About the Property
2 Bedroom, 1.5 Bath Classic Uptown New Orleans Home, pet friendly, NON-SMOKING
The home is a classic New Orleans style home in a safe neighborhood, surrounded by safe neighborhoods. This is a more low-key, family-oriented section of New Orleans full of great restaurants, unique shops, and lots of charm. The house is a renovated early 1900's elevated frame house with side hall, hardwood floors, crown molding, plantation shutters, plaster walls, front porch, back deck/courtyard, washer/dryer, and central A/C and heat. The home has never flooded due to the area and elevation.
The front porch is the highlight of the home, allowing for people-watching while sipping coffee and nibbling beignets in the mornings. The living area is equipped with doors that can open into the first bedroom if desired or can remain closed if privacy is a concern. It's a perfect place for lounging while watching flat screen tv, visiting with family/friends, or checking emails. Wifi, cable (STARZ movie channel is included). The first bedroom is furnished with a comfortable sleigh bed and black-out curtains. The second bedroom has 2 comfortable antique twin beds with matching furniture. Separating them is a newly renovated full bathroom with shower/tub combination. The side hall leads to a spacious, updated, fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, pantry, dishwasher, island that seats 2, and washer/dryer. Off the kitchen is a dining area that seats 4. Just through the door out the back of the kitchen is a deck with a table and seating for 4. Down the stairs is a furnished courtyard, perfect for having a glass of wine before dinner on a cool evening.
For those ready to enjoy the outdoors, Audubon Park is a wonderful place to enjoy a bike ride or brisk early morning walk. A walk through the park will land you on St. Charles Avenue where you could catch the streetcar (please don't call it a trolley – you'll be identified as a tourist immediately) to the World War II museum area, French Quarter, Downtown, Superdome area, or Carrollton area. Palmer Park in the Carrollton area hosts an outdoor art market the last Saturday of every month. Just behind the zoo is the Mississippi River levee which is great for biking, walking, lounging, and people-watching. A short walk down Magazine will delight you with the offerings of unique shops, art, and restaurants.
Mardi Gras parade Thoth passes just a few doors down on the Sunday before Mardi Gras. It's a wonderful family-friendly way to enjoy Mardi Gras in New Orleans!!
Once you're ready to hit the town, the world is your oyster.

About the owner: My husband and I went to school in New Orleans and fell in love with the city. Although our jobs brought us to Baton Rouge, we maintained our attachment to the wonderful diversity and uniqueness of the city. We found that having a weekend home there allows us to get back to the city we love!
Why the Owner Chose Audubon/University District, New Orleans, LA, USA:
This property was perfect for us and our children. After much searching, we found this place on Magazine St right next to Audubon Park and Zoo with easy access to downtown and other areas. We hardly need a car when in town because there are wonderful restaurants and shops in walking distance. The neighborhood is safe and family-oriented, but is still full of interesting and fun things to do!
