About the property

Welcome to the Tower House at Agate Beach. A landmark on the South End of Lopez Island.

This custom built three bedroom, two and a half bath home features a three story observation tower from which you will enjoy gorgeous views of the boats in MacKaye Harbor to the North, stunning sunsets over the twinkling lights of Victoria to the West and the Olympic Peninsula across the Staits of Juan De Fuca.

We have stayed in many vacation rentals ourselves and know what we have liked and what we have loved. So at the Tower House we have distilled all the positives into one relaxing, romantic, and fun place. Plush beds in clean comfortable rooms and a well appointed kitchen with a door leading to a seasonal organic herb and vegetable garden for your dining pleasure. This house offers plenty of soft seating in an open floor plan. For a little quiet time you may choose to lounge in the reading room or sip wine in the leather armchairs up in the tower. You will find lots of indoor and outdoor games, puzzles and books for all ages. On the decks there are plenty of chairs, flowers and a gas BBQ. We have covered storage for your bikes and kayaks too.

Our unique location between two picturesque bays offers varied opportunities for beach combing shells, building driftwood houses, watching shore birds, eagles, owls, otters, seals, tide pools, and so much more! We are a short walk to the dramatic headlands of Iceberg Point where you can spot anything from whales to native cactus growing along the bluffs (we get a fraction of the rain Seattle does.) Your shared private Agate Beach is just across the road and the boat launch is near by for fantastic fishing.

You will find several hikes and picnic destinations just a bike ride away, as well as the South End General Store and Restaurant that can supply you with a great selection of local produce and products, and has a world class selection of wine and beers.

Visit in the sweater season to enjoy the in-floor heat and the thrilling storms (we get seaweed in the yard)

all at off season rates.

Come stay, relax and create life long memories. You are welcome here at the Tower House.

About The Owner

We started building the Tower House in 1996 and finish a few years later. We have loved and continue to love our wonderful home. We moved to San Juan Island for our daughter's education and hope in time to move back to the Tower House.

Why The Owner chose Lopez Island

We purchased this piece of land because it was such an amazing property. The views, the wild life. It also is close to my husbands parents, and we wanted our daughter to be close to her grandparents.

What makes this house unique

With the Straits of Juan de Fuca on one side and the protected MacKaye Harbor on the other side we feel we have the best of both views.

Even better than the pics (and the pics are great!)

My family rented the Tower House for weekend away. My husband and i had rented on Lopez before but within the village. We were all 6 scootering onto the island and we were a smidge concerned about how far away from the village this house was but man, it turned out to be perfection. It was fantastic being so far out in the country and within a quick walk to hike at Iceberg Point. We had brought some food with us and the kitchen at the house was so nice (and had everything we needed) that we ended up doing all our food prep (for picnics) and meals in there and it was awesome. Now for the house - it was so cool. One of my favorite parts about renting a house is not only a cool location but a very nicely designed/decorated house and this house didn't disappoint. We absolutely loved the mix of antiques with contemporary design. The bathrooms were all really nice and the beds were phenom. All the windows and the super cool tower also made you very cognizant of where you were and prompted even more walks than usual. The area that this house is in is so quiet and lovely and worked great for our scootering adventures. We went all over the island and were closest to our favorite spots (Iceberg & Watmough Bay). if you're scootering, there is a nice little shed with a carport type thing that we were able to put the scooters in overnight (as it was a little rainy) and plenty of space for any gear you have. Beautiful yard and garden and deck... we all were just smitten kitten with everything and took advantage of everything in the house except for the tv because why would you??? :) Kirstie was absolutely excellent at accommodating us and answering my endless questions prior to, during and after. We'll DEFINITELY rent this place again! Loved it and HIGHLY recommend it! Lopez is our favorite island (the island and its residents are so lovely - hard to articulate) and I just cannot say enough great things about it, the Tower House and Kirstie. love!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home and we really enjoyed our stay. Everything is as good as it looks and the house is so comfortable and inviting. The only thing lacking is an unobstructed view of the ocean from the deck. The sitting area in the tower is a great place for morning coffee to watch the sun come up. Kirstie is a great hostess.

A wonderful respite

  • 5 of 5

What an incredible weekend. From the moment we landed on Lopez Island, it was just such a lovely breath of fresh air. The weather shined on us the entire time and made for wonderful memories and relaxation time that was sorely needed. This house is just simply amazing. The rooms are tastefully decorated and warm and inviting. The kitchen is fully set up with every amenity you could possibly need. There is a deck with chairs to lounge in and enjoy your favorite cocktail. The yard is beautiful and maintained exceptionally and the walks are great whatever direction you want to take. Don't hesitate in renting this incredible location. You will not be disappointed. Honestly, already planning my next trip there. Thank you so much to the owners for their care and commitment to making this a real destination place.

Beautiful, soulful home

  • 5 of 5

It was my great pleasure to stay at the Tower House this past weekend, and I couldn't be happier. It was exactly as shown in the photographs - even better in many ways! The house was immaculately clean, well appointed, and totally comfortable. The owner has obviously put a lot of care and attention into making sure that everything is just right, and we were all so happy and content there. The rooms are large and private, the kitchen is a joy to cook in, and the house just felt magical. On top of all that, the owner took time and care to make sure that we were well oriented and provided lots of info so we could enjoy the island to the fullest. I can't wait to return.

Lake Forest Park, WA

Slice of Lopezian Paradise

My family and I had the good fortune to vacation at the Tower House last summer. What an absolute delight! Kirstie is the vacation rental owner of your dreams and has thought of everything from heated floors to her kitchen garden, and has done so meticulously.

We couldn't have felt more at home. In fact, we just booked again for this summer because our young children kept pleading to return.

Don't let this secret fall into the wrong hands. If you don't love and respect the San Juan Islands for its peaceful, quiet nature, this is NOT the place for you!

Tower a House at Agate Beach

  • 5 of 5

This house is awesome, especially for two couples traveling together, as the two bedrooms are on separate floors. We liked the location near Agate Beach, and also loved being near Iceberg Point. The house is lovely inside with everything you need! Kirstie was very responsive to our emails and very welcoming at our arrival. We will return for sure!
