About Peter

We moved to the Blue Hill Pennisula for summers in 2003 to be in a rural coastal enviroment loving to hike, kayak, swim and to explore the coastal islands and area. Being outdoors as much as we can during the summer, gardening and enjoying family and friends is a rewarding way of living.

Peter purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Peter chose Acadia

Salt Pond Cottage is on a small Saltwater Farm over two hundreds year old. We built this new cottage on part of the property, closer to the water than the old farm house in a setting that is natural, changing daily with the tides with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We are close to the villages (5 miles) and are surrounded by blueberry fields, protected fields and wet lands and water.

What makes this cottage unique

Salt Pond is a wonderful body of water (about 5 miles long) to explore with kayaks or canoes, swimming at high tides, with little development on Salt Pond. There are lots of coastal and mountain hiking trails in the area. The cottage takes full advantage of the views and setting. We live in the old farm house (close by) to assist (if desired) to any of your needs or questions about the area.

You won't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

I just spent four weeks at Salt Pond Cottage and it was not long enough! The cottage itself is stunning and immaculate; it is truly a home, furnished with comfortable furniture, beautiful art, and everything you will need for your stay. The ever-changing but always constant beauty of the pond, the fields, the sky and the landscaping will feed your soul and invite you outside to explore and play. You can be quite satisfied in and around the cottage, but within just a few miles there are quaint villages, beautiful harbors, great restaurants, good bookstores, galleries, and lots of hiking/walking trails. And Acadia is just an hour away. Peter and Candice are gracious, generous and helpful hosts. Salt Pond Cottage is the BEST!

Peaceful and restorative

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Salt Pond in September 2014. We enjoyed the great location with proximity to Blue Hill and the artist community in Deer Island. We found the property to be exceptionally well-maintained and equipped for our stay. The owners take great pride in the property and keep things running like clockwork. We appreciated the quiet time and spent a good amount of it looking out over Salt Pond.

best vacation rental EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5

We've been staying at this beautiful cottage during one of the hottest weeks this summer. This property is meticulously taken care of and you feel at home from the moment you get out of the car. Peter and Candice are so heart-warming helpful and friendly, they provide a lot of information of what to do and where to go.

The house itself is the most beautiful, cleanest and best taken care of we've ever seen; appliances are stainless steel and high end. The whole architecture is unique and open.

The Bluehill area is beautiful and excellent also with kids just to find the right balance between activities and just relaxing.

We can 200% recommend this vacation rental!!!

Thanks Peter and Candice for a great week!!!

The very best!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a week's stay at this cottage. Everything was perfect; the interior was tastefully and appropriately decorated with high end kitchen appliances and comfortable beds! The open concept floor plan was so comfortable...we never wanted to leave! Salt Pond was a great place to kayak as long as you paid attention to the tides. We did, of course, leave the cottage to take day trips throughout the week. The cottage was so central to everything we wanted to do, so it made for a great home base. The owners, Peter and Candace, were welcoming and provided us with lots of suggestions re: restaurants and where to go, once they got a feel for what our interests were. I highly recommend this property. We have been renting VRBO properties for about 10 years and this is the nicest one we have rented.
