Cozy and clean

  • 5 of 5

Nicely stocked, clean, comfortable and cute unit that is very close to many good places to eat and very easy to get to the Pike Market from. Adorable backyard too, with plants and urban chickens.

Clean Cute and Cozy!

  • 5 of 5

I had a emergency work trip and had to find a quick and close-to-downtown location. I emailed Gea and she responded within 10 minutes and arranged me to get in the unit that night. The unit is very clean and is cozy. Nice new furnishings. Very easy access to downtown Seattle with a bus stop on the same block. Will certainly come back if the unit is open next time I am around.

Owner's Response: This was a very difficult guest. One that did damage, brought in un-approved guests and then lied about our unit demanding a refund. I have been renting this unit for over 5 years and have never experienced anyone nearly as awful as this guest. Her stay started with her rudely banging on our *neighbors* door. I got a call from our neighbor asking us if it was possible that an "angry VRBO guest" could be yelling on her porch (neighbor was about to call the police). Since this had never ever happened before, I assumed no way. But to be safe, I called the client and found out, yes, it was them. The guest couldn't figure out how to get to our house (our instructions are the same as always and very descriptive; our other guests never experience confusion). Instead of calling or messaging me, she was swearing threats on our neighbor's porch. After getting in, the guest texted me and asked for the wi-fi code (it was in the house instructions as well) so I texted it over to her. She was still having trouble so I explained to her how to enter the password into her phone. It then worked. Then before checking out, the guest messaged me and told me that her "Grandchildren had been staying at the unit with her" (she didn't indicate that or ask for extra guests at the time of booking) and she said that she thinks that "one of them lost her tablet". She asked me to look for it when the unit was cleaned. So I let our cleaners know that there could be a lost tablet in the unit and to look for it. I should mention, we have had the same cleaners for 5 years as well and have never ever had an issue of theft. So the claim that our cleaners stole the tablet is insane ESPECIALLY SINCE WE FOUND THE TABLET IN THE COUCH! Our cleaners did find the tablet! And once it was found, I emailed the client and asked her for her address to let her know I would mail it back to her. She didn't respond. So I emailed her again. Finally, about a month later, she messaged me with an address. At which point, I mailed it back to her (at my expense). As if this wasn't enough, the unit was left filthy. Grease and food everywhere. We had to have our couch steam cleaned to prepare for the next guest. This guest cost us more than what we made from the booking and was a horrible experience.

Sunny bungalow

The location was great. The parking made it really convenient to come and go. We had plenty of space for the three of us staying there.

Clean but I had some issues

  • 2 of 5

As stated the driveway is very steep and not easy to get out of, as it lets out right onto a busy highway. I favored the street parking on the next street up. Because it is on a busy street, it's very loud. The bedroom has a sound machine that helps, but if you are in the living room, no such luck. Advertised in the listing, was a microwave, pots and pans, and a coffee maker. When we arrived none were on the premise. When emailed, the owner never responded. A man called later and said he would bring them by. By the time we got in contact and figured out the situation, it was the night before we left the rental. Needless to say, we never used any of the things that were brought in. The rental is supposed to sleep 4, we arranged for three. There were no sheets on the pull out couch. In fact, there are no extra sheets in the rental. On a positive, there were plenty of towels. The bathroom needs some renovations, but over all the rental was clean. I would not stay here again, but because it was clean, I gave it two stars.

Owner's Response: Dear Mary, We are so sorry about the timing of the problems on your stay. It was a strange thing that both our coffee maker and microwave quit working during your stay. As soon as you notified us, I immediately went out to purchase new ones and put them in the unit. However, this was also the day you were checking out. I apologize again; I did do my best to fix the issues. As for the noise level, this unit is very close to downtown. We do not find the noise to be too high, but again, we are used to urban living. Take care - Gea

Stay was ok

  • 2 of 5

Our stay was just ok. We had stayed at another property in Queen Anne several times(owners sold)--it was comparable in price but more comfortable, cleaner, had better amenities and super view. We suggest the owners could invest in a shower head, bed linens, single cup coffeemaker, cable tv with more options and basic furniture so you don't mind hanging in the living room. Most of these changes wouldn't require a significant cost.

Owner's Response: Dear Jock, thank you for the suggestions on things to add to the unit. We have purchased another coffee maker and also new linens and another chair for the living room. Take care - Gea

About Gea

Gea is originally from Ohio and moved to Seattle in 2004. This is Gea's only rental property in Seattle. Gea lives just outside of the city proper with her two cats, four chickens and pretty darn big organic garden.

Gea purchased this house in 2011

Why Gea chose Fremont

Location, location, location!

What makes this house unique

Many of the lovely families that stay with us email us (after their stay) with great things to say! - especially because of the location (only 5 blocks from the Seattle Zoo) and food across the street/coffee shops only 5 blocks West of the house (all walking distance). The home is on Aurora Ave N - which is a main road in Seattle (and one of the perks of the location). This is an urban environment, not a rural location, however, so keep that in mind! Our home is 1.5 miles from Pike Place Market (and downtown Seattle). The home also has free private driveway parking and double pane windows. The studio area of the home - which is 450sqft - has been fully remodeled with brand new floors, paint - and all new furniture (in January of 2013). All of our furniture is Crate and Barrel furniture; we focus on 'clean, simple, and comfortable' for the feel of our home. We have opted toward a contemporary (rather than thrift store decorated) decorating style.
