The Upper deck has bamboo rails and a bamboo roof, bar fridge, also a sun deck with lounge chairs. a table that seats 6 is under the covered area for those who like to dine outside. The cabin sleeps 5 (in a pinch 6) and has all bamboo flooring, thatched ceilings and a tropical feel. The bedroom has a *king size bed, or 2 twins and has dressing area with a vessel sink. It's in the forward area of the boat so has ample privacy. The main salon has a day bed, flat screen and chair. The bathroom has a shower and working "boat" toilet, the kind you pump to flush and a vessel sink. Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had not had a real vacation in...too many years to mention. We've done the Key West vaca. before, and were honestly looking for a quiet getaway. We found that with the Big Bamboo. We left the resort, where the boat is docked, only a few times because the best part of our vacation was just enjoying the view from our own private sun deck, on top of the boat. The boat is tied up at one end of a dock. You have a boat to your right-but the owner doesn't stay in it year round. And a small beach to your left. Most guests of the resort use the other (main) beach, which has the launch for the free kayak and SUPs. Even if a guest made their way to the beach near the boat, there are palm trees in view and you don't feel like you are on a stage. Because the resort has only a handful of cabins, and not all docked boats are rentals, I imagine that unless someone has hired the resort for a wedding, the peace and quiet we experienced is the norm. This is exactly what we were looking for. My husband and I already live in FL and we didn't want a touristy vacation. It was so nice to just pack up our clothes and personal care items, and leave everything else behind. That's because the boat was stocked with everything you need. Kitchen items, beach and shower towels, bedding-everything. We came down with the bare minimum, then went to the nearest grocery store after we arrived. We dined out only once, and that was a nice walk away to Mrs. Mac's Kitchen. We highly recommend the conch fritters and key lime pie. Abby, the boat owner, is very accommodating. This trip was a surprise 40th birthday for my husband. He knew we were going to Key Largo, but didn't know that I had rented this house boat in a resort. I had mailed Abby a 40th birthday banner to hang from the boat, prior to our arrival, and she was kind enough to do that for me. Many of our friends and family enjoyed viewing the photos of the boat and resort, which I posted on Facebook. They said it looked better than they could have imagined. And some have already asked me to send them the lodging details. Lastly, my husband commented that he had a very comfortable sleep in the king size bed.

Better Than We Imagined! Vacationing at its best!

  • 5 of 5

Hard to know where to begin... The Big Bamboo is full of charm, comfortable, ideally located and fun for our small family of 2 adults, 1 teenager and 2 small dogs. As mentioned in previous reviews, it *is* a boat so you must be comfortable with steps and maneuvering but we found that to be part of the adventure! The boat was extremely clean, all the furniture was comfortable (especially the king bed!) and we had all we needed for cooking, making drinks and spending the days outdoors.

Abby was gracious, helpful and the perfect hostess! Murphy, her dog, was also a charmer!

The Big Bamboo is tucked into a small resort called Dream Bay. We had no idea that there would be such a fantastic feeling of community and we feel like we truly made new friends!! (we miss you Mark!) From other vacationers to the year-round locals, everyone was welcoming and relaxed. How can you not be when you're in paradise?

The beach with tiki huts, kayaks, hammocks, paddleboards and lounge chairs was perfect!! Very well maintained and clean. Same can be said for the bath house.

We were delighted by the array of fish we saw when we snorkeled right from the beach! Not to mention the manatees in the marina! We appreciated how dog-friendly the community is and the convenience of pick-up bags and well placed, but non-obtrusive, trash cans.

I could go on and on but in summary: If you want a unique vacation that is relaxing, entertaining, and special, you will find it on The Big Bamboo in Key Largo.

Thanks Abby!

Nice place to stay in Key Largo

  • 4 of 5

The accomodation was good, the bed was really comfortable. The boat had everything you needed for a holiday.

All the neighbours were really friendly and all made you feel so welcome. Abby was a great host and nothing seemed too much trouble.

The boat is in a brilliant location for all the local bars and restaurants.

If the weather had not been so miserable we would have had an excellent stay.

Best Sleep In Years Aboard Big Bamboo!

  • 5 of 5

I recently returned from spending 8 nights aboard Big Bamboo and I miss both the boat and the community in which it is docked. Big Bamboo is spacious and charming. I haven't slept as well in many years as I did in the cozy master cabin with the gentle waves lightly slapping against the hull. The community is very safe and beautifully maintained. We even had front row seats (the top deck) of a beachside wedding and reception one night. Abby is a great host and did everything possible to make our stay wonderful! Had such a fabulous time that I am planning a return trip in late January and will try one Abby's other boats Little Bamboo.

Lil Bamboo is awesome

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time staying on the Lil Bamboo. It was clean, comfortable and exactly what we expected. The quiet and privacy was wonderful and Abigail was very friendly. We really liked the fact that we could cook our own meals and the BBQ available on the beach was perfect. There are many stores nearby and we had everything we needed for a perfect few days in the sun.

Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and will definitely go back. The Big Bamboo is exactly as presented…. She is decorated in a bamboo theme giving it a great island feel. It was clean and everything fully functional and comfortable.

The location was perfect. We brought a small boat with us and were able to keep it at the same marina. The area is very safe and secure so we had no worries with anything. Having a galley allowed us to have breakfast on the boat and pack a lunch for a day of boating. Most nights we walked to a local restaurant after having watched the sunset from the top deck of the Big Bamboo. There are several tasty places within walking distance, any many more within a very short drive.

We did choose to utilize the public showers on site rather than the one on the boat. Certainly not because it didn’t function… it was just our personal preference.

Having had our own boat with us, we never took the time to use the kayak and paddle boards that were made available. There is beach area on property with lounge chairs and hammocks, as well as a nice seating area with plenty of shade. We used the gas grill on property one evening to cook out and enjoyed a nice dinner on the top deck of the boat.

Best to remember… if you are looking at this listing you are interested in staying on a BOAT…. Not a suite at the Ritz Carlton. As boats go, this one is very comfortable, well equipped and in a great location. We would highly recommend it!

All in all, a great experience and we look forward to a return trip! Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise with us Abby!!

In the interest of full disclosure… as mentioned in the rental listing… you do need to be able to be a bit agile to handle the multiple levels.

Key Largo is the dive capital of the world, the and sport fishing capital as well. The 'Big Bamboo' is Located in a privately owned and operated marina and vacation rental property, it is not allowed to leave the dock however. During your stay, the use of a paddle board and kayak are provided. There is a bathhouse 20 ft from the beach area, a propane grill, washer and dryer, and tiki huts and palms line the waterfront. The best sunsets in the keys can be enjoyed on our jetty, as well as fishing and star gazing. An eclectic and friendly group of keys residents/ boaters welcome visitors , and will help with any questions you may have. Truly a great keys experience, unpretentious and relaxing. Please note the availability on the calender is not always correct.
