Spacious apartment in restored 1940's era house
Our spacious 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment occupies the entire second story of a restored stone house built in the 1940's. It offers a roomy, separate study, hardwood floors, loads of natural light and vintage charm.
You can rent the treetop suite to sleep 2, or you can combine it with one or both of the downstairs units to sleep a total of 4 or 6. To see the downstairs units, please enter their listing numbers in the VRBO search bar: 442385 (1 bedroom unit) and 423250 (studio).
All 3 units have clean, crisp linens, quality furnishings, and original art. Our WiFi connection is good, and the landscaped patios are a great place to enjoy the quiet of an established Austin neighborhood only five minutes from downtown or the SoCo district, and walking distance from the increasingly popular South Lamar ('SOLA') district.
We offer bikes for you to explore the many things to do near the house. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, check out the greenbelt along Barton Creek or Barton Springs Pool--each about a mile away. If you are looking for great food, you are just around the corner from the iconic Matt's El Rancho and the fabulous 'Restaurant Row' on Barton Springs Road. Walk to the ACL music festival or enjoy live outdoor summer theater at Zilker Park. Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Zilker Botanical Garden are beautiful places to explore and picnic. At the end of the day, dance to live country music at the locally-famous hole in the wall--the Broken Spoke. Or check out the HighBall retro bowling alley/karaoke bar and neighboring Alamo Drafthouse Cinema--uniquely Austin experiences.
If you want to venture outside the neighborhood, we're also close to the University of Texas and the Highland Lakes just west of town. We are happy to recommend things to do and places to see.

About Ann Giles
We are a husband and wife who love old houses. We were each restoring our own old house when we met in 1998. We now have 4 young children and have left our 'real jobs' behind to pursue restoring old houses full time. We're so thrilled to get to offer our homes to you through VRBO!
Ann Giles purchased this House in 1998
Why Ann Giles chose Zilker
Location and character. Close to downtown, yet nestled in a quiet, established neighborhood with mature trees and great opportunities to explore nature. A unique structure--beautiful natural stone and concrete block construction originally built as a carriage house but easily converted to unique rental apartments.
What makes this House unique
Original, natural building materials give the house character and soul. Clean and manicured outdoor areas extend the enjoyable space of the apartments. Clean and crisp linens and furnishings make for a relaxing and enjoyable retreat.

You're gonna fall in love with this house!
This place is ridiculously cute, and is located near everything we wanted to do in downtown Austin! The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet, with lots of trees, and it feels like home. Funny story ... while loading the car I left my big Yeti cup on the curb by accident for 8 or 10 hours while we were out and about, and it was sitting right where I set it down when we got back, so you know it's a safe spot with great neighbors.
It's the entire second story of a home, and is nestled in the tops of the trees outside, which allows lots of light through the abundance of windows in every room. It had the amenities we wanted for the weekend, the A/C works really well (a must-have in Texas), and it even gave my wife and I plenty of ideas for decorating our own home :) Be sure to pin your own hometown on their giant world map, it's impressive how many pins are there, showing their guests have traveled from all over the globe!
The owner was responsive and helpful, and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. I highly recommend staying here, but fair warning, you might not want to go back home!
Nice and secluded, yet perfect location!
Perfect location! We walked to places to eat! Zilker park is around the corner! So fun!
Clean and comfortable
A great location and receptive hosts! The suite was clean and comfortable, and we would stay here again, especially for shorter visits. My only "issue" with the property was its tiny bathroom, which is certainly just a function of an older home. It was workable to be sure, just not super convenient. We loved the decor and absolutely loved the neighborhood, with its unique homes and its friendly ambiance. Stay here, you'll like it!
Cozy and peaceful
Spacious and cozy place for two. Full size refrigerator and nice kitchen. Loved all the light and view of tree tops in the living/dining/kitchen area. The bonus room with large desk and upholstered chaise was a nice touch. Sorry there is so much to do in Austin. Was tempted to stay there all day reading a book! Peaceful and quiet. Immediate response from owners via email when we had a question. Will definitely stay there again.
Exactly as advertised!
This spot was perfect for our getaway to Austin! The unit was clean and quiet. Anne & Scott had a helpful list of things to see/do and places to eat. It is in a great location. Close to some great BBQ and our new favorite dance hall the Broken Spoke. We can't wait to come back. Chatted with Scott a couple of times during our stay and it was nice to know he was close by if we needed anything (we didn't)! Great place!! Thanks!
Very charming apartment with upscale features
This is a very clean & charming/upsale unit. It had everything we needed to cook and be comfortable during our stay. Good location for access to outdoor activities. Only drawback is the construction nextdoor-- early morning hammering and loud music.
We are only 5 minutes from downtown, yet nestled in the quiet of an established Austin neighborhood. We have bikes to explore all there is to see and do within just minutes of the house, including the Barton Creek greenbelt, Zilker Park (home to Barton Springs pool and various festivals and outdoor theater), excellent restaurants and shops, and local night spots like the Broken Spoke and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. In fact there is so much to see and do in our area that we have published a neighborhood guide for our guests.
