Great good sized place for a larger group.
Awesome location and nicely maintained property. Steps from a nice quiet beach that was great for the family. Short drives if you're not battling traffic to lots of other beache, restaurants, and other amenities.
Fantastic Family Beach Vacation!
The family beach vacation is a tradition for us. Four generations: youngest age 4 - oldest age 75. We loved our week at "The Whaler"! The house is what you expect and want from a beach cottage. The rooms are decorated in beachy themes and comfortable. There is plenty of space for everyone. The outdoor spaces are perfect for eating out or just relaxing when not at the beach. Walking to the bay is just right over the dune and never crowded! It's a short bike ride into Lewes for restaurants or shopping or into Cape Henlopen State Park to go to the ocean. If not on a bike, the drive into both is easy. So much to do! Plenty of great restaurants and cute shops in Lewes. You never need to leave town if you don't want. The Caruso Family (owners) are extremely nice and helpful if needed! We would have loved to stay longer. Highly recommend!
Quiet & Cozy Time
Two families (4 parents, 6 kids ages 5-15) rented the Whaler for a week. Pros: a few houses from the bay, easy & safe neighborhood to walk & bike, few min drive to fish off the piers, to two Ice cream shoppes, and to town with more ice cream, restaurants, shoppes, a park, tennis courts, the marina, etc. Just lovely. The house sleeps 10...although a few of the rooms are just for that. We were there during a 100+ degree heatwave and prior to our arrival Richard had already installed additional stand up AC units. Very thoughtful. We also had a slight issue with the cable at 9pm one evening and he addressed it immediately. We felt as though if anything else came up they would be quick to address, very reassuring.
Cons: The backyard patio area needed a spring cleanup. And we wound up organizing the garage as soon as we got there so the kids could easily use the ping-pong table and stereo system. (it was already August so maybe many renters had been in and out and did not leave things as tidy as we would have liked?) The only other downside is that the kids would have liked to of been closer to the ocean with the waves. This is of no reflection to the house of course . Lewes has much to be desired and I am considering retiring there... definitely spend a day at the national park down the road and take advantage of the free bike rentals. For waves & Boardwalk fun head to Rehoboth about 30 mins away.
Had a whale of a time at "the Whaler"
Charming house and clean home that the owner tastefully decorated in whale theme. I stayed here for my daughters yearly Lacrosse tournament opposed to renting a hotel, I am so glad we did this as a home trumps a hotel anytime and is more enjoyable. For example the backyard had a swing, 2 firepits and 2 large tables for my girls to play games on. The owner also invested in a top notch weber grill which we appreciated. The owner put allot of thoughtful items throughout the house which I appreciated, such as a library of books, games, beach chairs. He was also a txt away when we had any questions, very pleasant to work with mellow with a relaxed style which coming from Fast paced Nj/ working in NY I appreciated . I would choose this owner, house again over a hotel anytime.
Outstanding Location, Comfortable Cottage
Ten of us -- six adults and four children ranging from 1 1/2 to 5 years -- had a great time. The cottage is in excellent shape, located in a quiet area and only a very short block from the beach. The owner was extremely responsible when we discovered the gas for the grill was gone.
Home was beautiful. Great location. Very close to the beach. Beautiful town. Quiet beach.
This adorable beach cottage is just 4 houses to Lewes Beach, and just a short bike or car ride to Cape Henlopen State Park and the Atlantic Ocean. Lewes Beach is just over the canal from quaint historic Lewes, with its fine dining, shopping and historic sites. Linens NOT provided
