I grew up in Wichita Kansas but had my 2nd and 3rd birthday living here in Hawaii, so I always felt that I came home to my roots. I also have a home in town, Hawaii Kai and frequent back and forth to keep a good eye on my favorite house here on the wind ward side of north shore.
Patty purchased this House in 2004
Why Patty chose Hauula
We wanted the real Hawaii not so many visitors and getting to know what really living in Hawaii is all about here in Hauula. I furnish everything from Paper Towels, TP, Laundry Soap, dish soap,, dishwasher soap! This is the best deal on the North Shore!
What makes this House unique
Across the street from the ocean. Less than 50 steps to water and sand. Occasionally you will find sea shells in the front yard or a spray from the ocean breeze! You can actually wade out in front of this house to the reef. 'Once in a Life Time' (there is a small opening to the ocean/beach directly in front of the house but you have to find it) Just the cost of renting surf boards and kayaks will more than pay for your stay! I furnish everything you need for your vacation.

Little piece of Paradise!!!
This was the first time we went through VRBO and I was a little nervous at first but it turned out so much better than I could have dreamed of, I was a little worried also that we would be so far away from everything. We Loved the place my kids 21,12,and 9 Loved the place when we first walked in , it was decorated so cute and FUN!! It had everything anyone could have ever wanted or needed. they had surf boards and boogie boards and even bungee cords to tie them down to your car, There were coolers and beach chairs ,beach towels and umbrellas and lots of snorkeling gear. There was plenty of beds for us all to sleep comfortably. The washing machine was a big plus also!! if you wanted to cook at the house she looked like she had everything you would need . We only ate breakfast there as we had too much to see !! But it was nice having a fridge and toaster!! As being to far from everything I never felt we were that far we went to Pearl Harbor and the Aloha swap meet. and I never felt like it was that far. I loved being out of the big city. It is so BEAUTIFUL up in that area and peaceful. We were so close to some of the most beautiful beaches and hikes !! We were like 10 minutes from the PCC and Waimea Beach and pounders Beach a definitely must go too!! We were just a few minutes from a grocery store which was also so convenient. We were close to Teds bakery where we got amazing butter buns and corn bread!! And their haupiia pie is a must try!! And even though it is on the main road it wasn't bad the 2 A/C units drowned out any sound at night and in the morning. The only problem we had was that a week was not enough to see everything on this Beautiful island. We will definitely be back and for sure will be staying at this little piece of heaven!! We definitely caught the ALOHA spirit!! Thanks for letting us rent your Darling house!!
After reading your wonderful review, all I can say is you make me want to want to move back in and live me life there. Thank you, Patty
Comfortable and just as advertised.
Great little house on the north shore. Nothing fancy but very comfortable as a jump off point for exploring that side of the island. Well furnished. We have small kids and there was not really any safe usable outdoor space (front lawn is lush but used for parking and very close to busy road). Washer and dryer is convenient but be prepared with quarters. Overall no complaints, though!
Decent location, cute place,
Cute place in a convenient location along the main roadway. Don’t expect beachfront, while it is across the street from the water, it’s not the prettiest view as you have a fence and cement barriers in the way but at least it’s there! You have to drive to the beach just a few blocks down the road as there is no water access at this location but that was fine. We did enjoy the use of the kayaks, boogie boards and snorkeling gear so that was a nice amenity. The window A/C in the front part of the house seemed to be on its last legs and never really functioned well so if we ran it the house was hot and muggy and if we left the windows open it was cooler but lots of highway noise and the neighbors house is so close you can literally hear when they start their shower in the morning. My only minor complaint is the owner’s less than speedy response time throughout the whole process...from booking...payment....and even while at the cottage when the oven wouldn’t bake at a temp beyond 375 and I still haven’t heard back from letting her know about the A/C. Most owners I’ve dealt with respond within an hour usually sooner, Patty was usually several hours to even day a couple days at times. She was very nice but the lag in response was frustrating at times. Would I stay here again? Yes as it was a great value and the location worked well for us since we spent a majority of our time in the North Shore, but I do think some improvements should be made such as the A/C and quicker response time.
Dear Party of 5,
After reading your review I wanted to return the favor as soon as possible. Some people are just not satisfied with anything. I counted twenty some emails prior to their arrival. Everything from A-Z. Then wears plunger…how do I get the stove turned on…and then the air conditioning. Then they addressed the highway, the neighbors, things that I do not have control over. Let’s see the beach. I’m not sure what they are talking about. it is just across the street. There is not only an opening for the public but definite access. They said something a fence and scrubs…in their way. It’s Hawaii. If you want it like it is at home, then stay home. Their only real complaint in my opinion was the AC. Had they said something on day one, we would have had it replaced while they were here. Now, $150 a night divided by 5 people is $30.00 a night. That’s a great deal! Did you enjoy the kayaks, surf boards, boogie boards, life jackets, snap in chair for the kayaks and 27 pairs of snorkel gear and fins. Let's see that alone would cost over $200
Cute Beach Shack
We loved the beautifully decorated beach shack! We were a family of 3 adults and one child and had plenty of room. Unfortunately the weather during the week we were there (March 3-9) was windy and rainy. We knew that it was a possibility on the east side, but it was very beautiful. You are off a main road, but with the windows closed it didn't seem that bad. One thing to keep in mind, if you are renting here and are in need of the washer and dryer, it is coin operated. I didn't mind, but have never had to use a coin operated machines with our other VRBO rentals. Possibly because they were outside on the porch. Also it would be helpful if there were extra garbage bags available other than the one. All in all, it was very nice and we truly enjoyed our stay here. Very close proximity to the North Shore as well!
Cute beach house!
We stayed the first two weeks of February. It’s the rainy season In Hawaii and it did rain...a lot! The house is very cozy and well appointed. We enjoyed happy hour on the back porch even when it was raining. Got one perfect beach day with the kayak. We toured the north and east sides of the island an this was a good base to tour from..
My husband and I spent a week there and we were disappointed. We read the reviews before we booked, what showed was all positive...maybe we were in the wrong place? As soon as we got there she informed us that the dryer was broke and that we didn't go there to do laundry. We were spending two weeks in Hawaii and definitely needed a dryer. There were sugar ants on the kitchen counter and around the bathroom door. We talked to Patty about it and she wanted us to go find a store and buy something to kill them. We never got hot water to shower, barely lukewarm. We let her know, she told us to check the electric water heater which my husband did and still no hot water. The tub filled up to our ankles while we were trying to get the warm to hot water. To each thing that was wrong her excuse was "that's Hawaii". I disagree. Our second week at a different place was perfect. Now on her behalf the dryer was replaced the day before we left, with my husband hooking it up. Plus side she did have a surf board, beach chairs, etc. Patty was nice though, I'll give her that. We were not happy, bottom line!
First, i immediately addressed the broken dryer only hours before their arrival upon coming in to clean up the house after the previous occupants left that morning. I bought brand new washer/dryer to be delivered asap in stock. They didn’t even use it after all. The only warm water as they defined, was warm or not hot enough but not scalding so I replaced it with another hot water heater. Checking the breakers are normal first step. The slow draining tub was due to hair trapped inside the drain I flushed out the system an addressed all complaints of nightmare guest. The ants can only be caused by leaving food out. There was bug spray under the sink but they must have noy checked to see if there was any, and I offered to reimburse them if they desired more if they wished to purchase some before i could get out to them. Unfortunately one can ruin it for all and I will have to re-instate a deposit. If it was all that bad, they could have gone up the street to a hotel. I apologize for asking them to help hook up dryer after they offered their assistance. Everything has been addressed and fixed.
Polynesian Cultural Center is less than 2 miles away; Lot's of things to do in this area. Good local food nearby; The Mormon Temple about 3 miles up the street in Laie Turtle Bay 15 min. Pipeline & Sunset about 20 min.
