About the property

Home sleeps 6 adults and 4 children with ocean views and walk to beach

Rockend is a one-of-a-kind property located at the end of a private driveway in the quiet, woodsy area of South Rockport with stunning, direct views of the Atlantic Ocean and Thatcher Island, home of the Twin Lights. Ocean air, peace-and-quiet and easy walk to the beach make it an ideal place to vacation. It is less than 2 miles to Downtown Rockport which includes beautiful Bearskin Neck, historic Dock Square, jewelry shops, antique shops, clothing shops, restaurants and, most especially, the Shalin Liu Performance Center. The Rockport to Boston MBTA train station is also less than 2 miles from Rockend, with Boston being an hour train ride away.

The property was updated and gained a new, large addition in 2012. It sleeps up to 6 adults and up to 4 children comfortably.

The main house is loaded with Old World New England Charm. Exposed brick, granite walls and hardwood floors provide lovely accents. The first level of the main house contains a renovated kitchen with gleaming granite counters, newer oak cabinets and updated appliances. The modern bathroom contains a corner shower. A large dining room with interior grill area opens onto a sunroom, which leads to a deck with ocean views. The living room has a large bay window, also with water views. The second floor of the main house has 3 bedrooms (1 king bed, 1 queen and 1 twin) and another full bathroom (tub/shower combo). The third floor contains 2 bedrooms (3 twin beds) and a brand new full bathroom (tub/ shower combo).

The new addition to the property is connected to the main house through a utility room with a full laundry. It includes hardwood floors and designer-chosen paint colors. There is air-conditioning on the first and third floors of the addition. Ocean breezes envelope the entire property constantly. The first floor consists of a beautifully-furnished den, large bedroom (1 queen bed) and large bathroom. This bathroom boasts double sinks, a 6-foot jetted tub, glassed-in shower and top-of-the-line finishes. The second floor consists of a new granite kitchen with high-end appliances and large dining area (6 chairs and 4 island stools), and a powder room. The ocean and Thatcher Island can be viewed from almost every window and there is a deck off of the eating area. The third floor, boasting the most dramatic views of all, is a large sitting room with powder room. There is a granite wet-bar with a beverage fridge. A large sliding glass door leads to a spectacular ocean-view sitting deck.

Rockend includes off-street parking for 3 cars. Small dogs are permitted with owner's prior approval.

Fabulous Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Thehouse was fabulous in every aspect for our family/friends gettogether for my husband's 60th. The house is fully stocked, tastefully decorated throughout. The old half is chamring. Steep stairs to most of the bedrooms were no probelm for our guests. The new-half master suite is gorgeous, and is a ground floor bedroom should anyone need that. View from every room. While the new-half kitchen is great, we used the old-half kitchen as the dining/sitting areas there seemed just more comfortable, with no stairs. Made for easy dinners and brunch serving. The location is great for family walks and is very private. We enjoyed every moment, and hope to rent again for the same folks, to get us all together again. Excellent rental, very clean, very well provisioned, very easy rental process.

This house is awsome!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a family gathering from Oct. 22-27, 2015. The pictures do not do it justice. The views are incredible and we loved everything about it. I highly recommend this rental! Communication was great too!

Wonderful time at Rockend

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent two fantastic weeks at Rockend, and the home suited us perfectly, as we have a large extended family. The kitchens are ideal: one for breakfasts in the older portion of the house, and the more modern kitchen for lunches and dinners upstairs. Everything we could have needed was provided. The quiet location was also much appreciated. We plan to be back next summer, hoping to add a third week to our stay.

The perfect house for our family!!

  • 5 of 5

My family came out to the East coast from the Seattle area for a family wedding at the Crane Mansion in Ipswich. The house was perfect for us. We were four couples plus a two older children. We walked down to the beaches and around the area a bit, but mostly explored Rockport and Gloucester (and then the wedding events). The house is very well appointed and we could have prepared a feast, but we ate out and enjoyed the local lobster menus! Everything we could have needed was there for us. We had a fabulous week. Thank you!

Awesome house for large family

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 10 stayed here just this past week and had an absolutely wonderful time! We made use of each and every room and took in all the views from every level all week long. Yes, lots of stair climbing, but it meant I only gained 5 lbs while on vacation, not 10! lol We ate all meals in the newer updated addition kitchen, which had everything you could ask for to cook up any type of meal. We didn't lack for any amenity at all. We put a puzzle together in the Old World charm sunroom and gathered in the adjoining living room to watch tv, read and converse. It is a short walk to a beach area but we spent nearly three days heading into downtown Rockport to shop and eat. We went on a whale watch and were thrilled with all the activity by three whales. The guys took a fishing charter trip one day and brought home what they caught to be cooked up for dinner. Yummy! John Hammond Museum was a surprise in itself! We loved it! The bedrooms provided enough space for everyone and we never lacked for hot water when all of us were getting ready at the same time. Our mornings were leisurely and warmed by the smell of coffee, the nights allowed us to take in the sound of the rolling waves and the views from every deck were delightful! We'd love to come back again some day to seek out more adventures! Thank you for opening this home to us for our vacation!

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful, unique home. A great blend of history and modern amenities. We used this house as wedding headquarters and it was perfect. Plentry of room to spread out and well stocked with glasses, plates, cooking equipment etc. The queen bed in the new addition is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Private setting with the most incredible views!!
