A complete kitchen is set up for all your culinary needs, and linens and towels are also provided. There is a view to the River from every room in the cottage except the bathrooms. I have been an active outdoors person all my life. I enjoy gardening, hikes, animal watching and many more outdoor activities.
Richard purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Richard chose Traverse City
This property is one of the best in the area with many outdoor activities. Close to Traverse City and many tourist hot spots it can't be beat!
What makes this Cottage unique
I purchased this vacant property in 2005 and camped on it for 2 years on and off to get a feel for the land before I built on it. I believe the location of the cottage and its surrounding land makes it a great vacation spot for all.

Outdoor Adventure within reach of it all!
Our family has been coming up to Traverse City and the surrounding Grand Traverse area for a long while now...summer, fall and winter. We added a new tradition of spending the Thanksgiving holiday up there four years ago, this year included. Having stayed at the neighboring resorts previously, our children and our ambitions to be outdoors (any season) had us looking for the perfect property to rent instead. One with great amenities, a modern cabin feel, access to outdoor adventure, proximity to Traverse City and a price that reflects our expectations. There was not one box left unchecked at the end of our stay...we had a blast taking advantage of all this property had to offer. The Boardman River as your front yard afforded a beautiful view, late fall fishing and a couple explorations. The elevation around the house provided for multiple sledding hills and the hot tub out back was perfect to thaw out in after. We managed to hit a couple stunning trail heads just a few minute drive down the road and got into town multiple times spending no more than 15mins in the car one way.
Everything about the stay was great, including the owner Richard, who obviously cares a great deal about the property and those that are there to enjoy it. Can't wait to stay here again soon!
Seclusion and relatation
Just want we needed for a weekend away. What a view. It was quiet and relaxing. The owner was very responsive answering any questions. Would definitely return.
Beautiful and secluded
Great property and location. Richard was very cool. Would recommend to everyone.
Gorgeous house/property in a perfect location!
Great house and the property location is perfect - 10-20 mins away from everything but you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere! :) Owner is awesome and close to answer any questions. Great weekend getaway with family. Kitchen was properly stocked with everything you need to cook. Very clean. Really enjoyed our October long weekend stay.
Idyllic and peaceful
The Boardman River Cottage property and home are beautiful. The setting is private and peaceful with fishing, kayaking, campfires and a hot tub right outside your door.....yet only10-15 minutes from shopping, amenities and Traverse City.
The home is very comfortable with plenty of space to be together, but offers enough room for all to have their own space.
We were in town for a wedding, so we look forward to coming back to take full advantage of everything this property has to offer.
Richard is a great host and we look forward to another visit!
Wine Country rustic getaway
Took my wife and another couple here for a birthday wine weekend getaway. The house has great amenities and plenty to do. Upstairs is all updated and had plenty of space and entertainment options for 2 late 30's couples. The upstairs bathroom is great and as many others have said the steam shower is a fantastic and relaxing option. We spent most of our days out and this house was situated in a great spot to allow us to do that. Within 5 minutes we could hit any necessity stops and many food options, particularly along M37. Within 10 or so minutes you are in the heart of downtown Traverse and all it has to offer. It was great after long days of winery touring followed by brewery touring to be able to come back to the secluded house and have the peacefulness of the wilderness and nearly no external lights or noise aside from the rambling river. Richard stopped by on our way out and was a great guy to talk with and catch up on our trip and future fishing options in the area. We had a great time and are already discussing options for a return trip next year.
Located on the beautiful Boardman River just min. away from historic downtown Traverse City. Many wonderful restaurants, wineries, golf courses, and shops just to name a few of the many things available to do and see in the area. Great boating and fishing, hiking and kayaking. We have the Cherry Festival in July, Horse show in July, Movie Festival after that and many, many events thru-out the spring, summer, and fall. And don't forget about the fall colors. There is no better place to see them than on the River! There is plenty of wildlife in the area, lots to do and see right in this beautiful cottages backyard! Enjoy a bonfire by the river and watch the night sky for northern lights and satelites!
