Why Ken Youch chose La Conner
Our home is a one of a kind special place. It is as comfortable as it is beautiful. It’s like a fairy tale cottage only it is real. This is a place for cherished family memories to be made. Once you arrive you will never want to leave.
What makes this House unique
When my wife and I first found this place, it literally took less than fifteen seconds on the property before I was frantically calling the previous owner telling him that we would take it. One hundred and eighty degree view from just about every room. Wrap around porch. Stairs down to beach twenty five feet away. Sunsets every night. Eagles in the trees daily. Every thing you see out the window is either water or a State Park. When you arrive, you will see why I call it Paradise!

Gorgeous property, relaxing vibe
The house is beautiful - the pictures don’t do it justice. You could spend a week just sitting on the porch watching the water. My mother uses a walker and had no trouble getting down the path to the house. She couldn’t navigate the steps down to the beach but was very content experiencing the sights and sounds of the water from the porch. We had 2 kids who loved catching and holding the tiny crabs who live under every rock on the beach and chatting up the very friendly neighbors as they boated in from checking their crab pots or walked on the beach. Great grocery/produce store on the drive in (forgot the name, Snowgoose Produce? - the one with all the cars just 10 minutes off the highway) so we ate very well and enjoyed cooking in the beautiful Aga range -the first one I’ve seen in the U.S. You’re only 20 minutes from Deception Pass which has an easily walker/cane approachable beaches do beautiful views.
We hope to be back again!
Very charming water side cottage. The views from the large deck were magnificent. Plenty of room for four adults. We defiantly would stay here again!
Thanks again Ken!
The view is the best thing about this property.
When we 1st viewed the property on VRBO the listing said 9 people (it now reads 7). I contacted the owner and explained we had 11, 7 adults & 4 children. He said that would be fine.
This house is totally filled with stufffff. Toothbrushes & personal items in every room, shower full of shampoos & other personal items. The house is totally crammed with anitquey stuff everywhere. Nowhere to put anything of your own. When I was talking to owner by phone about where to deposit trash after the 2nd day I joked with him that his hoarder maiden aunts collected antiques and left them all to him along with the house. He didn't laugh...
Trash. Upon our arrival there was one garbage can from Waste Management about half full. Three occupied properties all owned by the same person but 1 garbage can from disposal company. Owner appeared to be confused about where we could put garbage and asked us to dig up some old cans to use from behind the garage amongst the brambles & weeds.
The listing says parking, parking is totally inadequate. The listing doesn't mention the owner's garage structure with an apartment above and a nice young couple with two cars where the parking is nor the owners other rental house on the property. Parking (very minimal at best) you still have to walk past the garage structure and through a yard area to reach the back of the house. This house IS NOT wheelchair friendly.
Stuff: Everywhere. Refrigerator full of condiments leaving little room for yours as was the freezer above. We used our own ice chests. Every cupboard, nook & cranny crammed with stuff. Drawers & closets locked. No room for guests' suitcases or any personal things you travel with. Antique collections filled all kitchen counter (limited space even if cleared) space as well as table space and any bedroom space.
No set area for yard area, it was all meshed together w adjoining properties. No proper sleeping area for large family, we used mostly air mattresses.
This home was clearly misrepresented. Should be listed for adults only and Guidelines provided. Guests should not have to guess and call him w/these questions. When we asked him where we should put our things he said his wife collected a lot of stuff. Just use what you want and move things around to suit. As a guest you want to use your own food and make your own meals. Owner should state need to bring ice chests, as no refrigerator use available. No toilet paper holders nor towel racks in baths. I could go on but won't.
Great little house with a spectacular view close to lots of activities. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay! Thank you!
Stunning house and location.
The house is decorated so beautifully with all the things you need to enjoy your stay. The owner is very helpful and curtious. The beach is so pretty with gorgeous sunsets. The beds are comfortable and from every window there is a gorgeous view. I have spent hours sitting on the wrap around deck taking it all in.
Thank you Courtney, I am glad you had a enjoyable time. It was really heart warming to see and hear your kids playing ball and having fun on the beach. My kids have grown, so now it is just grown up activities. We used to play baseball and the big steps and picture window was the back stop! Please come back soon!
My family and I spent three nights at this charming home. The views from the deck are just stunning. We are foodies and arrived with lots of supplies to cook some delicious meals. It was a good thing we brought a large coolor as there wasn't much room in the fridge, and no room in cupboards for staples. The cooktop is a little cantankerous but we got it figured out. The grill is quite old but works. No cereal size bowls at all. And yes - as others have said, would be great to have a few hooks or towel racks in the bathrooms, but I think this house is still being renovated.
The house is on a medium high bluff. The dock in front washed out but stairs were being set while we were there that go down to a little bulkhead/deck which is still about 6 feet up front the beach. There was a ladder you could drop down from the bulkhead to get to the beach. We had dogs with us so needed to walk three houses for access.
The area is lovely. La Cannor is a quick drive - and a must try is Anelia's Kitchen. European flair and really great basics. Relaxed atmosphere with music on the weekend. Blackrock Seafood is about 5 miles to the north of the house. A must for anyone who loves seafood. We had a clambake one night with delicious Dungeness, butter clams and prawns. Next night we picked up some halibut. All wonderful! Head to Anacortes for small town charm and a great lunch or dinner at Adrift or A'Town.
OK - sightseeing, if you have the day, pre-reserve a spot on the Anacortes ferry and head up to the San Juan Islands. Jumping off at Friday Harbor is probably the easiest. If you drove on, head across island to Roche Harbor. You won't be disappointed. Another fun drive is over the Deception Pass Bridge - stop and walk around - and then head down to the waterfront either at Rosario Beach or Deception Pass Beach.
Overall I would say this is really good place to stay. The owner, Ken, is responsive if you have any questions. He was very helpful in figuring out if the home would work for my step-dad who uses a walker. We did wind up using a wheelchair to get him from the car to the house as it was a fairly uneven surface. Lots of nice wicker chairs out on the porch gave him a great place to sit and absorb the view. (Oh - and the steamer chairs in the photos that I was really looking forward to weren't there. Bummed about that.) Really nice spot, just be prepared to wrangle for some territory in the kitchen. And you can't beat the location or the sunsets.
