The Columbia River Gorge, with its mountains and rivers, offers the vacationer and recreation enthusiast the opportunity to windsurf, mountain bike, kayak, golf, ski, hike, fish, or just relax in the unhurried pace of a natural paradise. Historic buildings line the beautifully scenic streets of downtown Hood River, with a bustling shopping district featuring boutiques, designer shops, outdoor adventure gear outfitters, antique shops, art galleries and no less than 30 restaurants.

There are many orchards and vineyards in Hood River. The Hood River Valley is known for its luscious apples, pears, cherries, peaches and other fruits, and for the view of the majestic snowcapped peak of Mt. Hood. People from all over Oregon make an annual trek in the fall to the many farm stands to stock up on fresh apples and pears. Other produce is available, and varies by season. The award-winning Hood River Vineyards is located on a hillside overlooking the Hood River Valley. Their tasting room features traditional wines, and fruit liqueurs.

The Columbia River Gorge, with its magnificent views make this a dream spot for a destination wedding.

Wind surfing capital of the world is Hood River's latest distinction. The winds from the Columbia River Gorge, best during the middle of the day, create ideal conditions for riding the waves. To enjoy the view of "boardheads" at play, drive to the Columbia Gorge Sailpark or follow Second Street to the waterfront.

The Mt. Hood region and its more than sixty miles of forested mountains, 77 waterfalls and myriad lakes and streams are a rip-roaring mecca for outdoor adventure. The mountain is home to four ski areas and offers the country's only year-round skiing and snowboarding.

Sweet Retreat is, indeed, a "sweet retreat"!

6 senior ladies enjoyed our stay in this very nice, clean, spacious home. View is spectacular! Walked the stairs to town and back each day. Great!!

Couldn't have expected anything better!!

Bachelor party rental!

  • 5 of 5

Great place for a group of 9 for a bachelor party. The rental was walking distance (if you don't mind a long flight of stairs) from downtown's selection of local breweries.

The rental had plenty of space, lots of beds, and a large kitchen and living room area. Easy check in/check out.

Sweet Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Loved staying the weekend there.. Gorgeous views... It was very comfortable.. If I had anything negative to say, it needed more parking space because several of us had to travel separately..

Family Thanksgiving Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the house! The view from the front deck was gorgeous, even in late November. The house was also very cleaned and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware. However, there are a couple of things that I would like to call attention to: 1) the upstairs had no water pressure in the shower 2) the upstairs also never heated up although the downstairs was nice and toasty and 3) the upstairs toilets ran continuously. Overall, we did enjoy our stay. Thank-you for sharing your lovely home with us.

Late summer vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Sweet Retreat! The house was perfect for our group! We had a wedding in The Dells so made a full week vacation in Hood River (we traveled from the midwest and wanted to see as much as possible while in Oregon). Sweet Retreat is a perfect location. We walked down to the shopping/eating in Hood River....it is quite a climb back...but if the stairs are too much, a person could follow the road (not that much further but a little easier). We were also able to walk to Kite Beach. The house master bedroom has a great view of Kite Beach and a deck right off the master....often others from our group came upstairs and visited while taking in the great view. The set up of the house is awesome....We all had privacy (plenty of bedrooms) and still had an area big enough for us all to gather (open plan kitchen dining living room). There is plenty of seating. The kitchen set up is user friendly....we ate most of our meals out, but did do one night where we grilled and fixed a family style dinner. We found everything we needed to prepare a meal! The laundry room upstairs is very convenient....and we were able to keep plenty of clean towels on rotation!

Great Space

  • 5 of 5

With accommodations for 11, this proved to be a great location for a large crew of Mountain Bikers. With Post Canyon and Syncline within a 15 minute drive, and downtown restaurants and grocery stores mere minutes away, the place couldn't get any better (except for a Hot tub!). And the view? Great place!
