We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The time spent outdoors around the fire, listening to the waves, watching the sunset over the lake, were priceless. Everything was setup with our comfort in mind, allowing us to fully relax & enjoy our vacation. We loved the views & the amazing privacy. Pat has taken great care with this property to make sure you have a fantastic, carefree vacation! We felt truly Blessed to be there!
This little gem is perfect for a stay in Door County. It is a simple little cottage but has all the things we needed for our first week long vacation as a family of 3 in September with our 8 month old. We did a lot of eating-in and the kitchen was well stocked, lots of clean towels for bathing, (the bathtub was a big plus with the baby in tow!) and the bed and couches were comfortable. The location is breathtaking and really the selling point for this place, we loved watching the sun set in the back yard as a family then putting the little one to bed and enjoying a glass (*bottle*) of wine from one of the nearby wineries, sitting around the little campfire listening to the water. It feels very private, nestled among the trees, although there are houses on either side, I think. I loved seeing the waves change with the weather; the day we got there it was stormy and the waves were so big they were crashing over the rocks and spraying the sitting area, but by the next morning there was a gentile lapping wave and you could (*carefully!*) walk onto the big rocks and sit there to enjoy watching the water. The day we left, the water in the bay was so calm it was dead silent except for a little fishing boat paddling along and a sailboat in the distance. Basically every room in the house has a view of the water which we loved as well. The location is also ideal for those traveling from the Chicago area, it's between Sturgeon Bay & Egg Harbor, only about a 10 minute drive to each, (with a nice fruit winery and the friendliest candle shop down the road in Carlsville on your way!) so it saves you overall drive time not having to make an extra hour trip to the tip of Door County. Again, shaving drive time off was ideal with a baby onboard. My only criticism would be that, being right on the water, there were some lake flies here and there, (not a bother to me, I'm used to it, growing up in the cornfields of IL,) and the humidity inside the cottage is a little strong. There is a dehumidifier that collected some water when we turned it on but didn't seem like it did too much so we didn't run it often, and the towels never really felt 100% dry when hanging, but again, you're staying on a lake and it's a cottage, not a mansion like some you see driving down the road, so just keep your expectations in check. It's for sure a step up from a cabin or camping and I really don't think the photos on the website do it justice. We would stay there again, 5/5! Thanks Pat!
Our family of 5 and two little dogs had a fun filled vacation in Door County. There is so much to do and this cottage was close to everything. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the cottage, it's a bit bigger than it looks in the pictures. This cottage is clean, and comfortable and has that reminiscent Wisconsin family vacation feel. The best part of this property is the view! The rocky shore line is fantastic and the sunset on the water is gorgeous! This cottage was the perfect home base for our adventurous days of exploring the peninsula.
We had a wonderful week stay in this cute cottage. Pat called me the day before our arrival to answer any questions I might have had. Our family has spent many vacations up in door county, but this is our first time to rent. We loved the sunset and camp fire right on the water. We brought our paddle board and kayak and we had lots of fun swimming off the shore. The house was small, cute and cozy. There was one window air conditioning unit in a bedroom upstairs and we used 2 floor fans that were provided to cool down in the evening. We would actually give 4.5 stars if that was an option. The only small issue I had was there was no laundry facilities. However, Pat told us ahead of time that there was no washer/dryer so we were prepared for the week with enough clothes. It would have been nice to use for our beach towels but we managed just fine. Also, In another review, someone mentioned having allergies so we were a little worried ahead of time but we had no problems during the whole week. Overall we had a great time and would recommend staying here again.
My husband and I stayed here mid-week in June, and loved it! Pat was incredibly good at communicating prior to and during our stay via phone and email, yet gave us lots of privacy. The setting is truly spectacular, with rocky shoreline and stellar sunset views each night. Each room has windows facing the water. At night, we'd open the upstairs window to hear the waves as we drifted off-- magical! It was a lovely getaway for two, although there was ample space for more. It is definitely an older cottage, with all of the quirks and charms of an older structure, which may make it a little difficult for those with severe allergies- mine acted up just a little while we were there. However, I'd highly recommend booking this cottage for anyone wanting a beautiful private retreat to come back to after a day exploring Door County!
My husband and I spent a wonderful week at this lovely cottage just north of Sturgeon Bay. The view of the Bay was so gorgeous - so many of the windows face the water. The cottage was lovely - large modern bath, 2 bedrooms upstairs - one with a huge comfy bed and the other with 2 twin beds. And, yes, we had wi-fi! Plus we were able to bring our dog, Lily, who had a blast. It didn't hurt that we had perfect weather. We highly recommend this cottage for a quiet getaway - we never heard or saw our neighbors and we felt like we were in the middle of a forest.
Firewood is available at Birmingham's General Store and also at roadside stands on Bayshore Drive. Please, please do not bring firewood into Door County.
