The cottages have been created round the courtyard of the beautiful 19th Century red sandstone steading which has recently undergone a total renovation programme. Each cottage has been rebuilt to the highest standards of convenience and comfort while retaining the character and features of the old buildings. In addition to the landscaped courtyard with its large communal games room, each cottage has access to an outdoor patio with views out over the woods and fields.
Each cottage is furnished and equipped to the highest standard with a large living area and wooden floors, a modern fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a living area with comfortable sofa beds and armchairs. All windows are double glazed with full length curtains or blinds and all are equipped with Sky TV, DVD/CD player and wifi. Each unit has a separate central heating system with ample supplies of hot water for the luxuriously fitted bathrooms and showers. There is a shared laundry and drying room with facilities for ironing.
Andrew and Marguerite Dewar Durie bought this estate when Andrew moved to Scotland to run a large Whisky Company based in Dumbarton . His Family originally came from Fife and Andrew is the Chief of the Duries. He is also a member of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.
If you are interested to trace back your ancestry, this is where you should base yourself.
Marguerite is Austrian and is an Interior Designer. She has planned and designed the beautiful cottages.

Finnich Malise Estate had been little cared for for many years and presented a major and exciting challenge to us when we bought it. First priority was to repair and re-decorate the beautiful Georgian house and then to start recovering the parkland with its 200 year old trees. A separate project was to completely re build the derelict 19th century Steading buildings and convert them into 4 holiday cottages.
The projects continue with the recent planting of 9 ha of mixed Scottish woodland.
The uniqueness of the Finnich Malise estate which was evident to us when we first saw it, was its location. Close enough to Glasgow and Stirling but positioned in its own 200 acres of grounds to give total peace and tranquillity, with stunning views to the western North over the National Park and with easy access to Loch Lomond , 5 miles away.
Excellent central location.
Cottage extremely comfortable. Very much at home.
Estate walks great for our two rough collies especially first thing in mornings and late evenings.
Staff all very friendly and helpful.
We will be returning to Rowan Cottage.
We strongly recommend Finnich Cottages.

It was my second stay in three years (and I simply couldn´t come back last year to stay at the Finnich cottages because the location was sold out at that time). And of course: I will be back next year (fingers crossed)....
It is a truely beautiful place to stretch your legs. The cottages are fully equipped and even if you feel that something might be missing you can always ask the owners. They are very helpful and charming.
The surroundings are gorgeous (with the stunning views, the wonderful gardens, etc.).
I recommended the place to many of my friends already and to every reader of these lines: please visit.
It is a good point to explore the Scottish nature.
Oak Cottage surpassed expectations. It was very well equipped and finished to a high standard. We loved all the art work. The setting was fantastic - very tranquil and lots of birdsong. The terrace was a bonus and the culinary herbs a nice touch. There was lots to do in the surrounding area and we went for lots of great walks with the dogs.We would definitely visit again and will recommend Finnich Cottages to others.

A warm welcome by the owners of this beautiful property was a great start to our short break, which Marguerite arranged for my wife and I at very short notice. The website although accurate in all respects did not do justice to actually being there and experiencing what the property and surrounding area had to offer. A must for travellers regardless of mode of transport as there is so much to see and do.
The information pack is extremely informative and sets the scene for planning activities or just exploring on your own.
We would certainly recommend Finnich cottages to family and friends as the saying goes "What you see is what you get, amd more!"
Looking forward to a return visit.
Our recent holiday in the Loch Lomond area was made complete by the excellent accomodation in the beautiful Rowan cottage. The cottage was equipped to the highest standard. It was modern, clean and exceptionally comfortable. The setting was idylic and very central for touring the surrounding areas. For those who wish to eat in, supplies were easily accessible and for those who prefer to be treated, nearby Drymen was a haven of fine eateries. Marguerite and Andrew could not have been more welcoming and helpful. It truly was a home from home.

My wife and I along with our small dog spent a very enjoyable week at Rowan Cottage, facilities were first class as was the quality of the interior and layout of the cottage. The courtyard setting added an extra dimension of space in which to enjoy the morning sun and the clear evening skies. The surrounding land provided woodland walks, field and mountain views and glimpses of deer, hares, rabbits and squirrels along with a large variety of birds.
We found the location to be ideal for visiting nearby Loch Lomond`s east and west side towns and many attractions eg ; Balloch, Luss, Callender, etc. Andrew and Marguerite made us feel very welcome and were most helpful with suggestions regarding places to visit and dine locally.
Our only reluctance in writing this review is that too many people will discover this holiday haven as we hope to return many times.
Finnich Steading cottages are perfectly placed for visitors to explore some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. The Loch Lomond National Park provides a huge range of outdoor activities including water sports, hiking and biking. The famous West Highalnd Way passes through the charming village of Drymen a short distance away. Riding, golf on a variety of courses and fishing on the river Endrick can all be arranged nearby. The local area provides a range of friendly pubs and small restaurants, art galleries, a range of shops, and an excellent medical centre.
Glengoyne Distillery is only 3 miles away and caters for visitors seven days a week. Alternatively visitors may just want to relax in the peaceful surroundings and enjoy the woodlands and countryside of the estate and the many walking paths close by. The cottages are perfect for family holidays. Children will love the freedom the grounds provide and pets are welcome if warning is given in advance.
Other Activities: Boating of all types on Loch Lomond; Walking, West Highalnd Way 4 miles
