Overview

About the property

Studio, 1 Bath, Sleeps 3

The Coat Shop is housed in a historic 1920s storefront near the waterfront in Old Town Eureka, California. The Coat Shop a 1200 square foot loft crafted from salvaged redwood and industrial elements, equally inspired by modern design and the history of the North Coast.

Any 30 day booking will be charged double the cleaning fee. If it is not automatically added in your booking, we will add the charge for you. We do this because we come in mid-stay and change your linens and do some light cleaning!

The main level of the Coat Shop features an open floor plan. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooks, including a vintage Wedgwood gas range, commercial sink and stainless countertops. The bathroom has a custom shower with two rain shower heads. The double-slipper claw foot tub is cozily placed in the main living area, so you can soak while listening to the stereo or watching a movie. It's big enough for two :)

The Coat Shop comfortably sleeps two in the California King bed. A third can sleep on the couch, and if you would like to bring more to sleep on the floor, let us know. We'll do our best to accommodate you.

Old Town Eureka is known as a fine arts mecca. You'll find galleries, museums, artist studios, live music, and theaters within a few blocks. There is also great shopping and dining. Eureka is a city, so with all of the great choices the city offers, you also have the traffic, noise (there are music venues in the area), and interesting people that come with it. Also, access to the loft is through the back in a large open alleyway. Please make sure you are comfortable with this environment before booking or feel free to ask us more about it.

Eureka is our home, and we love introducing guests to the waterfront and to the beauty of the North Coast.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The Coat Shop Loft was by far one of the coolest places we've ever stayed. The location is perfectly ideal: right in the middle of downtown Eureka and just a few blocks away from the water, close to bars & restaurants. The space itself really is incredible. We were beyond comfortable, the loft is well stocked with everything you'd need and is honestly kind of opulent, in a reclaimed-industrial (dare I even say sexy?) kind of way. The bed was lush and comfortable, the kitchen is huge, the bathtub and shower are both absurdly cool. I honestly wish I lived in this place! Would highly recommend.

Reviewer Comments:

The loft was large, clean, and well designed. Lots of light from the skylights during the day, which would make it hard to sleep in, but I didn't mind. Location was right across from old town Eureka and close to a lot of activities and dining. All of old town is within walking distance. Property managers gave good instructions for our stay. Parking is an issue, as mentioned in other reviews. An agreement to use the parking lot would be great. I didn't have issues, but I can see how others could. I didn't go on the roof terrace, as the ladder seemed to be loose at the top, but I didn't need it. Overall, the place was very comfortable and spacious. I would stay again.

Owner's Response: So glad to hear that you enjoyed the property overall. The rooftop is not advertised currently, and parking is easier after 5 PM. Our hope is that guests are out exploring and return later in the day. Glad to hear you'd stay again, as we personally love this property, and think it's something special! Looking forward to having you back again to Old Town Loft!

This loft-like space has a great open floor plan and nicely balanced industrial style. Great location close to old town, gas stove, washer, dryer, big prep and dining tables and a shelf full of books.

Owner's Response: Hi Michael, thanks so much for leaving a review of Coatshop, Eureka's Only Modern Loft! It really does have all amenities a person could want on vacation, including a huge claw foot tub for soaking in at the end of the day, after running around sight seeing on The North Coast. Walking distance to restaurants, or, a large, vintage stove with a full size refrigerator and dishwasher if one chooses to cook at home. Huge, King size bed is also a welcome at the end of a day exploring. The style of the Loft is indeed unique herer on the North Coast, and very industrial/chic. Washer/Dryer just complete the picture, how convenient at the end of a beach day to just toss your suit in and be done with it. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, please come back soon, and visit Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals to book your next trip to the beautiful Redwoods. Thanks again Michael!

Reviewer Comments:

I had no idea what to expect from the outside entrance, which was actually cleverly inconspicuous, and private. The interior was beautifully designed and obviously hard work and creative vision was successfully executed. Thepeacefulness was surprising given the downtown location. Within walking distance of old town, great eateries, antique shops and coffee spots. I will definitely stay here again. Perfect for one or two. Loved it.

Owner's Response: Thank you Angela, for taking time to leave a review of Coat Shop, Eureka's Only Modern Loft. The owners have spent a lot of time executing their vision for the property and we like to think they we're incredibly successful. There are no other properties on the North Coast that look like the Loft does. We love the mix of industrial with a chic vibe, making for a unique, but also, comfortable stay. It' walking distance to coffee shops and cute shops in Old Town is fantastic, yet you fell cocooned in privacy while at the property. We are over the moon that you love it as much as we do! We look forward to your return to the North Coast and staying with us at Coat Shop again! Book through Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals when the time comes to return, and we can't wait to have you back! Thank you again for taking time to leave your thoughts Angela!

Nice location, but some things you should know before you stay...

Reviewer Comments:

Conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, shopping and old town eureka. The loft is very clean, kitchen is stocked and closet is huge. Its decorated nicely in industrial rustic style. If you're looking for something luxurious this probably isnt the place for you because it is rustic. For instance there's raw plumbing in the bathroom shower. Took me a minute to figure that out, haha! I preferred the claw foot tub, but it is out in the open with no privacy so if you're with other travelers you may not be able to utilize the tub. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Eureka. Loved the beaches & redwood hikes. I recommend the sequoia zoo if you have little ones. With that being said there are some inconveniences to this loft. One being the parking situation. Theres no space dedicated to the loft and street parking is only 2 hrs. You can park in the lot outside after hours but the entrance to the loft is in a sketchy alley. Wouldnt walk out there alone at night. We didn't have any issues w/safety but we were concerned about our car being broken into. Loft gets hot and stuffy during the day. There's only 2 windows and not much airflow. Bring fans from home if you can. Rooftop access in under construction/enter @ own risk so we didnt fool with it. Kind of a bummer. But my biggest grievance would be the required cleaning upon checkout. Especially when there was a required base fee of $60. We had to wash and put away all dishes, empty all garbages to the dump in alley, strip bedding and wash it with all towels etc., Instructions said to make the place look like it did when you arrived or else you'd be charged an additional cleaning fee. Not sure why I was charged one in the first place for that amount of cleaning. The cleaning maid had less to do than we did. I wouldve done the rest to save the $60. Also, thought 10am checkout was a bit early for a Sunday. Hotels at least give you until 11am. If we come back to Eureka, we'll just stay in a hotel.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for staying and for taking the time to give us some feed back. We just ask for some basic cleaning, like your dishes and the like. We rarely charge folks unless we have alot of extra cleaning. We also like to note that the coat shop accommodated 2 people, hence why we have a romantic tub in an open area of the unit that is completely private to the outside world. We look forward to your return to the Redwood Coast.

Reviewer Comments:

The Old Town Eureka's Only Modern Loft was absolutely amazing. By the second night we felt like we lived there! It was extremely clean, very comfortable. The sky lights were my favorite part! We made dinner at the loft which was very easy with the amount of cooking utensils they had. The only complaint I had was the parking situation. Because we were advised not to park in the lot (you may be towed), we had to park in a 24-hour city lot across from Lost Coast. But it was really only a block or two away from the loft and felt safe. I would recommend this property to everyone! If you want a really unique stay, I absolutely recommend the Old Town Loft! And I'm totally stealing some design ideas for our future place :)

Owner's Response: Thank you Alison for taking the time to leave a review for The Coatshop, Old Town's Only Modern Loft! And thanks for the feedback on the parking lot to the rear of the building. The parking can be a bit tricky during business hours, but after 6, most places are fine overnight. The owners of this beautiful loft had an Mid-Century modern viewpoint when decorating, and we think it's quite original and inviting. We're so happy you enjoyed yourself while staying with us at Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals, a 100+ home rental company, and please come back soon and see us again!
