Overview

About the property

Cottage is a studio, Carriage House a one bedroom with private deck.

We have TWO RENTAL options available on this property:

SPRINGFIELD ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT AND DECK : (SEE NOTES in the RATES section)

The upper story of our carriage house, The Springfield, is a home we created for ourselves while we renovated the main house on the property. It is sophisticated yet warm and cozy at the same time. You will enjoy your privacy inside or on the deck, and can look out at the beautiful trees which surround the property. It will be your oasis in which to relax from the outside world, yet only a 5 minute walk (on level ground) to the center of Mill Valley. If you feel more adventurous, you can explore the majestic nature of Cascade Canyon or Mt. Tam which begins just down the block.

The apartment is composed of a living room, open kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with glass-tiled European shower which is beautifully lit by a diffused glass window in the shower, and a deck off the bedroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed, feathertop mattress, and the linens are 'second to none'. It is outfitted with wireless internet and a modern AV system which includes digital cable, flat screen TV, and DVD/CD player. The kitchen has a gas stove, large refrigerator, Nespresso coffee system. Parking is always available right in front of the house.

GARDEN COTTAGE STUDIO (lower cost):

Nestled into a lush, beautifully designed garden, flanked by cherry trees and a majestic fig tree, this garden cottage is the quintessential Mill Valley retreat for a visit to this gorgeous area. The front of the cottage features a cute porch that faces the garden. Inside, 'center stage' you will find an incredibly comfortable queen size bed with fabulous European sheeting. The carrera marble bathroom has a glass enclosed European (Hans Grohe) shower and its window faces the fig tree, just renovated to include the new heated marble floor, too. The kitchen area is small but well appointed with a large refrigerator, a four burner gas stove, and sink. You will also find a coffee machine for your morning java and a microwave for a quick meal. And there is a fabulous fire place perfect for cooler evenings curled up with a book.

A cute round mirror-topped bistro table with two chairs sits in front of a window facing the garden.

There are of course WiFi and cable TV.

Snuggled into the yummy sheets and surrounded by nature you might have your best sleep ever.

Contact us to find the best option for your stay!

Shorter stays than 3 nights are possible, please inquire.

About Joel Rosenberg

We've lived on both coasts (NY and CA) and have been back in the San Francisco area for quite some time now. Mill Valley is a treasure but we love to travel (Europe, Asia and South America) to take in different cultures, meet people, and experience the local food, music, art, architecture and nature. This is a special location from which to explore the trails of Marin County or to drive a short distance to San Francisco, Berkeley or Napa Valley...and if you need suggestions don't hesitate to ask.

Why Joel Rosenberg chose San Francisco Bay Area

This is one of Mill Valley's most unique properties with perhaps the best location possible. You can enjoy a lush garden filled with roses, dahlias, rhododendrons, camellias, and succulents that is screened by beautiful mature trees and still gets lots of direct sun. You will love being so close to downtown Mill Valley or the hiking trails, without being in the middle of it all.

What makes this apartment unique

When you approach this property the first thing you notice is that while very conveniently located close to the center of Mill Valley, it has unusual privacy due to the lush landscaped gardens that surround the Cottage, Carriage House and our home. You're also just a few steps from the Dipsea stairs or other trails in Cascade Canyon. But, unlike Cascade Canyon, you can enjoy sunshine here because the majestic redwood trees are also just a few steps away from our property. We have taken our time over the past 8 years to meticulously renovate, decorate and landscape for comfort, beauty and enjoyment.

Beautiful setting inside and out, within walking distance to Mill Valley!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in the cottage as our central point for the Dipsea Race. The only thing that made us sad was that both my husband and I wished we could've stayed longer in this adorable hideaway! Joel and his wife were super friendly and left us to enjoy their cottage, balcony and the area. The cottage is nicely and uniquely furnished. The bed is so comfortable...the bathroom shower was beautiful (and water pressure amazing!) The fresh flowers, wine and refreshments was a nice touch and made us feel even more welcome. It was a short walk to the downtown Mill Valley area. We lucked out on finding this place and are so glad we did! We only wished we could've stayed longer. I highly recommend this place and we hope to return one day!

Owner's Response: We so enjoyed hosting Erin and her husband for their visit to Mill Valley and the Dipsea Race. They stayed in our larger one bedroom apartment, which is the Carriage House...and it is very comfortable. And we're glad you enjoyed the amenities which we like to provide for all our guests. Thanks for staying and we hope to see you return again. Warm regards, Joel and Jane

The Ultimate Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the wonderful property

of Joel and Jane Rosenberg in Mill Valley, CA.

The first time we stayed 2 weeks and this time only

1 week. There are so many reasons to recommend

this ideal apartment at 8 Laurel St. but certainly number 1 would be to meet the fabulous Rosenbergs.

They are charming people who make every effort to make life for their guests accommodating and memorable.

The apartment is ideal for 2, beautifully furnished and comfortable for an extended stay. Mill Valley’s downtown is in walking distance with interesting shops and many intriguing restaurants. The apartment is surrounded by huge redwoods and beautiful homes in a strictly residential area. Jane’s large garden is available for guests who enjoy floral beauty and quiet time lounging with a good book.

My wife and I look forward to our next opportunity to spend time at the Rosenberg’s for it offers supreme vacation pleasure.

Loved our stay in Mill Valley

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently enjoyed a last-minute few-days escape to Mill Valley from our nearby home in San Francisco. We've visited Mill Valley before, but never stayed there. We booked the larger of Joel's two units, and enjoyed it enormously! The location is outstanding, giving us access with a few block's walk to downtown Mill Valley's restaurants--and coffee and browsing at the Depot Cafe and bookstore. In the other direction, adjacent Old Mill Park gave us access to trails to Cascade Falls, and the longer Dipsea Trail which we followed to Muir Woods. We haven't used VRBO a lot, but I have to say in our experience, Joel probably ranks as the most gracious host we've encountered! Even though we didn't avail ourselves of everything, the goodies Joel provides his guests are a much appreciated and thoughtful touch! We recommend Joel's accommodations highly to anyone seeking a quiet respite in Mill Valley!

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure to host Peter and his wife for their getaway to Mill Valley. We always try to make sure that our accommodations exceed our guests' expectations and it helped to have our garden in full bloom with our fig tree amazing figs each day. We're happy that you enjoyed the prime location of the property and took advantage of walking and hiking, rather than driving everywhere. We love to host returning guests, so please consider visiting Mill Valley in the future. Thank you Peter for being a perfect guest. Joel and Jane

Superior Experience

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in Joel's smaller studio unit as it was just me heading to Mill Valley. I took the Marin Airporter to the Manzanita drop around 10:30 at night. Due to flooding, uber and cabs were not picking up in the area. Joel offered to pick me up and drove through the flood water. He literally saved the day! I was panicked and scared and he literally made sure I got to the destination safely. Upon arrival, Joel made sure I had everything I needed in the studio. The place was simply lovely. The bed was amazingly comfortable and I slept for the full night for the first time in 10 years! Waking up, the yard was beautifully kept and smelled like heaven. It was quiet, delightful and very clean. The water pressure in the shower was incredible! I honestly didn't want to leave! If I ever get the chance, I will visit this place again for leisure!

Owner's Response: Meagon booked our Garden Cottage Studio on pretty short notice in advance of a scheduled business conference nearby. She arrived at the Mill Valley Airporter Drop point pretty late, I think it was about 9:30 pm which can be a difficult time to get a taxi or Uber. But the situation became more complicated due to the high tides in that area which I'm sure caused additional stress to an already late arrival and early business conference the next morning...so I did offered to drive over and pick Meagon up. It's not something I do for every visiting guest, but we want our guests to be comfortable and more than satisfied with their stay here. Perhaps that's why so many return again. Thank you Meagon!

Chuck & Judy, Ann Arbor, MI

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the Carriage House. It was well prepared and nicely appointed, to create a comfortable casual feel. The provision of wine, cheese and artisanal bread was welcoming. The unit included a nice sitting area, kitchen with small table, bedroom and private deck. The grounds were well tended. The privacy was very good with the unit separate from the house. All communications and check in went smoothly. The location is excellent, easy walking to downtown Mill Valley and many pathways. Street parking was always conveniently available. We certainly hope to return.
