4 Bedroom, 1 1/2 Bath, Renovated Farmhouse With A Big Private Backyard
Our old island farmhouse provides a peaceful, family retreat in a great location.
The house feels very private - there are no houses in sight from the back yard.
It is a bright, casual and simply decorated home. We love it!
We have an open floor plan downstairs for the kitchen, family room and dining area (with a table that seats 12) and doors to a new deck in the backyard. The kitchen has custom cabinets, cement counter tops with an eating/bar area. There is also a cozy, den with 2 couches and a TV/DVD setup. There is also a full-size washer and dryer and full bath off the kitchen.
Upstairs we have 4 bedrooms and a half bath. Two bedrooms have queen beds, one bedroom has bunk beds and the other bedroom has 2 twin beds.
The backyard is over half an acre with 5 old, oak trees providing lush shade. We also have large, private outdoor shower.

Our house is in a wonderful location. It is just a 10 minute walk to town and Old Harbor and the same distance to beautiful sites such as the Southeast Lighthouse and the Mohegan Bluffs.

About the owner: My dream of owning a house on Biock Island came true in 2011. My wife and I often say we have been looking for our own house on the island for 18 years. The island has been a special, favorite place for both of us since we starting going there as kids. We currently live in Concord, MA with our two kids (Margaret 14 and Christopher 12), and our chocolate lab, Fergus. It would be difficult for us to say who loves being out on the island the most, but Fergus might just win. It is a great place for dogs, who are allowed on the beach and generally appreciated by people wherever you go.
Why the Owner Chose New Shoreham, New Shoreham, RI, USA:
We never thought we would own an island home with as much character, yard, style or even bedrooms. We looked at many, many tiny cottages, or condos - and feel all our waiting paid off when we finally found our house on Pilot Hill. Good friends from high school, who live on the island year-round, helped us to do the renovations. We pulled down walls, ripped up floors, struggled with old electrical wiring, but it all came together and we couldn't be happier. Last year (summer 2012) was our first year renting and this year we have decided to do it ourselves. We hope you will enjoy special times in our special place.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Block Island has some unique old farmhouses which have similar details. This house is one of those. The upstairs has an island feel that reminds me of so many of my friends' homes when I was little. Sand on the floor, old windows at knee-height upstairs with low-ceilings. The backyard is long and flat with fantastic old trees -- great for climbing. We put on a nice big deck, with a wraparound bench for enjoying the backyard and distant view at all times of the day.
