Car: Recommended

Our warm homely house is located on the Wild Atlantic Way, 200m from Linnanes Lobster Bar and 800m from the Russell Gallery. We are a 15 minute drive from the musical and lively town of Kinvara which, regardless of the time of year, is living in festival mode!

The beautiful and historic city of Galway is a 35 minutes drive and for those who do not wish to venture too far, the lights of this magical city can be viewed from across the bay in New Quay.

For those who are keen walkers, there are many local routes to be discovered. Surfers are only 1hour from the waves of Lahinch. Avid golfers are in their element with the World Renowned Lahinch, Doonbeg, Gort, and Galway Bay Golf Courses all within driving distance.

The peaceful village of New Quay is set on the coast of Galway Bay, overlooking the Aughinish Peninsula and submerged within the beautiful limestone landscape of the World-renowned Burren.

Linnanes pub and seafood restaurant is famous for it's locally produced organic food and Galway bay fresh fish, provided by the local fisherman Gerry. His wife Martina, also sells the fresh fish from a shop beside Linnanes, for those who are happy to cook at home!

The Russell Gallery and Teashop is a wonderful location to view works of art by local and international artists whilst enjoying a strong coffee or even a glass of prosecco and antipasta.

The Flaggy Shore, which inspired Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney to write 'Postscript', is a unique and stunning setting. The contrast of limestone flags, flora and fauna, located only in the Burren and Scandanavia, makes this a historic and magical area.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2000

About the owner: Seamus and Bernadette, having settled in the beautiful medieval city of Galway, were pleased to find this peaceful site on the seafront within a short distance of their home. Bernadette, retired Primary school head teacher, adores walking the Flaggy Shore which affords her time to birdwatch the wintering Brent geese, oystercatchers and curlews, while in the midst of farmers engaging in their seasonal work. Seamus, retired Director of Adult Education at NUI Galway, takes advantage of local fresh fish availability as cooking is his favourite hobby. Of course, the excellent pints served by Vincent in Linnane's Lobster Bar down the road, is greatly appreciated.

Why the Owner Chose New Quay, Co. Clare, Ireland:
This property, we feel, is in a perfect location. It was a dream come true for us to find a location which is situated on the edge of a beautiful farming countryside, on the waterfront with beautiful views and with access to wonderful entertainment and activities. Both Seamus and I come from a rural and farming background and have spent our working lives in our local city of Galway, so it was important to us to find a somewhere we could relax in our spare time. With the surreal Flaggy Shore only meters to the left, you can become one with nature. While for those more lively folk, Kinvara is renowned for it's music and festivals, and Galway city is only 40 minutes away for the keen historians and shoppers!

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The stunning location at the the edge of the Burren and overlooking Galway Bay is what had us fall in love with this home. The house is an ideal family base. The spacious garden facilitate BBQs, play or general relaxation. The gallery and upstairs area allow children to have free time away from parents who wish for peace and quiet.
