About Mary Spencer
We both loved the outdoors and especially fishing. We would take several trips each year specifically to enjoy our day(s) fishing. Typically this was in Florida, but we also liked Savannah, Chattanooga, Bahamas, and really anywhere that we could throw a line in. We only lived 90 minutes from Blue Ridge and Mary owned a company up there called Morning Breeze Cabin Rentals. Needless to say, we were heading in that directions on a very regular basis and finally decided to buy a cabin together on a lake, so we would have the best of both worlds...outdoors at its finest and fishing !
Mary Spencer purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Mary Spencer chose Ellijay
What's not to love about it!!! Mary was familiar with the Lakeview Escape when she owned another company up there and had her eye on it for several years. We spent quite a few weekends looking at dozens of cabins but she just kept saying, I think this one is going to come through. Sure enough, our realtor knew the original owners who was getting ready to sell it and before it hit the market, we got the option to make a bid on it. The Lake setting combined with the incredible mountain view are breath-taking. We roll out of bed in the mornings and sit out on the top deck with our cups of coffee and just take it all in. The location was also a plus, paved all the way and only 15 minutes to both the towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge. We do like the great outdoors but we also like the luxury of having some great shops and fine dining restaurants at our fingertips. This cabin was definitely the one for us. I hope anyone who has the opportunity to rent our cabin will enjoy it as much as we do. And if you catch a big fish, we want to see a picture :)

Great view, very quiet, and convenient to Ellijay and Blue Ridge.
Our stay was very relaxing and also had plenty of activity available within reasonable distance.
Thank you for letting us know about your recent stay. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed the cabin and and the location. We would love to have you back in the future.
...the property is showing its age with maintenance issues that should be taken care of if the home is to be continued to be listed as “luxury.” The photos on the listing are apparently old, as fire pit needs to be redefined and weeded & the accent lights on the stairs leading down to the lake are broken, which could lead to a serious liability issue for the property owners. The backdoor screening is ripped, dock needs a total rebuild along with the wooden bench that was eaten away by termites(?). Canoe launch is steep and dangerous, so as much as we wanted to canoe each day we were unable. Also be aware there is an overflow drain at edge of the lake that is constantly flowing to keep water level from flooding and sounds like a waterfall, which is nice. When you’re down at lake front instead of serene quiet, all you hear is the flow...it’s a matter of choice if you like that or not.
Kitchen was stocked with whatever you need to cook, but the toaster oven SERIOUSLY needs replacing, as does coffee maker. For whatever reason the shelves in the door of the fridge had NO fronts on them, cutting the storage space in fridge so much so that we had to use a cooler filled with ice to store some of the food we and our guests brought....seven days worth! Overall cleanliness was okay: blinds downstairs were very dusty, platform for swivel stools also extremely dusty and ledge of backsplash in kitchen was VERY dirty, as I cleaned it myself upon arrival. My husband re-repaired the first floor toilet to keep it from running...it had been repaired with a twisty tie.
Plenty of towels were provided and beds were super comfortable, though first floor bed made an awful lot of noise when turning over during the night. Hot tub was missing the pillow needed to fully lay back your head and relax. This is a NICE location and truly could be a five star property with some catch up maintenance $$ and then continuing to do a walk thru every quarter to note issues to take care of...and DO.
Finally, this Sisson development seems to be defunct, as the pavilion mentioned in the listing description was inaccessible because gate was locked all the time we were there. We spoke with a full time resident and he said it is always locked. There are many rental homes around the lake, so be prepared for noisy neighbors who have no regard for the serenity..thankfully the ones we had near us left after a couple of days.
We WOULD stay here again if the issues we mentioned were resolved.
Very nice getaway!
The cabin was very comfortable. Nice to have working wi-fi and TV. Enjoyed the lake & Mountain View’s. Also appreciated the paved roads. Would like to come back.
Debbie, thank you so much for letting us know about your stay at the Lakeview Escape. Definitely come back and stay with us agani.
Relaxing quiet visit
Rick and I were so happy to have a relaxing visit and we were able to bring our dog. We met some of the neighbors on our walks. Everyone was so friendly. We visited downtown and loved the antique shops. We also visited Odom, Paradise and Habersham wineries. Sherri at Odom winery was wonderful to visit with.
Rick and I were there for a week and feel we paid top dollar in comparison to other rentals. We mainly cooked all of our meals in. The frying pans and pots were tired but we managed. We were only left the bare minimum supplies, 3 packets of dish soap, 2 rolls of toilet paper (we had to go buy some).
Overall everything was clean and in good condition. I vacuumed before we left but I forgot to run dishwasher because I was rationing the last packet. Thank you for a nice visit. We would recommend our friends to stay here.
Karen, so sorry I missed your review. It sounds like you had a great time at the Lakeview Escape and enjoyed all the amenities. We have replaced the pots/pan for future guests, thanks for pointing it out. I will mention that we send out an email prior to arrival saying that we only leave out a started amount of Toilet paper, paper towels, soaps/shampoos and a few other things for the guests. It's similar to a renting a condo. Again, glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to seeing you again in the future
Property and lake house were beautiful!
The house has everything you need for your stay and the view of the lake from the back porches is simply amazing. We will definitely be back again, loved this place! Hiking trail is right on the property and is a beautiful walk around the lake. Great fishing right off the dock and perfect location with the fire pit.
Carrie, thank you so much for letting me know about your stay at the Lakeview Escape. It sounds like you truly enjoyed all of the amenities the cabin has to offer and I look forward to seeing you again in the future ~ Mary
My husband and I were celebrating our 20th
wedding anniversary along with his cousin and his wife were celebrating 10 years. We all decided to go away for a long weekend. We had a wonderful stay. The cabin was clean, cabin was easy to find, the the view was astounding. The weather was cold and rainy so We weren't able to enjoy the Canoe or dock. Hopefully next time
Melissa, thank you for the review of the Lakeview Escape. I am so sorry I missed responding to it but I am glad that you had a wonderful time on your anniversary....even with the rain. Definitely come back again so you can utilize the dock, canoe and hiking around the cabin :) ~ Mary
