Just up the hill from the village, this family home is surrounded by deck, gardens and wooded yard. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs sleep six easily. The fourth bedroom (sleeps two) and one bath are downstairs, with separate access; great for guests or teenagers. And living room couches are comfortable for friends "sleeping over" . Almost everyone lines up for an outdoor shower, especially after a day at the beach. The washer/dryer is close by on the lower level. The large western-facing deck is shady most of the day. The sunny south side deck facing the gardens is perfect for morning coffee. The cozy kitchen is well-stocked for whipping up great dinners (except there is no dishwasher). We cook most of the time on the charcoal grill; paella is a family favorite. Large living room with expandable dining table makes family gathering easy. Study with fireplace is good for quiet time. Plenty of beach toys and 4 bikes to fill days with local adventures, no car needed. Loads of books, puzzles, music CDs if you prefer to hang out around the house, and loads of books for every taste; but no TV. There is wi-fi for those who need an Internet fix.
Stroll to the Village Cafe for breakfast, head to the West Falmouth Market for provisions or sandwiches, and stop by Eulinda's for ice cream after the beach. West Falmouth village still feels old-fashioned. The Shining Sea bike path runs right through town, providing easy access to the great Sippewissett Marsh, to local beaches, to town, and to Woods Hole. Conservation land on the hill, local cranberry bogs and beach roads are great for walking or jogging. A ballfield, tennis courts and recently-renovated playground are just across the road from the house. We recommend riding lessons or trail rides at Fieldcrest Farm. Along W Falmouth Hwy there are farmstands and a great local fish market.
Famouth Center has a quaint main street with shops, restaurants, pubs, even a French bakery. Local musicians are always performing at one place or another. The library is a great resource for DVDs and of course books. Summer stock productions of Broadway shows take place at Highfield Theater. There is also a major shopping area a short drive away with supermarkets and chain drug store for stocking up.
Woods Hole is another village nearby great to hear music, try innovative or traditional restaurants, or check out local artists and craftspeople not to mention the world famous Woods Hole Oceanographic and Marine Biological Labs. An easy ride on the bike path or short drive. For other adventures, hop the ferry to Martha's Vineyard, drive to Sandwich for museums or continue down Cape to other nearby towns for antiques shopping.
