anytime and whales in the winter. New steps installed in October 2015 allow for easy ocean access. This private, reef-protected beach makes it safe to swim right in front of the home, regardless of the season. The "bathtub" area is perfect for kids of all ages.

The roomy home has and two bedrooms, two full baths, a large living room with well-appointed furnishings, and a dining table which seats six. There are two queen beds, one futon and one day bed. Beach towels, boogie boards, and some beach toys are included. There are many public beaches located nearby if you want the bigger waves.

Laie is a quiet country town but convenient to Foodland (closed on Sunday), Tamura's (local market open 7-days a week that sells alcohol), and Long's Drug Store. In Laie there is a clean and friendly shopping center with fast food choices such as McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway and even a small movie theater! The nearby town of Kahuku is famous for its many fun food trucks.

Simply walk across the street to the Polynesian Cultural Center. PCC is one of Oahu's favorite tourist stops, made famous by its fabulous luau and evening show. The free Hukilau Marketplace, with Pounder's Restaurant, several food trucks, live Hawaiian music, and convenient shopping, is great fun too. We are located just 10 minutes from Turtle Bay Resort and a 20-minute drive to Kualoa Ranch.

No need to fight the crowds in Waikiki or other parts of the island, Bathtub Beach offers the ultimate in tranquility on the North Shore.

Sorry, no weddings, private parties, or outdoor camping are allowed on the property.

This property was listed on VRBO in Dec. 2012.

Perfect house, in the perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 9 days here and had the time of our lives! the house is just as shown in the listing. Everything you need is provided in the house right down to fishing and snorkeling gear. The kitchen is well stocked with all of the things you will need. The views from the lanai or the living room are superb and the beds are comfortable and the furnishings are perfect for being located on the beach. The beach is even better than the listing shows, as close to a private beach as you could dream of, we had it all to ourselves most of the time. The bathtub area is great for anybody, by is especially great for children or us older folks who have a hard time in the surf. Swimming and beach combing were absolutely great, and there is a large grassy yard to play in as well. The over sized lanai is where most of our time was spent and it is beautiful with ample seating, enough for 8 people I believe. The steps down to the beach are quite nice as well, the fact that the hand railings go all the way down into the sand makes them great for anyone who might have a little trouble navigation the stairs or for children. If we decide to return to Oahu we will definitely check to see if this property is available! (the only reason I say If, is because our next trip will likely be to another island.) We even had an accident occur while we were there and one of the lanai door screens was damaged (by the way, we are so sorry for that) and the property management was very fair and understanding about it. The property is located in the perfect location for those who wish to visit the Polynesian cultural center, which is a must do while visiting the area. It is in an almost rural area, but close to everything you will need, from groceries, drug stores, to the great food trucks. They are all within a 5-10 minute drive and the farmers markets were great and the were just a little further away. Again thank you for the way the property is equipped with everything we needed, made for the best trip ever!!!

THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY on the North Shore!

  • 5 of 5

We loved every aspect of our stay here. We had our own private sliver of beach that truly helped us relax without needing to go to a beach elsewhere. We fell asleep to sound of the waves each night. We loved the central location -- especially being across the street from the Polynesian Cultural Center! A/C works well. The condition of the property is good. Access to the property is easy. The owner/manager was very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend! Thank you!

Awesome place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Great communication with the Manager Lata, who was always there when we needed her. The property is absolutely beautiful. You had everything you needed at hand. Waking up every morning to the sound of crashing waves is awesome. Hubby did a bit of fishing right at our door step, so it was fresh fish on the menu lol. So nice to come home to relax after a day of sight seeing and of course shopping. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to just chill and enjoy Hawaii. Mahalo nui loa :)

Great quiet spot on the beach

  • 5 of 5

This was a very roomy house, with great views, and a wonderful beach for us and our 3 year old daughter. Our vacation was in October, and it was a little blustery while we were there, but during low tide, the bathtub beach was good for our little one. We were right across the street from the Polynesian Cultural Center, which was way more interesting and fun than i had expected. Though we weren't a fan of the food at the Pounders restaurant next door. Better to head to local food trucks and shrimp shacks for top notch eats.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed the Polynesian Cultural Center, and I agree, the Kahuku food trucks down the street are a lot more fun and interesting than Pounders Restaurant. The tides are constantly changing but it's always beautiful. Glad you always found time for safe swimming with your little one. Thank you for staying with us at Bathtub Beach.

Wonderful home for a relaxing stay in Hawaii!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time in Laie at Bathtub Beach. The home was clean with plenty of room for our family of 6 to spread out and enjoy each other's company without feeling crowded. We really appreciated having beach towels and many beach toys available for our use while we were there. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for our stay. We hit Costco after landing in Honolulu and got everything else we needed from Foodland nearby. Beautiful sunrises out on the patio, dinners overlooking the ocean, it just doesn't get any better than this!! The neighbors were so kind as well. We enjoyed chatting with them down on the beach and someone even rolled the trash can to the street during the week for us.

My only advice for other families staying around this time of year (I don't know if it changes throughout the year or possibly just based on the tide calendar): in the mornings the waves were quite strong and there really was no sand to hang out on. By afternoon, the waves were much calmer and more "bathtub-like" and it was very enjoyable for us to play down at the beach with our kiddos (ages 10, 7, 4, 2). So, we typically spent mornings doing activities or excursions around the island and then came back to the house for the afternoons and evenings to enjoy a lovely beach right in our backyard. Because our youngest still takes afternoon naps, having a house right on the beach made our trip so much easier as he was able to nap in the afternoon while the rest of us continued to enjoy the beautiful beach. Also, make sure you bring a bottle of vinegar if you head to any beaches that don't have a lifeguard!! Our 7-year-old got stung by a Portuguese man-o-war at another beach farther up the north shore and we had nothing on hand. It was brutal. Lesson learned... a bottle of vinegar went with us everywhere after that!

Thank you Lata for a magical week in Hawaii for our family. We had several friends text us asking for details of the home so they could reserve it as well and we will definitely stay here again. Mahalo!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for staying at our home. I'm happy you enjoyed your visit (except for your son being stung by a man-o-war at another beach.) It makes me happy to share our place with a family that loved an appreciated a truly Hawaiian experience away from the crowds. Our neighbors are incredible people too. We hope to see you again!

About Lata Sua

My husband I have lived in Alaska for the past 36 years. Business, and the desire for warm weather, brought us to Oahu 20 years ago. Since we first arrived we have met so many wonderful people who welcomed us with the true spirit of Aloha. After years of living part-time in Hononlulu we purchased this home in 2006 because of its gorgeous setting on the tranquil waters of Bathtub Beach. We still visit our island home throughout the year and always leave with a renewed sense of peace.

Why Lata Sua chose Laie

As owners and frequent visitors to this beach house, we maintain it as our own home. Once you enter the gate you are in your own private paradise. You will find this well-maintained island home a perfect spot for your Hawaii vacation.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the beauty and tranquility of Bathtub Beach. The reef-protected beach makes for a quality Hawaiian vacation experience. Swimming is safe right in front of our home regardless of the season. The home required extensive remodeling which was completed in 2009. We love staying in quiet Laie during our frequent visits to Oahu. We are continually awed by the view as we walk in the private gate and are transported away from all worries. This is how we believe your vacation should be too. Laie is a quiet and safe place in which to visit. The local Foodland (closed on Sunday) is clean and friendly. Tamura's Market and Long's Drugstore in Hau'ula are so close too. Tamura's has a great selection of wine and spirits.

The Polynesian Cultural Center and the new Hukilau Marketplace are located directly across the street from us. At PCC you can enjoy an authentic day-long Polynesian adventure capped off with their famous luau and evening show. The Hukilau Marketplace is a free and fun place to shop, eat, and listen to live local Hawaiian music. Pounder's Restaurant is a beautiful new restaurant and there are several local food trucks for a quick bite to eat -- all just a walk across the street. You can rent stand-up paddle boards and kayaks at North Shore Explorers and carry them back to Bathtub Beach -- it's that convenient!

Kualoa Ranch, a 20-minute drive from here, is a fantastic place to tour the movie locations from Lost and Jurassic Park, as well as enjoy a horseback or catamaran ride. Turtle Bay Resort is a 10-minute drive. The resort boasts world class golf and a relaxing spa. The North Shore has many shrimp trucks which are fun to try. Be sure to visit Kahuku Farms for simple farm to table freshness and a tour of their farmland. Of course winter brings the giant waves to areas outside Bathtub Beach. You can drive to watch the professional surfers near Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and Bonzai Pipeline. No trip to the North Shore is complete without a stop in historic Hale'iwa. You can always take the one-hour drive to Waikiki, but honestly, why would leave this place when you have your own paradise right here at Bathtub Beach?
