Comfortable, clean and roomy.
My family of 7 stayed here for 1 week. We were extremely pleased with this house. It was quite clean and roomy for us. We were able to walk to the beaches and downtown South Haven.
Great family property
Great vacation house
We have been staying here for 10 years. The house sleeps 8-10 adults comfortably and can accommodate extra kids or young teens in 2 large family rooms. It is very conveniently located, only 2-4 blocks from 3 beaches including north beach. It is also within walking distance of Phoenix St, the business and restaurant area. The owner is very helpful and has worked with us for minor problems that have come up.
Great place for a family vacation
This property was recommended to us by our neighbor who has also stayed here and was very pleased. We found the house to be all that we expected with a few extras that were a pleasant surprise! Everyone enjoyed the beach near by and the local beach shop 1/2 block away. We especially liked using the bikes for exploring the area. The owner was very accommodating when the WIFI went out ofter a storm. Lots of room for everyone to spread out. Nice kitchen for cooking for a crowd. Overall, a very nice experience.
Nightmare on Park Avenue
As a Christmas present to our three children and their families, we decided to rent a house in Michigan for a 3-day family weekend. We decided on this property mainly because of the fireplace. The first hint of what we had in store came the afternoon before we were to arrive. I received an e-mail that the owner was at the house "this week," discovered the fireplace was "not in working order," and it would not be repaired in time for our stay. After a 4-hour drive from home, my wife and I arrived on Thursday night. It wasn't until we unloaded the car, put away the groceries, and started to settle in that we discovered there was NO WATER from the faucets or showers. I phoned the owner, who assured me this had happened before and the city water department would take care of it. Well, the water department did send some people out, but after two hours they concluded there was a frozen line and they couldn't do anything about it. Around 9:30 p.m., the owner said he was sorry and would refund our money, which he eventually did. We ended up scrambling to find a hotel room for the night and notify our children that the weekend was off. We drove home the next morning. The owner would not even agree to pay for our hotel room. Before we left, we noticed: (1) one of the rooms advertised a having a queen bed actually had only 2 twins; (2) of the 3 televisions, one got only one station, one no stations at all, and the third many stations but all with terrible picture quality; (3) the cushions on the dining room chairs were torn and rotted; and (4) there was an old used coffee filter in the coffee maker. The owner absolved himself from any responsibility for our lost weekend by characterizing cold weather in Michigan in January as an unforeseeable act of God. According the water department, everyone else in the area had water. Considering we were told the owner had been there that week, a housekeeper had been in on Tuesday, and the pipes had frozen before, you would think someone would have checked to make sure the water was working.
The Polar Vortex of the winter 2013/2014 season was upon us – a nightmare indeed! With temperatures 18-20 degrees below normal average (the coldest in 20 years) and record nights below zero with wind chills in the double digits, it was absolutely a nightmare for the entire South Haven community. Unfortunately faced with such extreme winter weather – time was against us. Previous years the city of South Haven had used welders to help thaw frozen pipes in a matter of hours but after a house fire four years ago their practices have changed. It took digging up the front lawn and four days to thaw the waterline. Four days that the renters did not have. The fireplace was unfortunately not working correctly, and the heating companies were on non-functioning emergency call repairs only due to the extreme weather. Renter reviews and feedback are truly always welcome, providing us with a stepping stone to improve our home and offerings.
It is very unfortunate that our renters faced these inconveniences on their first stay in South Haven; we can only hope that they could give us a second chance to show our truly sunny disposition and shine through what may be our roughest winter in years.
